If someone is buying models for their 2k army, why would GW want them to pause to buy another product at a much lower profit margin? I'm sure they've looked at competing products and buyer habits and figured out its not worth dropping the profit margin on it. They're quite happy for you go to buy some troops instead of terrain

From a consumer point of view I do think it's too expensive (nearly all mine has come from hachette magazines), but I think the price of character models is even worse. I'm not baffled why they charge so much though, it's just a pity is all.

Because they could have them buy both rather than lose the additional sale to cheaper mdf. If they're at such capacity and demand that running a ix of XYZ yields a bigger return than a reduced cost terrain kit, then fair play, but it's a section of the market they'll never corner with these products and prices.

the Imperial Sector is not actually the same as the kill team box. It was a special set to make 3 big buildings and doesn’t include any of the arch doorways of the kill team box.  The walls are actually a special (only in this set) triple wall panel. So the set isnt quite as modular as others.

I didn't know that and I have all the kits! They are still boxed waiting for me to finally make my gaming table. I just assumed the Imperial Sector was going to contain the single wall sections like the other kits did as the components all looked like they matched. Thanks for the info, and I apologise for saying the sprues were the same.

I suspect terrain is a secondary purchase for most players. I know I’ve had phases where I bought models I’d never get to, but at the same time, terrain can be used by all armies/players. It can also be a good way to do group painting since everyone can benefit by finished terrain.

There are still Sanctum Administratus kits available in Australia and it seems like their RRP is $160aud. If the made to order is in line with that (a big if) then I will feel like it's justifiable.

Indeed, I started buying terrain only once my main armies were big enough and with an advanced level of painting completed...

But is it really the case or has it more to do with starting KT at more or less the same moment...

For anybody considering the MTO Sector Imperialis - Manufactorum.

The sprues inside are identical to the Battlezone Manufactorum: Sanctum Adminstratus (you can see this by comparing them on GW's webstore).

The  Sector Imperialis - Manufactorum contains 2 wall sprues & 1 floor sprue, is £50 and MTO (so GW webstore only and FOMO).

The Battlezone Manufactorum: Sanctum Adminstratus contains 3 wall sprues & 2 floor sprues and is £63.25, is still produced (so no FOMO) and not GW webstore only, so you can get it discounted at a 3rd party webstore.

Don't buy in to GW's marketing with this FOMO and pay them more money for less value. Just shop around and you can get 66% more building for almost the same price. Hell, even if you buy the Sanctum Adminstratus directly from GW, you're still getting 66% more building for 25% more cost.

Real shame the Sector Imperialis stuff isn't coming back as a part of the core range.

To be fair, I've got the Kill Team set with Genestealer Cults vs Mechanicus and I'm certain a box of Chalnath somewhere.

Might pick up the objectives, always liked that Escape Pod as a version of a 'Stealth Pod' for Scout team insertions.

Thanks for that, @Toxichobbit - I was contemplating the Manufactorum to extend my Derelict Factorum. I'd never have noticed.

Real estate costs are really high nowadays, why should it be anything else in 40k...

A shame that these kits aren't availible for a reasonable price to anyone in the future.

If they'd brought back the Derelict Factorum I'd have been all over it. I missed that one when it was out and it's a really cool unique kit that you can't make with anything else.

Thanks for the heads up with the Manufactorum  sprues. I’m curious , Is the derelict something one could convert using the regular kits and destroying them with a hobby knife and clippers? Or any parts that are too unique for that?

Probably. But you'd need some Manufactorum/Sanctum Administratus sprues, 2 sets of Alchomite Stacks & a Ferrotonic Furnace, plus some of the Sector Mechanicus walkways. Plus a few bits of brass rod to create rebar/wires sticking out of the broken Mechanicus walkways. That wouldn't give you an exact replica, as some of the Mehcanicus panels are lifted up or missing on the original, but it'd be so close I doubt anybody but you would know.

The problem is that the Ferratonic Furnace is OOP and the cheapest way to get the walkways & Alchomite Stack is Sacristan Forgeshrine. So you'd be looking at 2 x Sacristan Forgeshrine, 1 x Sanctum Administratus & then sourcing the bottom part of a Ferratonic Furnace from somewhere. But yeah, if you can get the parts then it's definitely doable. Miniset.net is the best place for pictures if you do decide to embark on such a project.

You can get close, but it'll get expensive. Old Average Brit Gaming's unboxing may help you see what's inside.

The Sanctum weighing in at $100 is tempting- those buttress statues are awesome- two kits and you'd have 4 per side.

The Basilicanum is nice too, and one of those + two Sanctums and you're good. If the old SoB Sanctum had returned as part of this MTO, I would have bought that I think. It's tough, because I know the good stuff that's coming, and money is tight.

Miniset.net has pictures of all the sprues for the kit, as well as pictures of different angles of it completed and a detailed description of what was in the box. It's another great resource for anyone wanting to know what they'd need to re-create it.

For those of us that missed out on these more unique buildings, this is the only way to get the statue bits correct?

The Sanctum and Basilicanum are not buildable from any other kits.

The prices for these two are not great, but far better than I thought they would be.

Yeah, that's right. I think the Sanctum is the only kit to ever include the cool arches & statues. The Basilicanum statues were in some of the Kill Team Killzones, but those are long OOP as well.

It's up in NZ.

Bit steep as suspected.

Basilicanum $230nz

Sector $330nz

Sanctum and Manufactorum $165nz

Objectives $90nz

Around 500 CAD to get one of each here. I think I’m finally being priced out of GW for anything new till I’ve done some major work on my backlogs. We’ll see if the price us right for the Hachette mag when it gets launched here, though I don’t like that it has zero terrain in it this time around, it has a taste of almost every army at least.

I've gone around in circles on the Sanctum......

I like the arches and statues and am gutted I missed out the first time on these/missing the first waves of kill team that had soooo much of this terrain in and actually teams I wanted too.. sad times!

I dont have the money and my other half will actually kill me so I really shouldnt anyway...

They are too expensive for nostaligia at a time when I dont have the money so I think I will give them a miss.

@toxichobbit - thanks for that comparison. If anything I think I might get that battlezone when I have more hobby funds.

If they re-release the various pipe sets I'd be very tempted to get a few sets of those - the plasma ones ideally but I'd take the others too

Hah wanted to make a last minute spur of the moment order after I "will I - won't I'd" for a week. But seems like the ever glorious Warhammer online store has more financial prudent decisions in mind for me... By just being broken once again.

Oowee they've been having trouble the last couple days. Yesterday I assumed it was a botched DNS cutover, since my games-workshop.com requests were being redirected to warhammer.com. (Maybe that's not new. Up until yesterday I hadn't been visiting GW's site all that often since the new design went live.)

As far as I can tell today, only warhammer.com "works", in that it takes well over a minute to take you to some sort of page, and it seems hit and miss whether you get a gateway timeout or the actual website.
