What Armies/Detachments are you interested in trying that you haven't gotten to yet?

Recommended Posts

With 40k having so many armies/detachments and many reasons why we can't play everything, I wanted to know what kind of detachments have struck your fancy that you haven't had a chance, for whatever reason, to try out yet. For me while I usually play a bit of everything, I've been so focused on tightening up my competitive Kroot game, that I've neglected a few of my other armies that look like a lot of fun.

1. The Final Day: The new GSC detachment looks great, finally properly souping in Tyranids with them and giving them some neat work together rules. Vanguard detachment has been the one I've most looked forward to trying with Tyranids anyway, so mixing them in with GSC (another army I haven't had much chance to play this edition) seems like it will be a lot of fun. Brining Winged Hive Tryants and Trygons into a GSC list looks like it will give it a lot more punch and the ability to heal them by eating your GSC units is just so cool and flavourful.

2. Imperialis Fleet: I actually had been working on an Agents army even before we got the codex, and while I was sad to see the Inquisitorial Agents get the nerf hammer with the new dex, it's still looks like a fun army. I'm planning to bring out my Knight Castellan to cover the lack of anti-tank in the list. This WOULD have been Veiled Blade instead, but they didn't do the one obvious thing in the Assassins' detachment and remove Epic Hero from the Assassins' datasheet, so I still can't play oops all assassins anymore like I could in 9th. T.T

3. Librarius Conclave: I run my own custom SM chapter and I've always had to run Grey Knight rules to represent my Psyker heavy 5th company, but now we've finally got a SM Psyker based detachment, and on that principle alone, I'm excited to give this a whirl. I don't know or care how strong it is, I just like that it exists.

4. Scintillating Legion: I've been toying with the idea of getting into Tzeentch daemons for a while now, and this might have just pushed me over the edge. It looks like wild fun that will make my brain hurt trying to figure out the best way to use it and I'm all for it. Love to see more detachments like this.

5. Null Maiden Vigil: While the detachment does seem pretty underpowered, I do like that it at least exists. The idea of just loading up your sisters into a bunch of Rhinos and shoving them up the board with mass flamers and swords while little 4 woman MSU units hold objectives and do actions. Between brining in my Knight Castellan and all the HK missiles the army would have, I don't even think it's anti-tank would be all that bad. It's just a matter of the model count of such niche units. I've been picking them up on the cheap second hand when I can, but I still have a ways to go.

HM: Annihilation Legion: I did play this a few times early in the edition, I love me some destroyers, but haven't had a chance to yet since the FAQ actually gave something to the ranged units. Looking forward to trying this out again soon.

Drukharis; I started mustering some models in order to poplate an Ynnari force, but I stored most of the sprues in a crate and they are still largely untouched yet. Depending on how Ynnari's fate is resolved in soon to come Aeldarii Codex they might perfectly end up as a small independant new army ...

Haven't had a chance to play since prior to Thanksgiving at this point so not only am I feeling quite rusty but also haven't had a chance to do any real playing with any of the Grotsmas stuff, just theory-ing with the hour or two here or there with the buddies over Discord.

It's probably going to be Bridgehead first, but I do want to try the BA detatchment as well.

There's a couple armies/detachments I've been wanting to play but haven't yet for various reasons:

  1. Tzeentch Daemons
I've been slowly building up a collection of these guys mostly intending to just Soup them with my TSons, but at some point I need to play a game using their Grotmas detachment (if only because they look set to cease being their own standalone army soon...)

  2. Librarius Conclave
This detachment really peaked by interest, but I simply don't have enough Librarians to do it justice at the moment. Hopefully I'll be able to once I've amassed a larger White Scars collection.

  3. Deathwatch
I was planning on getting into Deathwatch before their Index disappeared for a while and I've not really restarted by efforts to build up an army, tho I will do so at some point.

  4. Taktikal Brigade
I know someone with an Ork army I could borrow and I'd like to try taking this for a spin at some point.

I need to get around the Guard one of these days. Plans for 2025 include doing a lot of Old World Empire which puts that on hold, though, I can only do one human horde army at a time and remain sane.

I'm also slowly working my way up to a fully bike-and-tank Eldar army, at a pace that means I may just get a game in with them before 11th. Maybe. We'll see.

I’ll try the mechanized assault detachment sometime in the month following the full release of the codex.

Easy fix, do empire cavalry and war machines!

knights, demigryph knights, and artillery, and captain or elector count on griffon.

no longer horde and now you can do guard!

No I want to paint 60 state troops and two cannons, that's the whole point.

And then, a year or so from now, I'll paint 60 lasgun schmucks and a Leman Russ.

Deceptors looks like with a tank, some more legionaries and cultists and a bit of fire support, it cools be really good.  I think the trick is to bring Huron blackheart, then you can redeploy 3 if your units after your opponent has been forced to put everything out.

I never really played Thousand Sons (or a Mark of Tzeentch CSM Army back in the day), but I really like the models and would love to try them out. I like their sorcery mechanics. It reads like real psychic abilities instead of just a keyword on some attacks or abilities.
