Ubiquitous1984
Interesting. Siege of Vraks novel, Fall of Cadia novel and now DSM novel, all within a year or so of each other. Clearly a strategic decision from on high to deal with these major set-pieces with standalone novels. I wonder what novels we can next expect along the same line? This one is out 6 months after the game launches. I feel like there should be a statute of limitations somewhere for having something be a launch tie-in novel Wouldn’t be surprised that it’s late due to John French’s involvement in Dawn of War 4. That or printing issues. Either way I’m looking forward to this. I’m hoping for something along the lines of the Fall of Cadia novel. Felix Antipodes
Great news, as I couldn’t think of a better author to write this than French, due to his input into the black books. I’m wondering if this will mean there will be future tie-ins to all the Journal Tactica releases rather than being a tie-in to the new edition of HH? The only downside from my point of view is that this (and Wraight’s Scouring novel) takes them away from finishing their own current series. wecanhaveallthree
Oh yeah, just what we need - another look at the Dropsite Massacre (it's got Maloghurst, though, so I can't complain). I always thought the fragmented details being delivered by unreliable characters with personal biases and spins on the whole affair, the patchwork and confused nature of it as a narrative captured what the DSM was quite effectively. It was a slaughter, it was an unleashing - the Traitors had just purged their own ranks at V, and their first 'battle' had gone miserably wrong. The DSM is doubling down: it is the effective refutation of any insight, any introspection. It is an embrace of madness by the Traitors, and so I liked that nobody really had a handle on anything going on there. But I guess we need to go back so we can spend half a book with some hitherto-unknown characters as they wink at the reader. Maybe if we're really lucky, Samus will show up! Oooh, and Erebus! Love those guys. I don't want to go back to the Heresy. You can't make me, even if you dangle French's Maloghurst, because I know it's gonna be just like Aximand's appearance in Slaves - FIVE LINES IN THE WHOLE BOOK. System Sound
Cool, we got a DSM novel, now can we get a proper book about Titandeath? And not a rushed job that we got from Hayley, since BL/GW didnt even want to cover it for some reason... darkhorse0607
Since we are wishlisting now I demand no less than 5 more books about Calth Not the Shadow Crusade, just Calth. If there isn't a specific chapter for farming procedures then I don't want it Urauloth 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384814-upcoming-bl-stuff-2025/page/33/#findComment-6129193 Share on other sites
Urauloth
While I'd love to see a ton more books about the Heresy and an embrace of setting over linear plot (which should be possible without frustrating people now that we've finished the Siege of Terra, right? If we had a new Pythos now it wouldn't face the complaint that it was a roadblock to advancing the story of the primarchs) I have to add the caveat that I don't want to see any more inclusions that exist purely to set up stuff in the Era Indomitus. I don't mind continuity between the millennia, but too many links diminish the sense of aeons having passed between them. Anyway, very optimistic about this new novel. French has done some excellent work, and hopefully this will be up there with it. darkhorse0607, Felix Antipodes and Roomsky 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384814-upcoming-bl-stuff-2025/page/33/#findComment-6129233 Share on other sites
cheywood Posted yesterday at 11:24 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:24 AM Still no sign of the Final Deployment ebook on any platform. Bummer, was looking forward to checking that out. Hopefully the paperback still comes out next week. I wonder what happened. Felix Antipodes Posted yesterday at 11:50 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:50 AM I can sort of excuse them having to hold up an audiobook, but I fail to see why they would need to hold up an ebook. The physical version is harder to produce and that is on its way (to me anyway) according to GW. I wonder what the real reason for the hold up is? cheywood 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384814-upcoming-bl-stuff-2025/page/33/#findComment-6129336 Share on other sites
cheywood Posted yesterday at 01:36 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:36 PM Oddly enough the only place you can find evidence of Final Deployment existing is a digital library app called overdrive, which has a sample here. It says the book’s out on the 30th so maybe it’s just delayed a week? Either way it obviously exists and is ready to be published. My assessment after reading the sample: pretty good. The prose honestly isn’t the best or the worst, there’s a lot of reused words (colors other than ‘ochre’ do in fact exist) and instances where it feels like a thesaurus was used, but there’s also good descriptive language and engaging dialogue. The characters seem lively and had decent interplay. It felt appropriately detailed and crunchy, you can tell Wilt has military experience. Looks like it’s going to be a relatively brutal novel as well. I think it’s exactly the sort of slightly exaggerated, American military fiction inspired piece the Scions deserve.
