I think they may finally be good now!

Using Gladius, put yourself in Assault Doctrine, then Deep Strike Lieutenant + Reivers 9" away from a target, shoot, move D6" closer (thanks to Phobos Lieutenant), them charge (average roll on D6 move is 3", meaning you have a 6" charge to make, VERY doable), force Battleshock at -1 on the enemy, then activate Honour the Chapter for Lance and -1AP.

This gives you 25 × S4 AP-2 Dmg attacks, all with +1 to Wound and Lethal Hits... this ought to be more than enough to kill all (or most) of a skirmish unit holding an Objective... whoever is left will have their OC reduced by -1 per model, so almost guaranteed that the Reivers will control the Objective.

Reivers also look good with a Reiver Lt, place 5-man squads inside Impulsors.  Scout move 6" before the game.  Reivers now have a 6" -1 OC zone, and can jump out of a 12" move + d6 Advance and nullify OC.

Honestly I was running this unit before the changes, so I'm obviously going to keep doing it. Even without CP for Honour the Chapter it's a surprisingly effective objective play that is suddenly relevant into alot more targets with the AP-1, and most especially the -1 OC. This is also now one of the few remaining ways of getting units within 6" of enemy when deep-striking at all! No means guaranteed of course, but getting effectively a 3d6" charge from 9" for no CP is pretty slick.

45 Lethal attacks can take down plenty, and at AP-1 it should start to pile up! As the situation dictates this may not even be a bad Oath target if it means you can properly smash something more valuable or push a flank. With 'just' the re-roll of Oath and assuming you use pistols before charge that's an average of ~17 wounds dealt... before you roll ~26 to-wound dice with the new flat +1 in both phases... So yea... a pretty casual average 30 AP-1 wounds on anything up to T9 will tend to leave a mark, and it's still ~25 saves for anything T10+. Obviously this entails an entire turn of Oath, but as a third turn precision strike it might be right on time! Essentially if they ain't got a 2+ save or a really good overwatch, enemies will have a spot of bother taking that many Lethal grapnel stomps from the rooftops methinks.

After playing SM2 I was expecting the unit to languish another year or more before a Legends melta version or something came out, but I'm really glad to see them actually feel much better today as a budget precision bully unit.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.
