grailkeeper
Games Workshop is recruiting for a new Creative Lead for 40k who will develop the world and narrative of the IP as a senior member of the design team. This position will “manage and guide a team of writers and editors”, shaping the “written background sections of our books, boxed games and digital products.” Details here https://jobs.games-workshop.com/search-and-apply/creative-lead-warhammer-40000 I think that most likely this will go to someone who has worked for GW in the past. Petitioner's City
This sounds a bit Publications era, but hopefully much better. I really hope John French applies, as someone who has a great history of both world building and games writing, but im sure there are many eligible candidates! 1ncarnadine and Dalmyth 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384866-gw-recruiting-a-new-creative-lead/#findComment-6082120 Share on other sites

N1SB
Brother Grailkeeper, I think you know this better than I do, there's some sort of law or bylaw where an employer HAS to open up the field for potential applicants even though GW already has someone in mind for the job? Even if that wasn't the case, it'd STILL be a good idea to promote from within for this job particularly, because whoever it is has to have massive street cred with the writers and editors he has to manage. But I also hear what you're saying, this new position in itself shows GW is serious about coordinating all this now. Well spotted, Brother. Not that I know of, but what I know of UK employment law could probably be written on the back of a stamp. I do know of plenty of government civil service jobs which have been advertised where they have someone in mind even before recruitment starts. Still, GW isnt the government. Wormwoods
If this means they're going to try and capitalise on recent game and video successes, sure, why not. One step closer to me getting the 'XCOM but it's the Deathwatch' game I've always wanted. Don't mention that Grey Knights game to me. It isn't technically a requirement to advertise a vacancy publicly. However, you do have to ensure that the vacancy isn't hidden from any current employees. In practice this means that almost all businesses of any size at all advertise publicly for the avoidance of any employment law issues. But you're also quite right that it's almost certainly a role with an internal candidate already lined up. Cactus
I can tell you from experience that a UK company can headhunt an employee without public advertisment of the role or formal interview. That doesn't mean that managers within GW don't have one or more preferred candidates in mind, or that the criteria won't skew towards GW experience being necessary. However if they wanted to just appoint Wade/John French/C.S. Goto or whoever I'm sure they could and would. I doubt many hate the Matt Ward fluff any more than I do. However, I did watch an interview with him not long ago that made me cut him a little slack. Apparently he’s not even a huge Ultramarines fan and was given guidance as to what to write about them. He was, according to him, an Imperial Fists collector/fan. He doesn’t get a pass from me though for Kaldor Draigo. May his name forever be purged. I really hope they hit a home run with this hire. The game being good doesn’t mean nearly as much to me as good lore/fluff.
