is it atall possible we could see T'au as a DLC faction at some point?

Unless the game is a complete abject failure at launch and sells considerably less than expected, then it is completely reasonable to expect that every faction will get support eventually, if the mod-ability is on par with the Warhammer Fantasy Total war then I would expect to get them even sooner, or at least to get an sub factions that haven't received support yet.

I haven't played much Total War, I think Shogun 2 is the only one I ever put any real time into. I know Warhammer III has a lot of DLC and still getting DLC 3 years after release. Do we think Total War 40K could see the same kind of post launch content? And, well, to be blunt, is it atall possible we could see T'au as a DLC faction at some point? Because that would be an instant buy for me.

They are so desperate for DLC content in TW: WH3 they have brought back some absolutely obscure units from the dark recesses of Warhammer Fantasy lore. Assuming the game is succesful, I think every faction in the game will show up.

I absolutely believe that this game will get a decade of support, and Tau will be in.

It would take a total failure for this to not happen.

It'd take a total failure, that wasn't patched and continued to fail harder by the initial Chaos or Tyranid DLC for that to happen. Assuming Tau aren't bundled with Tyranids in the initial DLC and the later stuff isn't just more focused on adding more regiments and chapters.

Small Segment in Total War Community Inbox stream five days ago, starting at 52 Minutes;

Mention of "Ambient Units" as small skirmishes going on independent of the player upon their arrival. The bigger question was about the existence of Space Battles; to which the answer was "It will definitely be there eventually, the when is the big question." though they re-iterate that the desire for it is there. Additionally they are currently preparing to stream and show off gameplay as soon as they deem it ready.

While not 40k specific they also stated the desire to expand the TWW3 mod manager to their entire catalogue where possible, which would include TWW40K when it comes out.

Some combat footage within, admittedly very rough atm. Also concept art of Ghaz and Yarrick, so I guess that's named characters confirmed in some capacity.

Beta sign-ups.

I think cover will be a mix of deployable cover from units on the defensive (pictures below) but there's also some trench works shown that seem to be map specific. Also mention of clearing terrain to allow for more room to maneuver.

r/totalwar - First look at unit cards, UI and cover system

Tanks and things like Stompa's seem to be like an upgraded iteration to what we have in TW:WH ie. Marianburg landships etc

The battlefield visuals (hive surrounding the map etc) seem really thematic, much more than TW:WH in my opinion.

God (emperor) I cant wait for this to come up. I've signed up for the closed beta already: https://www.totalwar.com/games/warhammer-40k/beta

Taken from elsewhere:
27 units with room for 32 at the bottom of the screen. Also a command limit 24/40. Bigger scale than previous
r/totalwar - 27 Units!

There is a reason imperial guard have "first rank fire! second rank fire!"
Hint: they fight in ranks.

Orks don't look so organised, just general blobs - much like you'd see on a tabletop game.

It’s ridiculous and no amount of “it’s a game” will cover for the fact creative assembly is a failing trash heap that cannot be bothered to come up with a cover system or anything more immersive than Napoleonic gun lines because they’re flailing and hemmoraging talent. This is nothing more than a shallow cash grab reskin of total warhammer and they’re counting on our love of the IP bailing their failing company out… and of course we will because someone made a game that just barely scratches the dopamine deficit in our brains for Warhammer games. It’s pathetic. We are pathetic. This is the slop we deserve and I hate it.

edit: also, they don’t fight in ranks. Some of them fight in ranks. It’s an exception. It’s what made the Mordians different to everyone else. Stop covering for their trash with toxic optimism. Warhammer 3 didn’t function for MONTHS and they did nothing about it. The AI would not play the game. They sat and didn’t move or build anything. That’s the quality we are getting here. That’s the level of care they give to their work. MONTHS of no -functional gameplay.

Some shots of the early galaxy map. They did mention they would like to eventually leave Armageddon, if that's the case the eventual mortal empires map might dwarf squat votann WH3

Just forget the "Total War" label and treat it as "Dawn of War: Apocalypse". Once you do, the Guard fighting in two-platoon blobs or the showcased so far cover being field fortifications randomly scattered across the battlefield stop being problematic. I've adjusted my expectations, accepted that they're taking the easy way out and now I'm more optimistic about the game :-) But I'm glad that they scrapped the WWI project, because simulating any more modern warfare is clearly beyond them.

It feels like TW with a reskin, which I don't think will be great. If it ends up being two lines clashing in the middle like normal TW games then I think they will have missed a trick.

Also, I really hope they allow you to garrison buildings, especially on the hive map. Unfortunately, they look like the normal TW maps where you can't interact with buildings on the map.

I kind of wish another dev did this game, I just have little faith in CA nowadays as all they produce is casual/shallow games and they havent really evolved the franchise over the years (and in some instances I would argue they regressed). And the decision to launch on console only makes me more apprehensive.

I hope I am wrong for both this and M3 and they knock them out the park though, I just don't think they will.
