The Aeldari preview may have stolen the show for me but these guys still look great and are certainly making their way into future plans. I have two lots of the Krieg kill team and would love to expand the collection. Surprised to say I'm not super fused about the death riders but much more in love with the artillery. However I build an AM force in future it's definitely going to include a triptych of these beauties, each gun looks fantastic and it's hard to pick a favourite. The combat engineers and command squad will also be must buys.

I would, like others, have preferred the lord Marshal to have been a generic character but it's a great look model all the same.

Hopefully it's not too much trouble to build a force the mixes Krieg and Cadian units as I like quite a bit from each range. The question for me would be if I paint them in similar colours so they looks like one big unified force or keep the different so they looks like two separate groups working together.

I'm surprised we're not getting a Krieg upgrapde kit like the Cadians have, would be nice to have a Krieg tank commander.

Didn't the Cadian Upgrade Kit come out after the Big Range Refresh?

I could see it being released later on to fill a release gap or something.

It came out with the second wave, together with the Rough Riders and Castellan and others, about a month after the first, larger, release.

OK, thank you. I don't play but I try to make sure the armies I paint are legal in case I ever change my mind. I have a decent sized (old) Cadian force and I'm thinking of adding a Krieg company to it.

Same. I have a force made up of the old Cadian plastics, but I field them all as the generic “infantry squad” with heavy weapons.

Can't find Kill Team Octarius anywhere on GW's online store... I assume this is in preparation of them becoming the Krieg armies main troop kit?

All the kill teams went for the new edition and have been coming back in waves. They haven’t come back yet.

Ah okay. How likely is that Kill Team to become the Krieg's base infantry kit, though?

Very likely, considering the Veteran Guard Death Korps of Krieg Killteam Kit is the Kit that the Death Korps of Krieg unit is based on in 40k already.

It'll be back soon...ish.
Probably reboxed for main 40k tho, like the Starstriders and Inquisitorial Agents were

Gorgeous miniatures. But there is one question I still can't answer until we see the rules: were all these new units really needed for AM?

What distinctive feature will the mounted minis bring to the game where we already have a cav unit (unless it is segregated in strategies a la Serberys Rangers vs. Sulphurhounds)? Will they stay as previous FW rules?

Same for all flavours of artilleries, Command and Engineers: all VERY beautiful, but I am not too sure yet about their intrinsic usefulness...

The same could have generally been said about FOBs when compared to HWSes and the artillery vehicles we already had.

but by the same token, marines have a ton of units that all do more or less the same thing.

tactical squad, intercessors, heavy intercessors

terminators, aggressors, centurions, assault terminators.

etc.

I prefer these Krieg artillery units, the diorama each gun has just makes me really want to buy them just to paint them, the Cadian ones are just dull compared to how full of character the Krieg ones are. They really nailed this update imo, great stuff GW.

Wow, so I didn't even notice that the Krieg KT wasn't around.

My Octarius box, I'm ashamed to admit, is still on the sprue, but I'd always planned to get another box or two. Now I'm paranoid: if the base Krieg infantry load -out changes, that means I shouldn't build it until I see new rules. At the same time, it might be wise to pick up any Krieg boxes still on the shelf at local stores if I find any.

I might skip this box, because there are other guard units I'm going to want. It's purely narrative in nature- I know the models aren't going to win games, but I want an Arvus and two Valkyrie escorts. They are as much for Agents and dignitaries that arrive from orbit during the campaign as they are for the guard, and you can build custom missions around them.

I love the Commissar and the heavy weapon teams; I love Engineers, and I need more basic infantry- whether they turn out to be the KT or not. I need some Chimerae (again, as much for Agents as Guard), and just like my air detachment, I want another narrative detachment with a pair of Manticores and a Deathstrike.

As much as I like the horses, ALL of the above takes priority over horses. Plus buying individual units allows me to slip purchases between Guard and Eldar. I'll have to see if there are holiday bonuses this year; if so, I'll be in a better position to buy. Box discounts are hard to pass up when you know you're going to eventually want everything in the box anyway, even if you do have other modelling priorities.

In any case, this is a great release. I've always wanted Krieg, but I've never been willing to pay Forgeworld prices for resin. I see people's point of view when they express a preference for the original aesthetic, but while I see it, the difference isn't enough of a concern for me, especially when the new versions allow me to BOTH pay a smaller price AND have models made from a material that is so very much easier for me to work with.

I can't wait to build the unit I already have knowing there's more on the way.

This is straight up nonsense. They've been doing the mandatory one model with every Codex release for years now, not every army can get a hefty release with every Codex. Or are you going to tell me that Orks and Sisters aren't popular because their release this edition has been single models?

No you’re right about that. I guess what I was trying to emphasize was that imperial guard are so popular they can release alternative sculpts for the whole range and they know it will sell out.

The Krieg kill team does have a third sprue specifically for making different KT specialists. Not quite as expensive as the Cadians kit, but I could see it being repackaged as a Krieg upgrade sprue. Perhaps with an extra set on new components?

The Kill Team Krieg are 100% the normal Krieg infantry. The real question is if they will stay packaged as a Kill Team product with the KT upgrade sprue or if they get repackaged into a 40k box without the Kill Team sprue.

They are probably staying as a Kill Team product with the upgrade sprue for another year until they are no longer a classified team and then get repackaged without the sprue as a 40k box. I guess the upgrade sprue will then get discontinued unless it has some weapon upgrades that can be used in 40k?

Sorry, but this is a huge miss for me.  I was hoping for plastic versions of the Forgeworld Krieg stuff....what we have here is in my opinion poor design....telephone handsets for guys in full head helmets/gasmasks for goodness sake!   There are lots of fans of it, and Im sure it will sell by the bucket load.....but i cant help wonder how good could it have reallly been if they had used the existing forgeworld sculpts....pity.

I think these are better than their forgeworld counterparts honestly. More 40k crazy

I'm sure I dubbed Sabaton over the Krieg trailer's soundtrack in my head when I watched it.

I know some of the FW purists are not happy at some liberties taken, but I am excited by these new models, I've never been a guard guy but this is dragging me in that direction. The Eldar releases have to take priority for me, however.

I have about 6kish of FW krieg. Still love these new plastic kriegers and will be buying the box.

Perhaps thats why i prefer the FW ones, as their aesthetic is more grounded in pseudo WW1 / scifi.  Each to their own, but i had planned a big foray into Krieg, but thats cancelled now unfortunately.  But i hope those who do like them have fun with them.

For me the biggest down is the riders, there was something so much more characterful in the forlorn more static pose of the old ones that fit with the whole idiom, than the generic dynamic charge of the new ones, especially with the pose (and the way they highlighted) drawing attention to the ugly claw feet that the static poses mostly concealed.
