would be easy for an upgrade sprue to cover, like how the Black Templar covered Initiate shotguns or the Dark Angels one covered Plasma cannon Termies. Slip a pyreblaster and a plasma incinerator in there. or a new fandangled helfrost blaster, lol.

Man the new EC tormentors/infractors dual kit got my hopes up that GW would carry that idea to the blood claws and grey hunters. Seems like it’s probably not going to be the case. Hopefully the upgrade sprue has some meat to it

I’m a little torn—I WANT battleline units with artificer armor, but I worry that a kit like that will mean heavy restrictions on what Wolves can access from the basic Marine units. I don’t know how they’re going to strike a balance between traditional Space Wolves units and Primaris units—will Blood Claws, Grey Hunters, and Long Fangs be reduced to just paint jobs now? Or will we get bespoke units and get locked out of X% of the basic Space Marine codex?

I’ve been an advocate for Paint Job Units (Hounds of Morkai for example) for codex compliant First Founding/ancient-in-lore chapters (I think it would go a long way to making RG/WS/IH/etc distinct again) but it’s going to be a bummer if Wolves will have to give up our runes and trade them in for off-rack basic-aquila armor.

Of the three, I think Long Fangs are by far the most under threat until we get primaris devastators, at least we can create something that looks the part for the other two from existing primaris kits.

Right—can’t help but wonder if BC/GH will be dual-kit Intercessors with an upgrade sprue, and if Long Fangs won’t be a 3-man Gravis laser/rocket or laser/grav unit or something with an upgrade sprue. The optimistic side of me hopes that approach means we’ll still have wide access to basic SM units. Glad I stopped buying/building Marines while we wait, though.

Unless I'm mistaken, so far no SM supplements has ever lost access to regular SM units, even if there is a direct upgrade to it (so in a dark angels force you could take normal Terminators, deathwing Terminators and deathwing knights). Only reason chaos are having that issue is because they are all full codexs instead of just being supplements (feels like they should have been to be fair)

I’m thinking of how we had access to Biologis for a few months before they clawed it back. Weren’t Wolves forbidden from using Tac Squads and Devs in 9th, too?

That’s what I assumed it would be when Jervis initially talked about primaris designed in like 2017. But that was a long time ago. I’m disappointed that we waited so long and it may just be an extra sprue for our battle-line infantry units that have defined the faction for so long. At least all the intercessor models I’ve collected will still have a use. Unless the rules are meh. I expect blood claws to be the same or maybe one additional attack. I expect grey hunters to be the same but the AP buff on their ranged weapons. So in short: grey hunters less good than their vanilla counterpart.

 

These are just rumors but I’m glad to start getting some clarity on what to expect.

Interesting were SW the only ones to do this? I've got access to BA and DA and there doesn't appear to be any limitations. Any BT players here to weigh in on their side of things?

In 9th, no. In editions prior (I mostly skipped 8th, but at least in 7th), the specialist chapters were locked out of certain units. I wasn't able to field Centurions, for example, as a BA player, in 7th (if my ailing memory is still any bit worthwhile). 

 

Of course, in 7th it was a full codex as opposed to how 9/10 are doing it as codex supplements.

Where is the rumour of a new Intercessors sprue coming from? I am assuming Grey Hunters will be Intercessors + sprue upgrades and Blood Claws will be Assault Intercessors + sprue upgrades.

It was kicking around in one of the Space Marine 2nd Wave rumor threads. Might be able to go back and find it after the toddler gets to bed.

I too heard/read the rumor of potential new Intercessors with old marks of armor incorporated. I think it was later said it probably wasn’t happening. Could just be Mandela Effect. I’ll look around after I’m done watching Shazaam, featuring sinbad…

Only Chapters that limit what you can take are Space Wolves - Can't take apocs and Black Templars can't take librarians...

Russ is coming back with the Spear, but think more of Norse god returning from Valhalla, runes blazing in golden light across his armor, his golden locks smelling of John Paul Mitchell Double Hitter 2-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner. 
 

Smoking hot Valkyrie that would make Slaanesh’s beak drop in awe surround him as a retinue (Sisters of Battle Seraphim who have broken their vows to fangirl/finger twirl his beard lovingly and protectively).

I am torn on the Wolves Refresh. On one hand, there is a really exciting possibility of cool new models, fun sculpts, and maybe even a flavour change (like the 30k approach). On the other hand, I feel like a child who doesn't want to lose their favourite toys. I don't want to lose Bjorn / Murderfang, my TWC, and the super unique models that our army has. 

 

Sure, it's the march of progress towards GW's Size-Creep and manufacturing streamlining. But the anxiety for me is huge!
