The Grotmas advent detachment is up for Heretic Astartes and it is revisiting of the Creations of Bile army list.  Here's the link:

It seems quite good for an largely infantry, largely non-mortal force.  Not something I'm particularly interested in, but I'm glad it now exists.  As well, while it strongly incentivizes fielding Bile, it doesn't require that one does so, which is nice.

Yes, it looks fun. I'll try it from time to time, especially since I tend to run infantry-heavy melee armies.

And back in 9th I used to run Creations of Bile sometimes. I used the Warpborn's Talos Slaughtercall as a counts-as Fabius Bile with his magnetized chirchugeon backpack.

Warpborn, "Death to the Dark Mechanicum"

it could make for some very nice alternatives. the thought s of using it instead for iron warriors as infantry heavy, havocs and termys hitting t6, getting shots boosted up to 2s to hit, the extra stats on any of our blender units. ... and that you can choose 1 or risk the roll of two/ throw bile in for rerolls is a nice wee tree of chance... and biles unit also getting  his own boon (+1str & T) and then picking another on top via the strat... (shame the strat is 2cp, even 1 cp for randomised would have been nice... ) even prime test subject on a lord... give him hammer...d3 rerolls hits, onece a game boost that to 6 attacks  str9 rerolling hits  ap3 d4 devistating wounds, wit then the detachment  further boosting his stats (attk str ws...) possible 24 damage.. smash captain?

i do mean though i likely will stik with fellhammer purely for the boon equally on tanks etc.  but its nice to know infantry chaos has its fun spot...

As an Emperor's Children / Creations of Bile player I was chuffed to see this new detachment (starting to feel spoilt by GW this Christmas which is a very rare place to be!)

Don't know if it's useful (or the right place to post it - let me know if not) but did a bit of a review of the detachment for the Oath of Moment blog which you can see here.

I think like others, this looks like a decent detachment but probably not knocking Renegade Raiders or Veterans of the Long War off the top spots for our detachment choices. But it definitely does it's job of feeling on theme and giving us another decent option.

My read of the rules since it doesn't describe rolling for either individual models or units but instead only describes rolling once, is that you roll once and then that applies to all relevant models in your army.  Definitely could be more clearly worded, though.

Thanks for sharing your review, @Elazar The Glorified - its really good.  An interesting thought (to me, anyway), is that a Master of Executions really benefits from a +1 S increase and it bumps his axe to that critical "wounds 4 on 2s" strength threshold and that the benefit of the precision giving wargear really depends on how much of that you have available - with Lucius and an MoE that's maybe not so beneficial, but if you only have a Bile and a Lord that might be huge.

Fellhammer bonus dosent work in cc nor against relative lower strength weapons. So whilst some times true id hazard a guess that over all statistically +1t is better. Then again its army build as fellhammer is better for tanks...

That depends on what's considered a relevant low strength weapon though. Agreed though that working in CC is 100% a positive, which is why I think that part is about even.

I mean... unless you just take the gamble and roll?

Bile is definitely 'melee forward' to my way of thinking and if built correctly the T5 isn't mandatory, but can be absolutely crushing when you do roll it alongside something else. I'd definitely still want some shooty bois (1-2 Havocs and 1-2 Oblits?) in case you proc the +1BS, but I'll be making the rolls for sheer lulz when I play this.

Also Fellhammer would be massively more likely to value hull spam since basically wounding vehicles on 4+ for the whole game is sheer treadhead value.

So ranged+vehicles or melee+infantry shows these are kinda opposites even though they appear somewhat similar at first... I think as a pair they do a good job of demonstrating how 'the list makes the detachment' in alot of ways... i.e. 'build the list you want to play and then choose the detachment'. In CSM where there are alot of good choices, this is doubly true, since everything is trying to match the strong standard set by Pactbound which remains pretty stellar even though most players have moved on.

Anyway - I'm excited to play this at some point... I played Soulpack last with CSM so it'll be nice to break out an infantry list and see how that goes.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.
