As much as the codex cover leaves a bit to be desire in regards to proportions, some details feel a little specific. Like the helm with the thingy on top that I dont know the name for.

I'm going to share my thoughts.

 

This is an early tease, our release should be around October.

Valrak did mention a special chaplain, as we know Judiciar is kinda of a special chaplain, and the dude in the cover fits the bill. 

 

He had a veil on the helmet instead of covering the face, his knee pad also has a skull like the vanila Judiciar, amd he has a greatsword and an interesting symbol of the right greave. I do believe the cover guy is our second model.

I think you might be on to something. Valrak is saying though the new model has a crozius.

Skulls on knees arent exclusive to chaplains either. 

If we do get a new kind of squad i guess he could be based on them? Not sword brethren with greatswords? I wont mind the visuals of it but that would be too close to sword brethren(also inner cirle companions) so i hope we dont get that. In that case i still hope its terminators of some kind for us. 

The front guy is just so different with the red trim and red cross and the thing on the helmet, that i cant help but think its not artistic license.

So Valrak has come with some more rumours. Apparently we are getting a "Excoriator" which to me sounds like a reversed Chaplain. Instead of inspiring our troops he basicly just screams cursewords at the enemy!(love this!).

Still with a crozius and maybe a skull mask. So still Chaplain in look.

 

And we should get our release in August together with Grey Knights.

"Excoriate" is synonymous with "flay", so I wonder if this could be some kind of Reiver Chaplain who terrorizes enemy troops? The Latin root word excoriatus means to literally scrape away skin or bark, which makes me think the model may have some way to bypass or debuff saving throws. I'm probably putting way too much stock in a name,  it'll likely be something completely different.

Definitely sounds plausibe and cool. But i rather hope it will be the other thing!

I just realised there's an IF successor chapter called the Excoriators. I've not read Legion of the Damned, so I'm unsure if there is a named Chaplain in that book, but I wonder if this may actually be one of those BL characters, like Vitrian Messinius? A Chaplain's black armour would be easy to mistake for a BT, and the one white shoulder pad, especially from an angle where the chapter symbol isn't visible, could give such an appearance. 

Edit: A little research yielded the name Shadrath, attached to the Excoriator's 5th company during the events of LotD. 

Edit-edit: I just checked the rumor thread, and Execrator is a word that could be the real name and not Valrak's mispronunciation.

Either way, I know the new model IS going to end up on my ever-accumulating pile of shame... as well as anything else that may come. Guess I'll have to figure out a new freehand...

(By the way, we ALL called the navigator skull on the Iron Halo as definitely US! Good work everybody!)

Getting multiple of the cusser chaplain too because it has some delicious looking bits.

 

Sword and Croze style being an armament option is also cool.

 

I wonder if there's more in the pipeline? Valrak has said he thinks there might be, but afaik the ancient and the execrator where the only 2 he knew were coming

Since these are the 2 he knew about i doubt we will get more. Especially since rumours said we will get the release in august together with Grey Knights. That said they could just be close together but if its a double release I really dont see us getting more.

I think you're right. I originally thought it'd be just 1 character, so already up one.

Still, would have loved a terminator something (because c'mon, this is the terminator releases edition)

 

Hopefully we can start getting some details on what's in the codex soon.

After years of getting absolutely nothing (no new models, rules, and years spent rolled up into the big SM codex as little more than a paint scheme). I'm just happy to be getting attention again. Both new models look amazing. Sure, we can wish for other things, but long story short, we have new things!

 

I'm sure there will be some rollover with the SM codex, but I wait anxiously for tidbits on what's in the book for us. I admit, given the releases between 5th and 8th all but forgetting BT, it's hard to be optimistic, but I cautiously am. (Am I the only one hoping that this edition sticks around a bit, or is that just me showing my age?)

I don't think this edition has more than a year left but I do hope next edition isn't a reset again so the current books can still be used, I know others are also tired of the 3 year cycle.
