Crusade Rules - Prototype System Requisition Clarification

Hi all, got a question for my fellow Crusade Heads. I'm setting up my Tau for the 2025 Crusade my game group is running, and have run into an odd little point that needs clearing up. 

 

 

My initial assumption was that the COST of getting your level up this way was that you were forced to take your Battle Honour from the underwhelming Battlesuit options, but in discussion with the group there's disagreement on that. As worded, it kind of implies you get 6 XP, level up, roll as normal and then pick an extra trait from the battlesuit list.

 

I'm pretty sure that isn't the intended read, but can't find it clarified anywhere. Anyone got a lead?

Given that these are separated by a period, I would read it as two separate things. If they were meant to force you to only take a Battlesuit upgrade, it would instead be worded something like this: "That unit gains 6XP (and therefore gains the Blooded rank) the Battle Trait selected must be from the Battlesuit Units table." 

Fluff wise, I read it as only a veteran gets access to a suit with a Prototype system, so to take a suit like that, they would already need to have some previous experience.

Based on the wording, the trait does (unfortunately) need to be selected from the Battlesuit list. You can replace it later or house rule it to be any trait. Just double check with your local group if that is ok. Personally I'd allow it as the marines have a similar requisition but it doesn't limit what the trait is.
