Newbiticus
I am working on an army plan for a narrative escalation league in my local area but I am stuck on what detachment to field and keep flip flopping in my decision making. My group is generally pretty casual but there are a few tournament players. I expect lots of loyalist marines in a variety of flavours, Necrons, imperial guard. There will also likely be a few Tyranids and Orks. My group typically plays with non standard terrain layouts. My ultimate build will be; Termie Lord (with termies), Termie Sorcerer (solo), Lord (with Legos), 10 x Termies, 2 x 5 Legos, 2 x 5 Plague Marines, 2 x 10 Cultistis, 5 Raptors, 5 Warp Talons, Destructor, Land Raider, Vindicator, Rhino, Nurglings. I have played a handful of games with Fellhammer but not much else. I feel that Raiders would require a more aggressive list than I plan to field to make full benefit of the rules suite and that Vets might be better suited for a more shooty list (but I like the Strats). I adore the theme of Fellhammer (I play IW) but I sometimes miss the damage boost of the other detachments. I am not really interested in Pack Bound. Can anyone offer a suggestion? I could drop the Land Raider for a Rhino and a unit of Obliterators. Dr_Ruminahui Posted yesterday at 12:57 AM Share Posted yesterday at 12:57 AM It sounds like you have a pretty good handle on what each detachment brings to the table and the strengths and weaknesses of them all. Personally, I think Pack Bound and Raiders are the most powerful, with Raiders being the easier of the two in terms of game prep and keeping track of things, as no need to worry about what mark goes where. Personally, I think the raiders army rules are strong even if not playing into the mobility aspect - having assault is always useful, but its the better AP against units holding objectives that will always be useful in helping win games. As well, while the various movement related stratagems are nice, they are kind of situational and the detachment plays fine without using them. Tallarn Commander
I would also recommend Raiders. Many of the Raider buffs also favor a more cagey, less aggressive style of play. For example, your vehicles would be able to advance and shoot. But the detachments are all fairly well designed so you could do well with most of them other than the Cultist, Alpha Legion, and Night Lords detachments.
