GreenWolf
Hello! I just got the new Combat Patrol with Tyranids from a friend. I also got another Winged Tyranid Prime. So right now my little army looks like this: 2x Winged Tyranid Prime- 1x Psychophage- 3x Von Ryan's Leapers- 5x Barbgaunts- 20x Termagants, armed with fleshborers- 2x Ripper Swarms Me and my friends play mostly 1250 p matches. So my question to you guys is what figures should I get to get up to 1250 points? TheNicronomicon
Hello! Good advice is gonna depend on what you wanna do. Do you know what playstyle you like? If you have the codex, which detachment is the most appealing? Starting out your best bet is to identify how you like to approach the game and build from there. I’d hate to suggest a bunch of big bugs if you like the idea of playing a swarm, for example. And I wouldn’t want to analyze a playing-for-fun list like you’re about to take it to a competitive tournament or something. Thank you for your answer!Obviously, I should have written a little more about what type of army I want to play. Usually I play Space Wolves but while waiting for their update and I'm quite tired of painting everything in greyscale, I want a colorful army :). What I'm looking for is to play more with bigger bugs. I don't intend to play it competitively, but rather have fun with my friends. In competitive tournaments, I run with Space Wolves. So what more big monsters should I get to get up to 1250 points? Focslain
For big bugs, the ones that come to mind if your attaching these to the CP is the Tervigon, Tyrannofex, and Exocrine. Tyrannofex is for AT, the Exocrine for anti-MEQ, the Tervigon for supporting the termaguants (gives lethal and can regen D3+3 models a turn, plus synapse) I'd also a a squad of warriors for each of your Primes. Normally would suggest gargoyles, but your going for big bugs not swarms After that I'd go either with a second pychophage or a carnifex. This will still give you some room for a enhancement or two depending on which detachment you take. Solution TheNicronomicon Posted January 24 Solution Share Posted January 24 Fenrys Hjoda, Brüder! Space Wolves are also *my* favorite faction, but I love my horrible hungry space bugs too. The elite bugs that are worth looking at: - Zoanthropes: Powerful shooting, especially if you ever get your hands on a neurotyrant to lead them. A great choice of unit to get healed every turn in Assimilation Swarm and go well into almost every Tyranid list. I'd go for a unit of 6. - Raveners: They're a sneaky unit with a built-in uppy-downy mechanism. Great for scoring. 1x unit of 3 is probably all you need. - Melee Tyranid Warriors: Great with a Prime leading them. Last dataslate improved +1S on their melee weapons when they're in synapse range...and they're always in synapse range. Also a great choice in Assimilation Swarm and thanks to keyword shenanigans they become Vanguard units with a Winged Prime leading them. I'd go for 6 here too For bigger bugs... - Hive Tyrant: A walking Tyrant is a great HQ choice and force multiplier. If you look on Etsy you can find printed Tyrant torsos, which enable you to build a Winged Hive Tyrant AND a walking Tyrant with the same kit. Worth magnetizing too - Exocrine: BUG GUN! GUN BUG! They're tough, powerful, and points-efficient. Expensive in real dollarbucks, though. Probably the best of the Tyranid ranged attacks. You can magnetize the head if you also want to run... - Haruspex: Blenderface bugs with tough shells. Also points-efficient. Fantastic in Assimilation Swarm! - Psychophage: Cheap little tank bug, and still pretty cheap on eBay in the US. Fantastic cog in the Assimilation Swarm machine, but tough enough to go into any list - Maleceptor: Another one you'll see 3x of in competitive lists thanks to some great abilities & stats. - Tyannofex: One of the most powerful anti-tank guns in the game, and just a nasty bugger to try to remove. The rupture cannon is probably the best option but I've seen some people running the acid spray, and that looks pretty fun tbh. Worth trying to magnetize the arms but it also looks really annoying to do - Trygon: A Deep Strike big bug! Last I checked they were sold out, but it's a cool-looking model - Neurotyrant: A big brain bug that can lead a unit of Zoanthropes, and really improves their shooting. Also worth looking for on eBay thanks to Leviathan. Carnifexes are a classic, but it's an older kit. Screamer-killers are dope models who are maybe just a few points too high, but I enjoy putting them on the table even though they're not always a "competitive" pick. And for your Battleline... - Termagants: They're fine. If you like the idea of carpeting the table with bugs they're a must. Pair 2-3 units with a Tervigon for regenerating bug nonsense. - Hormagaunts: They're a great tarpit and fast as hell, too. Great unit for scoring but you might prefer... - Gargoyles: Deep Striking super-fast flying nuisances. Action monkeys & objective-stealers. As for your list.... The trouble with the Combat Patrol is that while all the models are decent, and all of the units are GREAT in some detachments, they don't all work together in every detachment. That said, I might look at something like this, running Assimilation Swarm: AssSwarm (1250 Points) Tyranids Invasion Fleet Strike Force (2000 Points) CHARACTERS Winged Tyranid Prime (65 Points) • 1x Prime talons • Warlord Winged Tyranid Prime (65 Points) • 1x Prime talons BATTLELINE Termagants (60 Points) • 10x Termagant ◦ 10x Chitinous claws and teeth ◦ 10x Fleshborer Termagants (60 Points) • 10x Termagant ◦ 10x Chitinous claws and teeth ◦ 10x Fleshborer OTHER DATASHEETS Barbgaunts (55 Points) • 5x Barbgaunt ◦ 5x Barblauncher ◦ 5x Chitinous claws and teeth Haruspex (125 Points) • 1x Grasping tongue • 1x Ravenous maw • 1x Shovelling claws Psychophage (95 Points) • 1x Psychoclastic torrent • 1x Talons and betentacled maw Psychophage (95 Points) • 1x Psychoclastic torrent • 1x Talons and betentacled maw Psychophage (95 Points) • 1x Psychoclastic torrent • 1x Talons and betentacled maw Raveners (75 Points) • 3x Ravener ◦ 3x Ravener claws and talons ◦ 3x Thoracic bio-weapon Ripper Swarms (25 Points) • 1x Chitinous claws and teeth Ripper Swarms (25 Points) • 1x Chitinous claws and teeth Tyranid Warriors with Melee Bio-weapons (75 Points) • 1x Tyranid Prime ◦ 1x Tyranid Warrior claws and talons • 2x Tyranid Warrior ◦ 2x Tyranid Warrior claws and talons Tyranid Warriors with Melee Bio-weapons (75 Points) • 1x Tyranid Prime ◦ 1x Tyranid Warrior claws and talons • 2x Tyranid Warrior ◦ 2x Tyranid Warrior claws and talons Tyrannofex (190 Points) • 1x Fleshborer hive • 1x Powerful limbs • 1x Stinger salvoes Von Ryan’s Leapers (70 Points) • 3x Von Ryan’s Leaper ◦ 3x Leaper’s talons Exported with App Version: v1.26.0 (2), Data Version: v541 Let the Primes lead the Warrior squads. The Rippers, Psychophages, and Haruspex hand out healing every turn. They can heal themselves too so you can get aggressive with the Haruspex or phages if you like. Your termies can go after objectives or actions, or they can be tarpits as you require. Barbgaunts can support the smaller units' advance or help defend your flanks or the backfield. The Raveners steal objectives, the Leapers protect your backfield or go after enemy leaders. The Fex is there to delete anything too big or tough for the rest of your swarm to chomp through or tarpit. If you wanted to remove something to buy Enhancements, I'd scrap one of your primes and make the Warrior brick 6 strong. Hope this helps!
