In what way has the video game Space Marine 2 changed your perspective on the hobby?

It has in my case reinforced my love for the setting. I even have bought four Joy Toy Iron Hands who keep vigil when I do operations:

And now back to the gameplay. This game provides a very thrilling combat experience as it puts you right into the action. I have been playing video games since the 80s and nothing comes close to the visceral carnage. A few days ago I played for the first time Doom Eternal which had been lounging in my collection since the day it had been released. By the way I am also a Doom fan who played the first two titles and the predecessor of Doom Eternal.

So what was my impression of that new Doom iteration in comparison to Space Marine 2? Honestly it felt quite flat. It lacked the visceral impact you experience in SM2. This may be because it is not a first person shooter and Doom´s gameplay relies more heavily on being a speed freak zipping left and right across the map while mangling the demons.

Edit:

I talked about the impact of SM2 with my local GW store manager a couple of weeks ago and he confessed that the influx of new people into the hobby is on such a high level which he never experienced with any new edition of the tabletop game.

It hasn't really changed my perspective in any areas, but it really is great to see 40K gain a much wider audience, and to a degree aceptance, and garner so much new interest. The Secret Level animation is also doing quite a bit lifting in that regard too.

It’s hilarious the most requested feature on their forums is to use non-Mark X armor and Chaos customization in PVP and they can’t do it because the Licensing Manager won’t let them do it. They even said it was because the Chaos Marines were smaller, and then modders proved they’re literally the same exact size. Which is odd since the customization is like the main thing that will get people hooked on the hobby. Making THEIR dudes

GW & Saber agree though on the customization part of the CSM dudes. They want to keep the appearance of them unique so that an opposing player can INSTANTLY identify the class he is dealing with in PvP. If Chaos could customize without restraint then that distinction would be gone. So it is for a valid gameplaying purpose.

This is a good point but I feel it’s undermined slightly by the fact that when you get put on the loyalist side in a match your team mates can still look like CSM because of the heraldry you can purchase for your character. So the enemy look like CSM and so do some of your teammates. I know they have the identification system but I personally still find it confusing a lot of the time.

Go to the Saber website/forum and point his out. Maybe they will address this in an upcoming patch.

It hasn't really changed my perspective, it was a great representation of a lot of what I already imagined. Some of the interactions and layout on the battle barge puzzled me a bit, but I'm talking minor neglectable nitpicks. This is by far one of the better representations in digital media I have seen for 40k.  Totally not going to hide my bias as a T.sons player lol. But I would argue the astartes vs. magical astartes would not have been as doable normally. But I do recognize it is a power fantasy game. The attention to detail is great, historically speaking I would not expect so much attention to detail in the lore, references, etc. Like someone actually paid attention and put in the work! Bravo.

There is a cheeky thing I spotted toward the end of the game, you can spot a T.sons rhino that has the EXACT same bits that a 3rd party source used to sell and make without GW's permission. Whether the design that was made was intentional or not knowing this is funny.

My biggest is that it miraculously managed to somehow make Phobos armour look cool. I've hated it since its reveal but I'll be damned if it doesn't look sick as hell. Sure I still hate the Primaris lore change thing (at this point it's a me problem but whatever) but it really did do a good job of making the new armours look cool as hell, although I'm still praying for the OG helm marks to start sliding in.
