Hello, all.

As a bit of a new years resolution to be more involved in the hobby, I've decided to start an Iron Warriors army. I already own a few miniatures of my own, and am compiling a list. Here's what I have so far, and it's come a decent way since my first rendition of the list. However, I'm struggling trying to find good ways to use my remainder points up. Here's the list. I'm also debating what models to use as the indomitus squad, as leviathan terminators are too large, and the old 40k terminators are dumb-looking. I'm considering Tartaros terminators but I want to hear other opinions first.

C&C welcome and recommended, anything helps. Cheers!

Edit: I currently own one and a half tactical squads, a Contemptor, and a cataphractii squad. The rest will come with time.

It looks like a good list. With your remaining points I might be tempted to upgrade the Cataphractii terminators to a Dominator Cohort. It’s only 15 points more and for that you get WS5 and thunder hammers on everyone. They also get hatred automata but that’s a bit more situational.

That leaves 60 points which I would spend on either bigger tactical squads, another apothecary or maybe weapons upgrades (depending on what you’ve already got).

Okay ...

1.)  There's a sub-section specificaly for army lists, maybe have an admin move it to there ?

2.)  What points level are you aiming for with your list ? 3k ? 3.5k ? More ?  Looks like 3k to me, but still.

3.)  Will you be using any RoW  (Rite of War)  ?

4.)  Upgrades on the units ? These might alter points cost to quite some extend, and also 'the devil is in the details' as the saying goes. Maybe be a bit more elaborate about each individual units gear etc. ?

5.)  Why are you bringing 3 more or less barebones HQ units ?  Where will they be attached ? What's their purpose ?

6.)  Indomitus rarely make sense except if your list is sort of 'build' around them.

7.)  It is always good and admirable to have a broad selection of different unit types (performing different roles) for a variety of battlefield purposes. Your list could use more focus though. What's the idea behind it ? How do you it to play out ? How do you want it to FEEL ?

2. 3-3.5k points. I've made a few edits and I've settled upon 3100 right now, but it will change as things are optimized. I am decently new to Listbuilding so it may seem novice at first or third glance.

3. My rite of war is Hammer of Olympia. I like the reroll on failed shots on shrapnel weapons.

4. I've alleviated it by equipping most of my units with the aforementioned shrapnel weapons.

5.

Optae: kind of a fodder HQ, attach him to the Frontline breach squad. Has strength of the legion, but I don't expect it to be used a lot in the battle strategy in my mind.

Centurion: I'm assigning him as Herald and putting the Legion Standard on him. He has fearless which is useful for pinning tests combined with the rerolls on shrapnel guns. Put him on a tactical squad.

Warsmith: using the battlesmith ability a lot here with the expectation that my vehicles and automata would be targeted pretty quickly due to how tanky the leviathan is especially. Keep him by himself because of independent character, keep nearby the aforementioned units as a medic.

6. I've replaced them with a breacher squad.

7. I want it to feel like a siege force, lots of firepower and it has multiple chances to hit if it falls short. I put up the breacher squad as mentioned before because I want it to feel like an armored front-line while the cavalry and heavy guns lay behind shields

Putting a warsmith on his own is a very easy way to get him shot dead turn one.

Never do that.

Barebone Assaul Squads do nothing. They need two power weapons (axe and lances both are good, mauls to an extent, never swords) and something on their sergeant.

Barebone tacticals on foot die to easy. Put em in a Rhino or make them bigger.

A Herald make the unit line so he would be better in the Indomitus squad.

Again a 5 men squad on foot does very little. Put them in a Land Raider or make them bigger to footslogg them.

With an attached Herald they can score and sre fearless which is nice although with perturabo in your army the units should be very hard to break anyway because of his special rules.

Starting the game with a 3k army list is nonsense. Begin with 1000 points games and slowly grow. That way you'll learn the game way better.

I've updated the list as according to the critiques and suggestions of others. A 1k point list, with the centurion on my Tactical squad with the rhino. He's no longer Herald, as his special rules I feel would be more effective with larger armies. Still has that big-guns feel especially with the dreadnoughts I have selected, anvilus on the deredeo and assault cannon on the Contemptor. Screenshot_20250102-112734-660.thumb.png.104968d32f0f3deb4bf03675a457870c.png

No one is going to be particularly pleased to tango with two Dreadnoughts at 1K. One would be more than sufficient. Apothecaries are force multipliers - points spent on an Apothecary for a 10-man tactical squad would be better spent bumping them up to 15-man.

1K points aren't played often, but it's still pretty fun. If you're doing so, treat it like an Allied detachment with an additional troop requirement and use that to build a core for your army.

You said earlier you're going for a Hammer of Olympia build.

1 x Warsmith with Lightning Claws

2 x 15 Tacticals with Sharpnels

1 x Contemptor

Something like this would give you a solid core to build from and leave you with about 250-300 points to play with. I'm a fan of Autocannon Iron Havocs which can glance anything short of a Flare Shield Spartan to death. You could alternatively spend the points bumping up the Tactical squads to 20-man units with Apothecaries to pile 3+/4+++ bodies on objectives which could be extremely difficult for certain armies to be shift.
