The Traitor Legions flee Terra in disarray, hounded by the remaining Loyalists, both sides hungry for every scrap of vengeance they can extract. This is a time of change; humanity has witnessed the dream of the Emperor’s Great Crusade unravel, and from their perspective, it’s all the fault of the Legions.

The Scouring is an epic saga following three key perspectives, as it examines the fate of the survivors of the Horus Heresy: the Loyalists, the Traitors, and the rest of humanity. What happened to the Emperor, what’s next for the Imperium and can control be wrested back from the Primarchs?

Sounds interesting. I only one hope it is not going to be too much space marine focused because the next paragraph mentions 3 new characters and its all astartes.

Interesting that Raldoran is there with the primarchs. He's the most senior blood Angel now that Sanguinius is dead. The Blood Angels should be dealing with a lot in book one in a way other chapters aren't. Will we see Sanguinius being recovered and his blood being used to make flawed gene seed?

Honestly the human part interest me most. Seeing  politics of the Imperium as we know it being created is a lot more interesting to me than Marine fight no 275.

I must not hype. Hype is the mind killer. Hype is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my hype. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the hype has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

With that said...

This is exactly 100% what I wanted out of the Scouring. Let's get away from all this nonsense. No book limits, no hard boundaries, let's just go like the early Heresy did. Bring in everyone. Get the new authors up there. Try things. Push limits. Write in the grey areas. Yes, we can play the hits - Iron Cage, Caliban, whatever - but let's have the 'new guys', too. This is a new era and everyone has to find their feet. There are very few restrictions on what the Scouring can cover and I want to see it get weird again. I want to see the xenos who crept in while the Imperium was killing itself. I want to see the Dark Compliance unravel. I want ARIK TARANIS.

I recognise my hype and cannot be sure to correct it.

Let’s hope we can get back to the glory days when we would get 4, 5+ Heresy novels in a year.  Great to see this finally confirmed and what a great choice for author of book 1.  The Heresy helped solidify Wraight’s reputation and what an honour it must be for him to kick things off.

We’ve barely gotten 5 40k novels this year. They need to pump the numbers up significantly all around. It’s weird because all the authors who are active on social media say they’re still writing for BL, there hasn’t been a mass exodus or anything, but the number of releases has slowed to a trickle.

I wonder who the white scar is. I’d say there’s 50% chance it’s a new character and a 50% chance it’s Shiban because the illustrator’s conveniently forgotten (or never been told) how he’s supposed to look.

My guess is Sojuk.

I wonder how long is this series going to be. It's still labeled as Horus Heresy so...  I hope is not as short as Siege of Terra, with too many plot holes and characters forsaken (I'm looking at you Sevatar) and not as long as the original series with too much filler novels (I'm looking at you Pythos).

What arcs are you hoping are getting done among the ones that were left abandoned during the Siege and before?

I wouldn’t say this plot line was ‘abandoned’, but I would really like to see what is going on with the Grey Knights on Titan.  How will the Terminus Decree device be sequestered there?  Who is in charge of organising now with Malacador gone?  When will Titan reappear from the warp?  What will the Primarchs say about it?

And we clearly need a deep dive into the reconquest of Mars.  I was hoping the short by Gav Thorpe in EoR would touch on it but … nope.

Thunder Warriors when?

Maybe controversial, but I don't want many of the plotlines to be picked up.

I don't mean in the same vein as what @Ubiquitous1984 said, because I've been on here before saying I want that same plotline explored. Not because it's a continuation of characters we have seen, more that it's dealing with a subject that is going through a transformation. Just like the rest of the Imperium should be going through a large transformation. How do the characters react, how do things change then versus 10k later, etc.

Same thing as I really want to see how the Ultramarines handle things now. The easy answer, and the one I fear most, is that Guilliman is written to just come in and say "I'm right, you're wrong, I have more marines now so we do it my way." That would not only be selling the setting short, but given what we saw during Imperium Secundus and how Guilliman viewed his role there, it wouldn't make any sense and would be selling him short as well. I trust Wraight to write politics well, but I worry when other authors get a hold of it (for example, if/when we get to the Codex given that it was supposed to be several years after the Siege), I worry that its going to boil down to Guilliman being the antagonist versus good guy Dorn, rather than giving both sides their merits

I also want a Dark Angels world tour book that covers them going to the traitor home planets before returning to Caliban

Show me Raldoron and Amit potentially coming to blows over splitting the legion before they return to Baal and the first thing they see are giant Sanguinius statues and having to deal with that/how do they adapt the chapter to deal with the Black Rage/formation of the Death Company, etc.

Talk to me about the Raven Guard and how they (or Corax specifically) deal with the fact that not only was their legion decimated, they also lost the genetic stuff to the Alpha Legion AND they didn't participate in the Siege/make enough of a difference to help at all

Etc.

I just don't want this to turn into "oh well lets fix everything we forgot to fix in the mainline series." I realize this continues the Heresy in terms of time and some characters, but I strongly think it needs to leave a lot of those plotlines alone that were left and write new stories. Not be an oopsie button

*edit to be more clear. I'm ok with some of the same characters to be the focus, I just don't want there to be "oh remember that one random character that we didn't finish before the Siege? Well here's his story that doesn't impact things all that much"

An entire novel about Arkan Land trying to fix stuff or do his work in his lab but he has to look after Malcadors dog who gets up to all sorts of mischief and eventually Land learns to love again.

Then Erebus kills the dog spawning a demon named Seamus who makes all sort of sailing and out dated naval puns.

Described as a multi book, multi author megaseries. Its going to last years.

3 themes= what happens to marines, what happens to chaos marines (gods with draw some of their power), what happens to humanity.

The scouring can be treated as a series in its own right, so you dont have to read the heresy books.

So they are doing this as a “sequential” series not a setting! Shame! Could have been a sandbox and let authors cover events that interested them.

There is a roman numeral “I” on the spine and this looks similar in design to Siege of Terra.
