Upcoming BL Stuff 2025

Interesting.  Siege of Vraks novel, Fall of Cadia novel and now DSM novel, all within a year or so of each other.  Clearly a strategic decision from on high to deal with these major set-pieces with standalone novels.  I wonder what novels we can next expect along the same line?

Which is interesting in itself, normally their tie-ins are out within a month or so. This one is out 6 months after the game launches. I feel like there should be a statute of limitations somewhere for having something be a launch tie-in novel

Wouldn’t be surprised that it’s late due to John French’s involvement in Dawn of War 4. That or printing issues.

Either way I’m looking forward to this. I’m hoping for something along the lines of the Fall of Cadia novel.

Great news, as I couldn’t think of a better author to write this than French, due to his input into the black books.  I’m wondering if this will mean there will be future tie-ins to all the Journal Tactica releases rather than being a tie-in to the new edition of HH?

The only downside from my point of view is that this (and Wraight’s Scouring novel) takes them away from finishing their own current series.

Oh yeah, just what we need - another look at the Dropsite Massacre (it's got Maloghurst, though, so I can't complain).

I always thought the fragmented details being delivered by unreliable characters with personal biases and spins on the whole affair, the patchwork and confused nature of it as a narrative captured what the DSM was quite effectively. It was a slaughter, it was an unleashing - the Traitors had just purged their own ranks at V, and their first 'battle' had gone miserably wrong. The DSM is doubling down: it is the effective refutation of any insight, any introspection. It is an embrace of madness by the Traitors, and so I liked that nobody really had a handle on anything going on there. But I guess we need to go back so we can spend half a book with some hitherto-unknown characters as they wink at the reader. Maybe if we're really lucky, Samus will show up! Oooh, and Erebus! Love those guys.

I don't want to go back to the Heresy. You can't make me, even if you dangle French's Maloghurst, because I know it's gonna be just like Aximand's appearance in Slaves - FIVE LINES IN THE WHOLE BOOK.

While I'd love to see a ton more books about the Heresy and an embrace of setting over linear plot (which should be possible without frustrating people now that we've finished the Siege of Terra, right? If we had a new Pythos now it wouldn't face the complaint that it was a roadblock to advancing the story of the primarchs) I have to add the caveat that I don't want to see any more inclusions that exist purely to set up stuff in the Era Indomitus. I don't mind continuity between the millennia, but too many links diminish the sense of aeons having passed between them.

Anyway, very optimistic about this new novel. French has done some excellent work, and hopefully this will be up there with it.

I can sort of excuse them having to hold up an audiobook, but I fail to see why they would need to hold up an ebook.  The physical version is harder to produce and that is on its way (to me anyway) according to GW.  I wonder what the real reason for the hold up is?

Oddly enough the only place you can find evidence of Final Deployment existing is a digital library app called overdrive, which has a sample here. It says the book’s out on the 30th so maybe it’s just delayed a week? Either way it obviously exists and is ready to be published.

My assessment after reading the sample: pretty good. The prose honestly isn’t the best or the worst, there’s a lot of reused words (colors other than ‘ochre’ do in fact exist) and instances where it feels like a thesaurus was used, but there’s also good descriptive language and engaging dialogue. The characters seem lively and had decent interplay. It felt appropriately detailed and crunchy, you can tell Wilt has military experience. Looks like it’s going to be a relatively brutal novel as well. I think it’s exactly the sort of slightly exaggerated, American military fiction inspired piece the Scions deserve.

What happened to the Corsair Voidscarred novel they announced a while back?

It’s on the warehouse shelf next to the Horus Primarch novel :whistling: …

It seems like there have been more books announced as “coming soon” than we have seen released in the last 6-12 months.  It could get expensive between now and Christmas if the flood gates finally open.

I honestly think late BL releases are the new status quo as the front half of the year has been stacked with models for the past two years. Another huzzah for the three-year churn schedule!

By my count there are 8 announced books left to release this year, if you include the standard edition of Abraxia. So hopefully 2 per month until the end of the year.

I feel like at the rate we are going we wont see BL 3 until 2027. Id imagine since we have the scouring series they likely have to get Abbadon from point A to point B in that one so they can have thier hook for BL 3 that shows how smart they are like everything is planned out. Like oh what is Drachnyen well its actually more than just the End of Empires but you have to wait and see.

I'll save them the time so we can speed this up

Abbadon's black crusades have been part of an operation so secret that it's never been revealed until now. It's ultimate goal? Conquer Armageddon during the 67th war for Armageddon. Why Armageddon and not Terra? Stay tuned for Black Legion 4, due out in 2047

Also Drachnyen actually has the genetic code to create Secundus Chaos Space Marines, which are better than normal Chaos Space Marines, but have an additional organ (the Abbadonian furnace) to keep them alive longer and another to make them more Chaos, instead of less chaos. This is all facilitated by a new character, Smelarius Smawl.

You're welcome Black Library

Right now, I'm only interested in the upcoming Corsair book. Fingers crossed for good Eldar

I'm curious, but not hyped, about the new Night Lords novel. Following ADB's original triology is gonna be a tall order. I read it a while back, and it is some of the best stuff he's written

What drives me insane with GW, is not their obsession with the same 4 planets, or their decision to start a new tyranic war and then do nothing with it. Or their utter refusal to kill anyone off while constantly hypping up how dangeroys 40k is and how even for the best of them death in combat is all they can hope for.

