Welcome everyone to a new WIP blog! Over recent years I’ve worked almost exclusively on HH projects, I thought it was about time for a fun “palate cleansing” project.

I’ve always had a nostalgic soft spot for Gorka Morka, it was the second big box set that I had as a kid. I thoroughly enjoyed butchering the contents of the box and playing the odd game with school friends, but due to a lack of experience at the time, the project never really got off the starting blocks.

Fast forward several years and we have access to so many amazing kits now from GW. Whilst the models from my original collection are long gone, the books are still intact.

So, with the experience earned over years of modelling and painting HH projects, coupled with a desire to push the boundaries of weathering techniques and perhaps even a foray into the world of contrast paints, I plan to embark on a new project!

For those who are interested, I’m going to build a Gorka gang, starting with the following list:

Spoiler

Da Black Adderz (Gorker gang)

Nob - Skarfang Grimshag (Da Black Adder)

Trakk - “Da Bone Rattler”

Driver - Baldreg (Spanner)

Buggy - “White lightnin” (Eavy shoota)

Driver - Razgob (Spanner)

Gunner - Morglum (boy)

Da Boyz -

Skarsnik (boy) - Slugga and Choppa

Garbag (Yoof) - Choppa and shield

Urzwoz (Yoof) - Choppa and shield

Stay tuned for some actual WIP!

Ah, Gorkamorka ... there's a game I missed out on, and regretted it. It'd be great to see GW do a re-imagining with new models ...

It'll be good to see what you come up with.

I made the decision to use the new beast snagga boys for the infantry, the sculpts are really nice, lots of detail. The increased scale might present a practical problem though, as it will mean less boyz can fit on a trukk.

Gorka Morka used to encourage modelling for advantage. You used to see lots of trukk conversions with two decks etc. Couple that with the ridiculous base sizes

and you could probably fit quite a few boyz on a single trukk.

You often hear how non Ork warbands, especially Mutie Raiders, were much less competitive. But what if you weren’t supposed to model your trukks to carry 20 boyz each? That would mean that the growth of an Ork warband would be limited, until you could afford to invest in another vehicle. So perhaps having 25mm bases on units would bring a sense of balance to other factions.

Anyway, the second challenge with the beast snagga scale is the crew. I wanted everything to tie in and have the option of a model on foot to represent drivers and gunners that have left their vehicles, to collect scrap or in the event of immobilisation etc.

So I converted the beast snagga boyz into drivers, combing the legs and arms from the original driver with the torso/head of a beast snagga. So a second box of beast snaggas should allow me to build an exact replica of the driver on foot. Oh, and they also have to be removable, I like a challenge:

Meet Baldreg, the driver of “Da Bone Rattler”. An old, but glorious forgeworld upgrade kit that is long OOP, lucky eBay find. The trakk needs stripping and a few details adding, but you can see how the combining beast snagga parts form the driver (who is removable), he just about squeezes in the seat! I quite like his expression, mixture of concentration and joy, clenching his jaw tight to stop his teeth rattling….

Bit more WIP, “White lightnin”, made using a boomdakka snazzwagon, roof removed to make it a bit easier to remove the driver. Eavy shooter from the trukk. Gunner and driver made from beast snaggas again!

Trakks are a little cheaper than buggies and Trukks, but we’ve made the decision to make buggies cheaper, given their limited transport capacity.

Well I’ve put together my meagre collection of gang members on foot. I went for shield on the yoofs, they should dramatically increase my chances of winning combat, but they also look pretty awesome!

Also stripped the Trakk and added a few bits. Moved the bar over the crew compartment to the back, should stop my boyz falling off the back of the trakk! Put an armoured panel over the front of the engine and a pintle mounting point. The heavy shooter is a place holder, eventually I’m going to put a scorcha on the Trakk, it’s starting out unarmed! Here’s some pictures of my start up gang fully built:
