Alright, first maybe done paint job, though curious if anyone things it needs more. Right now it is pretty understated.

I am limiting myself to the john blanche army painter paints + tesseract though, with the goal of pushing myself a bit.

it probably doesn't help that the lighting is very weird

He looks great! Although if you are worried about the model being understated, perhaps adding a few daubs of various shades of rust-colored wash here and there might add more points of interest. Space Skaven are probably not known for keeping their equipment in pristine shape. Yes yes, rust rust.

I think he's great, but I think he would benefit from his head being a different colour than the mechanical bits, as it leaves him with a wierd "not fully painted look".  Maybe a muted and/or desaturated brown?

I definitely want it to be a metal, but I could render it in gold?

The blanche set came with a rust effect paint, so I'll look how to use it!

I'm not certain - and I'm worried it would go against the Blanche style colour scheme that you are going for.  Rather, I think our conflicting images are in how we see the head - to me, its contours speak to me as it being cloth or flesh/fur, where for you it speaks as being metal.  I don't think there's anyway to square that circle and we should just put it down as a difference of vision - in which case, I think you should stick with your vision and do what works for you.

Ok, I've done a little more work to push contrast, and try to suggest some weathering (staining in the cloak, warpstone staining around the points of emission, oil on the joints) as well as cleaning up some pieces here and there. I think this is done until basing:

A photo of the fully painted minis so far (no basing yet, but still considering it)

Did not succeed at my vow, alas, but did get a lot of paint down and am continuing on with it. Next up are rat ogryns, which I'm having a lot of fun with:

Looking for advice on what color/color combination/color pattern to do their fur. I'm thinking they should be a more mutation cultivated rat, like double rexes, nakeys, etc. but it doesn't boil things down much. They're subjects of science-rats experiments, so not quite the lab rats themselves (PEW) in general, but are something adjacent, and potentially bred for purpose.

I use a panoply of colors for fur. But my favorite fur recipe is:

Fur Recipe "Skrag"
■ Basecoat: Mournfang Brown
■ Wash: Agrax Earthshade
■ 1st Drybrush: Skrag Brown
■ 2nd Drybrush: Deathclaw Brown

I'm keeping strictly to john blanche masterclass + technicals/effects/etc... but I'm guessing I can do something similar with some paint mixes

I'll try it inspired by yours on one of them!

Speaking of, decided on black fur on one of them!

I just joined yesterday, noticed this thread and just had to read. These builds are awesome! Cool paint scheme, especially on the rat-ogryns. My fav model from these is the mining rig, really looking forward to seeing how it turns out when painted. Its so deeply, delightfully disturbing :D

Commendable dedication and awesome results! Best of luck continuing the project.

Thank you so much everyone! I'm really enjoying pushing myself on these at a bunch of different hobbying skills. I do have some ideas for next steps once I get all these painted, but I might work on some other projects and wait for night-runners to be released.
