Billy Butcher
After a very very very long gestation period, I'm finally starting on my heresy era Imperial Fists. First mini is done - as a proof of concept / recipe and to figure out what order to do things to be quicker. Also, the trim on the new MKIII is a PITA to paint. Pearson73
Excellent job, just the right level of weathering. The damage to the fist looks particularly good, any tips there? I always struggle to weather yellow without just trashing it... I sponge my weathering, but you could paint it - it's all about randomness, just sometimes you need to 'direct it'. Step 1 - sponge chip a paler shade of the armour colour, in this case a pastel yellow kind of thing - ideally this will be the 'outer edge' of the weathering. Step 2 - sponge chip a really dark brown over the top, I try and not obliterate Step 1, if you do, repeat Step 1, ideally this will leave the pale yellow at the edges, the brown being the outer edge in some areas is fine, probably even desirable. Step 3 - sponge chip a silver of your choosing, but very lightly, to show fresh damage - I use gun metal, again try and make this less than the previous Step, and inside of it, but some overlap in a few places is good. Tips- less is more, if you're doing it over a colour like yellow please be careful in case you get carried away, it's hard to get back to yellow :), so practice on something that doesn't matter so much. Good luck! Billy Butcher
A closer pic is below. To be fair I think most of the larger areas of damage were painted - I was winging it in a rush.
