The title of that Reddit post is "First Founding Space Wolves for Black Library by Igor Kieryluk" and it's artwork, not a model silhouette.

 

This might simply mean that there's a new story (novel? novella? short story?) from Black Library about the Space Wolves coming down the road. New miniatures would be great, of course, but a little expectation management would be prudent.

This is true, although there have been fairly reputable rumors about them, as well that we know two facts so to say. First, that the Space Wolves Codex has yet to be released, and second that each Codex release has been accompanied by at least one model. So we do know that there's at least one sometime in the future.

 

But I think to discredit that it would be a novel is that it is part of the 40k roadmap, so it is in the context of a Codex release (the silhouetted image, that is).

Unless Russ kickstarts 11th edition, which clairvoyant Valrac has strongly suggested is arriving imminently, I cannae see him showing up. Then again, maybe 11th and leman are both inbound.

Some of you may be misunderstanding the meaning of my post.

 

I wasn't suggesting that the teased release will just be a story. I was merely identifying the (probably unrealistically low) minimum based on the scant evidence so far.

 

The core intent of my post, however, was to suggest that people manage their expectations. It's very easy to get carried away with wish-listing when a teaser is so vague. More and lots would be great for Space Wolves players, of course, but all we know (think?) at this point is that there's something for the Space Wolves coming. Beyond that, we just don't know. Okay, some of us might know, but that is a select few that get intelligence outside the reach of us mere mortals.

 

Personally, I'd like to see Primarisized Wolf Guard (TDA and power armour) and proper Primaris Wolf Scouts. And a generic Wolf Lord. And another named Primaris character (I favor new ones, but GW seems intent on seeing just about every named firstborn character survive the Rubicon Primaris). I'm not sure how that stacks up to what the Blood Angels got in their release, but I hope to see something roughly commensurate with that. But the Space Wolves might get less.

 

Remember, hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I'd love to see Wolf Scout models in Scout Armour.

 

The metal Wolf Scouts were cool (and I've a load somewhere) and the unit felt special being able to take Power Weapons and Plasma Pistols on regular Squad members.

 

Plus that piece of art with a Wolf Scout with Shotgun is one of my favourite GW pieces.

God me too. Back in the day they were second place to BA for me, but then they became too close to being furries to take them seriously any more.

To be fair, valrak has been sharing rumours he was given about the SW refresh for a while and if I recall, they're on the same level as the BA/DA ones we've already had (BT might be the ones to only get one model this time...unless I've missed anything).

I really don't like the current models, I think they look daft, and not in the "good" 40k way. A scale change, and some more obvious cybernetics on the mounts might make me reconsider.

Yeah, thunder wolf cavalry is the sort of thing that turned me away from any interest in SW them, and the floating sleigh.

I wouldn't miss Thunderwolf cavalry (and a lot of Space Wolf stuff from that era; the flying shipping container, the perfectly good Logan Grimnar bundled with that atrocious sleigh, the Wulfen etc) if they vanished, honestly. Though GW being GW they'll find a way to make whatever they come out with next be much worse. I've heard it suggested on this forum that Logan is getting a new model on a 60mm base with two wolves by his side, for instance; why not just put him on a 40mm as the Allfather intended and give his wolves separate bases? Why must every HQ model be standing on a mini-diorama that's completely impractical for gaming?

Because the community started putting their HQs on cork on their bases to stand out, so they’re doing that for us
