New detachment arrived, how are you all planning on using it if you're going to? My take on it is this may be a better detachment for units without an invulnerable save as a 5++ isn't better than a 6+++,  yes you can have two units with a 5+ FNP in Righteous Crusaders but this protects your whole army better imo so Outriders, Inceptors, Crusaders, Intercessors are all better so the next question is, does it have teeth?  +1S isn't that good BUT +1S AND Chaplains means your S5 now wounds on 2s vs most infantry and on 3s vs T5 and if I'm not mistaken on 4s vs T6-7 so weight of attacks can be deadlier. Stealth enhancement is really tasty specially on a Terminator brick, it's not a 5+++ BUT -1 to hit makes Tau and Eldar sad so it really tickles my fancy.

I think this has play and I have been building a list with Assault Squads, Inceptors and Outriders so I will probably use this detachment so everything moves 14" with a 5++ when I need it.

What does everyone think?

I think they're about equal strength in terms of army rules. You don't get as good of rules as the Index, but you can switch them out during the game as you need to.

I'm back and forth on the Strats and enhancements. I can already tell though a Lieutenant with the Pyrebrand will be an insane durability boost to Helbrecht's Sword Brethren squad.

The detachment rule is both cool and good. I like it very much! The enhancements are good and thematic too.

Some of the strats are just meh. No real help to damage or unique stuff. The precision one is just plain dull.

But im happy with a new way to play. Gonna try it out for sure!

How do you find the RELENTLESS MOMENTUM Stratagem? I have not a lot of experience in 10th but it doesn't seem to change much in melee or am I wrong?

I think it's a bit situational but really useful for crusader squads and the detachment helps black tide lists a lot with the extra movement and 5++ so if you get your 20 man crusader blob into combat practically the entire unit will get to attack.

Having done some in depth looking, it's definitely a worse detachment overall. I think the army rule can be good and some of the enhancements are nice, but vs the Index it's just lacking quite a bit.

Rightous Crusader is 100x more powerful. If you need a combo against T4 then you have a 40k problem anyway - We are on a vehicle meta and you have to kill things with T10 and 2+ save. Thats not easy in this detachment.

Its boring because this detachment buffs units which were already buffed in RC - but far better in RC. FnP is far better then 5++

Think about how often you will use the 5++ for your Impulsors (not that often) but its already a vehicle which is most often the target of High Str. High AP weapons.

What does a 5++ for you when you have a 3+ save in cover??? Nothing.

The only thing which this detachment does is giving you rules which would be nice for a shooting army. A lot of Intercessors with Assault weapons.

I will play a silly list today and tryout how it feels in reality - but i dont think there is much room for competitve success.

All in all there are a few things which i consider the strongest things in 10th editon:

1. access to higher ap in melee

2. fight first

3. fight on death

4. combo with better crits (lethal on 5s for example or rerolls for units which have 2+ BS and Sustained 2)

5. advance and charge

all of them except for one unit RC does the same or FAR FAR better.
