The lack of proper engagement has somewhat sucked the joy out of being a fan. The whole patronising (writing aimed at 12 year olds on WHC) secret squirrel approach to what is coming and when is totally irritating me these days.

Couldn't agree more and I'm glad you've gone and said it. I understand ADB is the highest profile author to reduce his social media presence (which I completely support on a personal level), but there is clearly something else going on here, some company directive from above or something I can't quite put my finger on. I think I mentioned this back in 2022, but I'm convinced Black Library releases are stuck in an artificial bottleneck. Well, that's my best-case scenario, because my worst-case scenario involves Games Workshop completely overhauling BL in secret. As an outsider looking in it seems impossible for new books to be announced these days without a new model release or at least an associated WarCom article. In fact, I spotted "the tyranny of WarCom" as I call it a while ago. At this point in time I genuinely don't know if WarCom is simply part of GW's public-facing relations or has grown into something else entirely. Either way, it has grown and grown and grown in importance and visibility while other aspects of GW's public relations have declined

Of course, I've noticed that whenever this subject is brought up people will trot out the usual explanations: it's covid's fault, or the Siege of Terra, or newer authors aren't being given a chance, or GW are allowed to tie books to model releases, or the debates about BL's importance within GW - or whatever. And don't get me started on special editions. People are more than welcome to purchase and enjoy them (when they're able to) but a significant chunk of these threads are usually about special editions, and that doesn't give me the impression of a healthy readership or a thriving written world GW/BL are creating. I'm not going to hark on about the good old days of 2009 when you could buy a Horus Heresy novel -- in its standard edition -- from a local bookstore on release day; even comparing today to 2019 or even 2021 there has quite clearly been a quiet, but noticeable shift in the direction BL is heading

It became blindingly obvious when Thorpe posted on social media that he was working on a Votann novel and uploaded a screenshot of literally six words that sounded vaguely Votannic. That post disappeared almost immediately afterwards, possibly as soon as someone shook James Workshop awake to see that the various socials were alive in a way akin to starving men being air-dropped a Christmas ham.

Wasn't the Black Library Celebration online video event supposed to happen in February? Has any specific date been announced? Only 17 days of February are left. I check the Warhammer Community website everyday but I do not see any indication of a Black Library event this month. Does anyone have any idea about this BL event?

Well I assume we will have it by the end of Feb, maybe early March, based on this "You can watch all of these shows with a Warhammer+ subscription. If you’re subscribed by the 28th of February, you’ll be entered into the Black Library Celebration competition, where three lucky people can each win 33 books"

Grotsnink: Da Mad Dok by Denny Flowers will be released later this year, firstly as a special edition in a case with gorgeous artwork and green foil details. The book itself contains an afterword by Denny, has a fetching green cover with foil page edges, and a black ribbon bookmark. Copies will be limited and signed by the author.

You’ll be able to get the regular editions soon after.

Interested in the regular edition, mainly to see what the weapon to surpass Metal Gear, I mean, "something that will supplant the creation of Ghazghkull" is

I guess that answers the question from yesterday though

Wonder if they're just going to say on Sunday "welcome to Black Library Celebration week" and that's that or if there will be an actual announcement

Nice to see another in this series, but surprised we have another Ork one in it. I'd have expected one 'character' novel for each faction.

That being said looks like fun from a decent author. Grotsnik is a character who deserves more time in the spotlight (and a new model!).

Have to admit that this years Black Library Celebration is rather boring.
Two new novels, which come with no surprise (already annouced last year).
And the BL Celevration figures go to Lesk + team which already got a figure 1 or 2 years ago.
Wonder when a novel is going to be released that will captivate me once more. It has been some time.

BL art direction strikes again with absolutely atrocious font style on Maleneth cover. Blood of the Imperium isn't any better.

Probably the least exciting BL Celebration ever. Might be the first time I'm not going to buy anything

Whole one new novel for 40k... And of course, HH has to have a bunch of miniatures released at the same time...

Ok so I get the frustration but don't be mad at us, a lot of those were previewed months ago and they had a backlog of things

That all being said

This is shaping up to be a disappointment of a week for a "celebration"

I once again ask where the big hitters for BL are? Where is Black Legion 3? Where is Watchers of the Throne? Where in the Emperor's name is (inset expletive here) Era of Ruin?

If we go this week without seeing anything other than what's already shown, which they say there will be something other than that but who knows what that means, then I'll irrationally rant so hard it'll make Scribe proud

Re: free celebration anthology -

"Those who make a purchase in store will receive a paperback copy while stocks last, while if you buy from Blacklibrary.com, you will receive an eBook edition."

So if you buy a novel from warhammer.com (ie not Black Library site, nor in store), what do you get??

It does say "Anyone who purchases a book during the Black Library Celebration will receive a free Anthology of short stories"

Oh don't get me wrong, I want like 4 of those minis, but couldn't they pushed them back a week or two...?

Any idea if that includes kindle purchases? They're on Amazon so probably not but its where I get most of mine, so I'm hoping that possibly they might.
