INKS
So, very recently I have discovered I just can't paint a normal sized model any longer. it's too small, too hard to see. I am thinking, and as suggested maybe big ol crusher stampede, or all large monsters. does this list work? what in the list doesn't work? why doesn't it work? what is a better fit. looking for advice on the list, keeping in mind, model wise I am looking for larger models. There are some lictors here, I think they are large enough. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + FACTION KEYWORD: Xenos - Tyranids + DETACHMENT: Crusher Stampede + TOTAL ARMY POINTS: 1990pts + + WARLORD: Char1: The Swarmlord + ENHANCEMENT: + NUMBER OF UNITS: 12 + SECONDARY: - Bring It Down: (4x2) + (5x4) - Assassination: 3 Characters +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Char1: 1x The Swarmlord : Warlord, Bone Sabres, Synaptic Pulse Char2: 1x Broodlord: Broodlord Claws and Talons Char3: 1x Broodlord : Broodlord Claws and Talons 1x Lictor : Lictor Claws and Talons 1x Exocrine : Bio-plasmic Cannon, Powerful Limbs 1x Exocrine : Bio-plasmic Cannon, Powerful Limbs 1x Maleceptor : Massive Scything Talons, Psychic Overload 1x Norn Emissary : Monstrous rending claws, Monstrous scything talons, Psychic tendril 1x Norn Emissary : Monstrous rending claws, Monstrous scything talons, Psychic tendril 1x Tyrannofex : Powerful Limbs, Stinger Salvoes, Rupture Cannon 1x Tyrannofex : Powerful Limbs, Stinger Salvoes, Rupture Cannon 1x Tyrannofex : Powerful Limbs, Stinger Salvoes, Rupture Cannon this is 1990 points currently Tawnis and TheNicronomicon 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385152-big-models/ Share on other sites
Tawnis
The Lictors should be big enough they are decent sized since the got re-made. However, they don't work too much into the big stuff crusher stampede theme. Personally, I don't think the Broodlords are that good solo, they are quite squishy and don't have lone operative. I personally really like to run Old One Eye with a pair of Carnifex, they hit hard, surge move when attacked, and get stronger after the first one dies. However, they are pretty old kits, so I can understand not wanting to invest in them. One cheeky thing you can do in the list, if you run a Neurotyrant with Zoanthropes, it gives them the Monstrous Creature keyword which lets them benefit from the detachement rule. While the Neurotyrants rule is mostly redundant with the detachment one, you still get the benefit of the monster strats like Swarm Guided Salvos to give them ignore cover and other modifiers. Also Psychophages are a pretty good edition to the list as at only 95pts they are cheap, durable, and provide a 6" 6+ FNP aura. INKS
How do you arm the Carnafex's I did look at them, I just didn't know how to use them. I have heard today that Psychophages are good for objectives and secondary and are durable, so that is something to consider. I have already dropped the broodlords, work better when with genestealers and as much as I love genestealers they are likely just too small for me. TheNicronomicon
If you can, magnetizing your carnifex is the way to go. They have SO MANY options and magnetizing gives you so much flexibility. Building them depends a lot on the rest of your list. They can be the classic Distraction Carnifex (when they get wounded by ranged attack they can make a d6+2 move with some caveats) or they can shore up some weak spots in your list. The basic double scything talons build is pretty great all by itself as they’re S10 while in Synapse range, or the crushing claws can give you more AT melee. Their shooting is Perfectly Fine I guess but doesn’t complement their Blistering Assault rule. Personally I would build the pair of them with the scything talons and use them to draw as much fire as possible so the rest of my big bugs have more time to maneuver. The opponent can shoot the carnifexes or let them march right into melee range if they try shooting your maleceptor or something else. Have you considered pyrovores/biovores? They’re on bigger bases but aren’t, I think, keyworded as Monsters. They’re low in points but could help you put more bodies on the table and perform actions etc for you. If 40mm-based models aren’t too small for you then zoanthropes or warriors could be a good addition as well. Both are Synapse units; Warriors are decent and zoanthropes are *excellent.* Venomthropes are ok too—they give Benefit of Cover to anything around them so they’re good floating behind your carnifex brood or protecting bugs in your back line. Could also use Raveners with their uppy-downy Ability to steal objectives. INKS
magnetizing is a problem sadly. I have tried in the past and it just doesn't go well, I end up messing the model up. It's one of the reasons that I wanted to do knight but kinda gave up on it because you really should and need to magnetize. so I am not so sure about all that. Thank you for the advice, I think I would make them like you said with the talons. I have considered pyro and biovores. they are on a possible list. The 40mm models really depends on the model. Zoanthropes might be ok because they are just long wurm like things. And warriors might be large enough. really wish they would update warriors, but that is another topic. Raveners might also be ok, / large enough.
