WarCom Article.

Some pretty neat and exciting stuff coming to Warhammer TV next year, including;

  • Painting Desk: Interviewing award-winning painters about their works and processes.
  • How We Roll: Interviews with the Warhammer Design Studio.
  • Deepstrike: Talk show covering the latest animations and video games.
  • Arena of Death: 1v1 me on Blood Gulch bozo
  • Questing Nights: Co-op games.
  • Scribes and Scriveners: Black Library discussion forum.
  • Scrap Demon Challenge: Kitbash contests with guest judges.
  • Da Mekboy'z Workshop: Dioramas team for Warhammer World and Battle Report tables x armies
  • Brainboyz
  • The Black Library Book Club
  • Open Play

So it only took them three years to finally move the stuff that used to be free on the Twitch channel behind the paywall. Brilliant.

Also, I seem to remember someone (gosh, can't remember who) taking me to task over my assertion that they dropped the Tithes episodes when they did as a crass effort to give people the impression that the wasteland had actually been crossed and they should have no reservations about re-upping their subs because new stuff like this would now be showing up on the regular.

Oh no, CLEARLY you are reading the situation all wrong, I was assured. We'll be seeing SO MUCH new animation from now on! You'll be sorry!

Hmm... it's been about four months. Maybe I'm blind.

Because a bunch of repurposed Warhammer Live leftovers ain't it, Chief.

the email also indicates the Vault is going to start being updated again, which would be nice:

though when actually checked it's not there (yet); latest addition(s) is still just one upload in past c. 14 months, hopefully that's gonna change:

Honestly, if they had just done this from the start, I bet Warhammer+ would have had a much more positive reception (for its content rather than for its discount coupons and miniatures).

If GW keeps adding this kind of content to their channel, and they do so consistently over the next year, I could see a lot more people coming around to watching.

@Oxydo @Lork @TheVoidDragon I am sorry to see that you respectfully disagree that it is good for people to get more fun content to enjoy. Hopefully you can find it in your hearts during the holidays to appreciate when nice things happen to people, even if you may not like those things yourselves!

This isn't a topic regarding the Warhammer Vault, nor is it a topic regarding the IP Policy Update (which didn't actually change anything at the time). Nor is it really a place for people to whinge about the absence of animations.

If you can't keep the thread on topic please don't toss anything in; lest the moderators decide to intervene.

I will continue to post my opinion on what this update means in the context of the service as a whole, if I have more to say about it later. For now I am good though.

(My comment is actually overall positive on this update BTW.)

Warhammer Vault is kind of a main selling point for Warhammer+ though. Don’t think we need to argue about its contents but it’s the highest value portion of the sub.

Eh, overall it's a step in the right direction I think (it depends on how frequent these new shows are) but the entire time I was watching the trailer a little voice kept saying "you can get that for free elsewhere"

For example, BL Book Club (which hopefully means they're going to pay more attention to BL) you can get from Arbitor Ian/Mira Manga (complete with her doing hour-long author interviews)

The kitbashing stuff is available from every hobbyist with a camera apparently, the same thing with painter interviews, especially from Cult of Paint when Golden Demon rolls around (although I wonder if that'll go away now)

The design studio interview sounds like it could be interesting, but if it's in the same vein as the WHC articles then maybe not

Etc.

I'm not trying to sound overly negative, like I said it's a good step, but at least for me, there's nothing here that I can't get elsewhere, and elsewhere it'll be more open (i.e. not full of marketing pushes, or "this is the most exciting thing ever" etc). If it turns out the interviews are really well done and insightful it might change my opinion, but I can't help but think that it'll be more of the stuff they put out for Black Library weekender

They shot themselves in both feet by trying to pass off that ridiculous IP Policy update as if it somehow trumped national laws and giving popular fan animators "offers they could not refuse."

If GW keeps adding this kind of content to their channel, and they do so consistently over the next year, I could see a lot more people coming around to watching.

What also keeps me away is that a lot of their content revolves sround their core games like 40k or AOS which I have zero interest in.

I am very pleased. At least they haven't forgotten about it and are at least bringing new content to the service. Maybe it will be rubbish content but at least the service is getting support and they are trying to breathe life into it. A shame there aren't any animations in this announcement but this was never an animation service. It literally say's so, it's "More Warhammer, More Often" so hobby stuff should be just a big a part. Besides we know there are some animations in the pipeline for next year anyway.

I've been subbed to W+ since day one and have found it to be very good and worth every penny.

I'm shocked that after all these years GW still hasn't produced an ongoing series for their universes, I get that animation is hard but anthology can only work for a bit and having a streaming service requires you to hook people in and you do that by creating an ongoing narrative that people can feel invested in otherwise you get your service to be anemic and just waiting to bleed viewers until it just loses money.

It just feels that GW doesn't know what to do with this thing when it should treat it like BL but for animated series, get small studios to develop a project that will become a mainstay instead of just flip flopping around hoping something sticks.

Maybe GW don't want a streaming service. Maybe they aren't tryig to make W+ a warhammer version of Netflix. Perhaps what they want is a more all round hobby channel. Something that provides more warhammer, more often which is more than just animations.

Don't want to come across as negative but most of this was free over on their Twitch channel, I am interested in the discussions of books etc but I hope they get some of the bigger names involved rather than staff.

I'd like to see more light entertainment style content so I think a lot of these are sounding quite good. What I'd really like to see is a Warhammer panel quiz in the style of Nevermind The Buzzcocks hosted by James Workshop or something similarly light hearted. I find WH+ content a little too serious and rigid where the community team has shown they are quite fun when they want to be. There's more to the hobby than lore and battle reports, I wish they'd lean in to the silly aspects a bit more sometimes.

My sense is someone at Games Workshop was excited about the prospect of creating a streaming service with their name and "+" on the end, just like so many other companies.

Then they found out that it is a very difficult market to break into, just like those other companies did, so GW pivoted to bring it more in line with what they can feasibly offer/keep up with.

100% this.

We should all just be happy we don't have something stupid like a Bitcoin alternate or unnecessary block chain usage.  We didn't dodge every stupid bullet from the last decade, but we did manage to dodge those obvious pyramid schemes.

Am not sure a full on comedy panel show would work but something like a Warhammer version of Mastermind or University Challenge could be a hit

Where are all the animations we were promised.  I was expecting 1 animation a week from Warhammer +.   Alas we were lucky to get 1 every 4 months.

I dont think I will be renewing because the exclusive model is not worth it, the 1st and 2nd were admittedly good (assassin/Chaos lord).

However I am not interested in the painting articles there are better free ones on YouTube, also not interested in the black library stuff as trying to read it on the phone is a pain.

I'm sorry, but this figure, specifically, is a wholly unrealistic expectation. Do you want quality or do you want quantity?