Its that you have things like the first and second war for Armagedon, that are just totally ignored. No novels, no sourcebooks, nothing. Your telling me Having Dante, Calgar and Tushan sharing screen time is a no go? Having a duology where book one can be a Ork win, with their overwhelming half the planet, having Manstein do his doomed march, Yarrick get set up to become a legend, followed by your standard marine bolter book doesnt have the juice?   And even the first war, all we ever got is the Emperors gift, but its not armagedon book, its a Grey Knight book take passes by armagedon.

But think how fun the chapter where Calgar and Tushan meet what for them is the old man legend of Dante, how fun it would be for us as readers to experience that kind of meeting from the perspective of figures who we usually see be THE LEGEND in their own stories.  Have Tushan and Calgar share some of the :cuss: things they have heard Dante has done, have both of them know and acknowledge its probably propaganda but have that sliver of 'but is it tho?'.  Have your Space Marine jumping out of Thunderhawck 'the codex astartes does NOT support this action' only its a 700 year vampire about to throw his entire chapter in the middle of the ors waaaagha like his roleplaying great crusade spear tip deployments scenes.

Instead its....somehow Angron has re re returned to Armagedon....and this time, THIS time there is surely no stopping him, for realsies.  Let Armagedon end and move on, AND have your cake and pump out armagedon stuff for the next 10 years, there is plenty there.

I DREAM of a Fehervari armagedon jungle Relictors horror book.

I have said for a long time that BL works best when they stay away from the crazy mess the design team has made of the current setting and focuses on the greatest hits of the past like the first & second wars for Armageddon, etc.  In (my) perfect world this would be a mixture of novels and shorts expanding on an Imperial Armour type sourcebook.

One can but dream…

I wasn't sure where else to put it and it's more "not upcoming" info but no need to create a new thread.

David Guymer was asked about Iron Hands trilogy and kinda confirmed it's not going to happen

QuestionHello David, I imagine that this is not really a functioning channel of communication for you these days, but hope and folly both spring eternal, so here goes. Having recently finished your two-book Iron Hands trilogy, and knowing as well that the storyline was more or less resolved in codices, is it safe to assume that the likelihood of a third book to conclude the series is slim at best?

AnswerThis is a perfectly valid channel, but my engagement peaks and troughs depending on how busy I am at any given time. Be patient, and I'll get back to you eventually.

Unfortunately, however, yes. Though clearly planned from the outset to be a trilogy, the odds of a third book in that series are now decidedly slim.

Back at the start, I think I'd just finished Slayer for the Gotrek & Felix series and was essentially asked: if you could write anything now, what would it be. And I chose Iron Hands because A) I've always had a fascination with the least explored bits of any universe, and B) There wasn't a huge body of pre-existing work on them so I could make them my own without having to stay loyal to dozens of previous authors.

The flip side, unfortunately, is that maybe fewer people are interested in reading books about the Iron Hands than they are about Blood Angles or Space Wolves, and so it proved in this case.

I loved writing them however, and think they were some of the most creative works I've written for Black Library. They are certainly the most talked about! I've always harboured the hope of one day writing a "soft threequel", such as a post-Rift Kardan Stronos story to give a proper ending to some of those characters

GW/BL not doing anything to establish the Iron Hands as an interesting, engaging faction -> "oh no, our first two novels about them aren't selling as gangbusters as Ultramarines do with their dozens! let's axe the third book and destroy what engagement we were generating and blanket the faction in negativity for the next 10 years!"

I just... Urgh. Same thing with Phoenix Lords, Ynnari, and so forth.

Also, since Yarrick and Armageddon were namedropped up there: I think Yarrick's part of Armageddon 3 was planned. Having read all of David Annandale's Yarrick books from back in the day, it's pretty clear that he was setting things up for the Big One. Pyres of Armageddon dealt with the 2nd War, how he got the Power Klaw and so on, while Imperial Creed was a foundation for the character's legend in general. The first non-short was the Chains of Golgotha novella, which was clearly aiming at the rematch between Yarrick and Ghazghkull in a future novel.

But then there never was a follow-up to Pyres of Armageddon, and all that setup discarded. You had another duology building towards it, and they just.... axed that trilogy/series, too. Thanks to plenty of short stories, they were still able to fill an omnibus with what they had, but...

Come on, I even did my part and bought those books in hardback, all of 'em, despite their nutty premiums even back in the day. Throw me a bone.

Shame,  on the one hand he is right, i did not buy the books not because of the author or lack of funds, just could not care about the Iron Hands (and Kyme Salamander trilogy taught me the folly of blindly getting BL marine books).  I generally heard good things of the books, and eventualy borewed them from a mate. But i have no desire to put Iron Hand books on my shelf.

On the other i could say the same of the Raven Guard, Ultras, Dark Angels, Space Wolfs, Imperial Fists, will NEVER buy a bl salamander book again. So its not a Iron Hand problem.

I am very curious if the sales were bad bad, or just not 2x reprints and a special edition good.
