Upcoming BL Stuff 2025

If it is a Scouring start, I definitely see Wraight or French setting the stage. Wraight's set multiple books on Terra, particularly political books, so I absolutely see him getting the nod to write a 'setting the scene' novel as the Primarchs and the Council of Terra come to terms with the Emperor's injury, Malcador's death and the now-competing demands of 'get the Traitors' and 'get the Throneworld back on its feet'. French doing the same thing for the Traitors would be a great pick too, since he effectively did the same thing in Slaves to Darkness already.

Well, I'll be damned! They will actually show off new (possibly) books!

Well

Well

Well

You all laughed at me for having hope that books=novels

Just tell valrak to hand over the foil

(Also please give me a part of a book where the Ultramarines show up to Terra and just have to sit there and try to figure out what's going on. Please)

If the embargoed novels are the start of a Scouring series I’m  extremely pleased with Wraight and French taking the lead on it.  With the old guard (Abnett, McNeill, ADB) mostly moving on they are the most experienced and talented of the current roster of writers (IMHO).  Let them set up the setting with a few books each before they let some of the newer talent loose on it.

As for the upcoming preview adding BL, I feel it is too far out for these to be announced, especially if it is Scouring related.  GW would want to announce that by its lonesome so that nothing else steals attention from it.  More likely it will be books that line up with whatever factions get new stuff announced… or the next tie-in models from previous book releases maybe.

Strong agree. Particularly Wraight as he's shown that he can go into a setting that hasn't been explored yet (Valdor) and give it an interesting spin without making it either all bolter time, or feel super out of place. Especially in the politic heavy aftermath of the Heresy, I think that touch is needed

But also at the same time, I really want Rath to contribute in some way to the series when it happens. Give me a large Fall of Cadia sized novel about the Dark Angels going after traitor homeworlds, the writing/conflict over the Codex, Iron Cage or something like that. He's also one that excels at taking a relatively small amount of existing information and being able to spin it out into a massive thing while it still feeling coherent

Robert Rath could write a novel about them updating the phonebooks after the heresy and I'd be first in line to buy it.

Its not too early actually , as the previews usually cover a period of about 3 months, in which case a reveal for an October release like Wraight's, makes sense.

Aside from that, for me personally this very clearly looks like the Scouring series , especially after that second book going under embargo as well. And Wraight was always somebody who I expected to be writing one of the opening novels of that  ever since Valrak first mentioned he heard it was coming.

One one hand, Wraight and French are great picks to kick things off if this is indeed The Scouring. On the other hand, I'm surprised it isn't starting with Abnett, not merely because it's "his thing" but because he said explicitly that he'd love to write a lot about Terra right after the Emperor's enthronement and the political turmoil that follows.

Maybe he's just got too much on the go.

Also that Tempestus Scions book is still listed everywhere for next month but still doesn't have a cover or title.

I'm not sure I'd consider ADB old guard. Maybe I'm just old.

As one the younger (if not the youngest) fraters that frequent this subforum, ADB is definitely considered to be part of the Old Guard for whatever that's worth

ADB has written many times that hes the slowest author and I think in general GW/BL is kinda in a narrative middle ground where they just ended the Siege of Terra and likely looking to expand on stuff there as they want to tie everything together. I'd imagine we will see BL 3 or Spears 2 soon enough or possibly a Scouring series where hes doing NL or Sons of Horus stuff, possibly even WE or WB, hes left his mark on a lot of Chaos Legions

If it does happen that way it also sets them up pretty nicely for the traditional Black Library reveal show in December

Give folks the first one and then give them a tease of the next few like they did with Dawn of Fire leading into the New Year

I’d be first n line for more ADB whatever he wanted to do, but I’d be surprised if he turned out anything for the projected Scouring setting.  Let him wrap up his current series before we start chaining him to anything else.

@Roomsky: I’m not surprised Dan Abnett isn’t leading the Scouring.  He will take awhile to (creatively) recover from the HH (IMHO) but I expect he will eventually add a novel or short stories down the track.

So actually I didn't expect to get news that quickly but turns out I did, I guess praying to the Dark Gods has some benefits, Gloria Aeterna as some grey/red lunatics would say.

The first thing is that Amazon.fr, -for a brief amount of time- had a 2nd book with the exact same format (12.9 cm x 19.8 cm) under embargo. This time from John French. Curiously you couldn't find it again unless you had previously added it to your Amazon wishlist.
This time around for december 3rd. Also labelled as "Horus Heresy".

Regarding the Horus Heresy label/collection it is indeed "officially" the correct label - I went through most of the french library shops, directly asked them and they confirmed it wasn't a mistake.

To summarize:

  • We have two books under embargo
  • One by Wraight, one by French
  • Both are 12.9 x 19.8 cm so it rules out any Horus Heresy Primarchs (or Horus Heresy Characters) hardbacks which are 13.5 x 20.5 cm.
  • One is releasing on October 29th, the second one on December 3rd.
  • They both weight 505g yet they don't have the same amount of pages: 336 for Wraight's and 400 for French's.
  • They both are labelled "Horus Heresy" - the more I think about it the more I have this nagging feeling that we might get The Horus Heresy: The Great Scouring
  • Both Amazon.fr and Fnac.com list them for 15 euros (premium hardbacks are usually 25 bucks).

Could they not be another novella / short story collection? There's "The Shattered and the Soulless" coming which contains 2 of Graham Mcneils stories at 432 pages.

The weight really seems like it's most likely a placeholder if 2 books with that much of a page difference at listed as the same weight.

We are also getting a Vaults of Terra Omnibus in January.

Honestly out of almost all of the Omnibus (bi?) they've done lately this one is probably the most deserving considering how back to back they are in the story

I forgot to edit my previous message but turns out the Fnac/Amazon listing for Wraight upcoming book's weight was wrong potentially.

Per the other french library shops listing, French's upcoming book is 505g and 400 pages while Wraight's is 336 pages for ~400g.  So ultimately it does makes sense.

As for an Horus Heresy themed "collection" from both of these authors I simply can't wrap my head around it.
Let's say it'd be a "legion-specific omnibus": Wraight's full White Scar Arc is definitely more than 336 pages. And French's Imperial Fists arc is more than 400 pages too.

The distributers clearly heard my complaint. It's called Final Deployment and now has a cover.

Amazon.ca's other Updates:

Carnage Unending - Dan Abnett - April

The Green Tide - Ork book omnibus - March

"Steve Lyons'" Death and Duty has a description now, it appears he's just the first listed author for a Guard anthology.

Thought a book about Tempstus scions was a bit of a different choice, some  pretty good cover art, and the book description sounded interesting with it seeming like it might do something a bit more unique and have Imperium VS Imperium without the usual enemies having caused it....then I saw...

Quote

"facing a foe from the darkest days of the Imperium,"

...It's going to be "Chaos Was behind it!" yet again, isn't it?
