My understanding is that GW instigated a (sort of) PG/YA mandate for BL content assuming readership would mostly be youngish and they didn’t want complaints from outraged parents by going too deeply into the more adult aspects of the gods.

This content standard doesn’t seem to be as strict nowadays but I can’t see GW putting out a Slaaneshi edition of Seven Shades of Grey anytime soon.

Tzeentchian Charlie and the Chocolate factory or I riot

Guys, what do you all think about GW missing the opportunity to show us Tzeentch followers manipulating politicians and civilians to cause political destabilization using a wave of conspiratorial manipulations of individuals? After all Tzeentch is the Chaos God of misrule. I think what GW did is they wrote Thousand Sons books (specifically the Ahriman books and other CSM books with Tzeentch worshippers) with a focus on purely sorcery and physical mutations (bodily changes). They did not show how Tzeentch followers manipulate commoners, aristocrats, politicians, and rulers with connections to cause mayhem and governmental instability. Tzeentch can be used to show plots and manipulative people using subtle techniques to cause an Imperial government to breakdown into misrule, internecine conflicts, and internal squabbling. Instead of showing human characters being influenced and coaxed by Tzeentchian agents to work against not the Imperium as a whole but a regional or localized planet or sector as a result of a Tzeentch cult activity, GW used the Thousand Sons to solely focus on Psychic abilities, Sorcery, and mutation. GW thereby eschewed showing the human side of Tzeentch's influence and in place of that chose to focus on only the magical aspects of Tzeentch. What do you think? Any hope for a future series where BL readers get to see the non-magical human side of Tzeentchian corruption and influence?

Spoiler

Somewhat spoiling the end of the book here, but check out The King of the Spoil if you're looking for something like that. Tzeentch himself is never even brought up till the very end, even though one of his agents is the cause for everything in the novel

Book releases revealed by Fnac:

https://www.fnac.com/a21172291/Warhammer-40-000-Aube-de-feu-9-le-roi-silencieux-G-Haley   (April 16 last book of the Dawn of Fire series Silent King by Guy Haley)

https://www.fnac.com/a21172286/J-Reid-Titre-a-venir   (unknown book by Jude Reid releasing on April 30)

The ADB SE of The Emperor’s Gift finally got its Oz release this morning and was gone within 30 seconds.  Either Aaron has a large, dedicated following Downunder or the scalpers recognised a big name when they saw it.  Everything else is still available (as of 5 minutes ago) for those interested and in the region.

I saw on Twitter and Bluesky that @Malkydel is now a fully qualified Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology.  Maybe that should qualify him to give us a death guard novel? If a former a marine can write about laser designatig tanks then a ell pathologist can talk about diseases and mutations.

I really wish BL would allow authors to use more of their background knowledge. Guymer commented on it in the past and said BL doesn't really want too much of that in their novels.

Thats a real shame. Jude Reid is a surgeon and Ashes of Cadia was full of medical gribbly bits, and starred a surgeon. Write what you know is good advice. I wrote a court room drama about lamenters for the open submissions, given my line of work. I'll blame the above for not being selected, not my writing being bad.

What other experience do the BL authors have? There's a few professional writers and journalists, some in education- anything else?

I find Fehervari's work in television really shows through in his work, particularly how he plays with and uses suspense.

I harp on it ALL the time, but his endless stairway fake-out in Requiem is something right out of a horror serial, and it's done so masterfully that I - a reasonably well-read, well-watched horror enthusiast - was totally blindsided by it. His blending of mediums and how he translates his knowledge is what makes him so incredibly good.

There's a big difference between Jude Reid and Peter Fehervari being able to use skills and knowledge from their day jobs in writing BL fiction, and Joe Schmoe wanting to write a story about an insurance claims adjustor on Terra who has a crush on Sanguinia in the typing pool and hates his superiors and only get 20 days Annual Leave, lol :)

I really hope there's more to it or it's not going to be priced as regular SE/LE. Signature and a few pages short story is crappy offering for more than double the hardback price

It's absolutely will be priced as a LE/SE. Double the price for a bland cover and subpar print quality... The usual BL offering.

Annoyed that the Dark Coil collection is a paperback.  Would have much preferred it was HB or even a SE.  Will still get it though

I’d have been fine with hardback but I think we need an accessible edition of Fehervari’s work that will hopefully be around for a bit. They’ve already done a limited edition Dark Coil set.

The only thing from the LVO preview for BL (40k at least, there was a dark elf book)

is

Mink Lesk Hell's Last with accompanying set of miniatures

https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/fp9d9s5n/lvo-preview-2025-minka-lesk-and-maleneth-witchblade-square-up-with-new-miniatures/

Pretty cool that our Mr Hill's books have gone over well enough to get the miniature's set as well. Interested to see if that's it for the BL news until next month or what the deal is though, they made a big deal about spending a whole week on BL for the celebration, but then said nothing
