Galron
Is there a rule somewhere that says you cant shoot overwatch at something if you are a vehicle or monster and are engaged in close combat? I cant find anything, but I have seen several TableTop Titans episodes where they specifically mention this on their live stream and it has come up in games in the past or like today when I charged a ghost keel with a raider and incubi. Dr_Ruminahui
You can't - Big Guns Never Tire only applies in the Shooting phase. That was "clarified" in the FAQ section of the Rules Commentary - its at page 12. Not the conclusion I would have come to based on the rules without the explanation, but BGNT is strong enough, IMHO, without it also allowing overwatch. m-p-constructions, Xenith, Emperor Ming and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385166-overwatch-while-engaged-in-combat/#findComment-6090489 Share on other sites
DemonGSides
Yeah Big Guns Never Tire specifically mentions that it only works in the shooting phase. If you're searching the app, look for "Out of phase rules". m-p-constructions
The Out of Phase Rule is one of the most unintuitive rules in the game in my opinion. You really have to wrap your head arround it to internalise the mechanic. I am reading different forums existing worldwide and the most questions repeatedly posted refer to OoP. I hope to the next edition will come up with somthing to iron this out. Darwhine
Hello, I am taking advantage of the subject to ask the question: is it possible to overwatch after an enemy unit has finished its charge or does it have to be done at the declaration and before the movement of the models? If it is possible to overwatch at the end of a charge movement, is it possible for me to overwatch with pistols a unit that has just charged one of my units? Dr_Ruminahui
Yes, as per the overwatch stratagem on page 42 of the Core Rules, it can be used on one unit of yours that would be eligible to shoot in the shooting phase, at one enemy unit at the start or end of a Normal, Advance, Fall Back or Charge move. My struck out answer was wrong due to changes in Balance Dataslate - see below for the correct answer - thanks for the correction, @Darwhine. Darwhine
I did some research and apparently there were changes in the latest dataslate: you can only overwatch in the charge phase at the charge declaration. You can no longer overwatch after the charge move. Quote WHEN: Your opponent’s Movement or Charge phase, just after an enemy unit is set up or when an enemy unit starts or ends a Normal, Advance or Fall Back move, or declares a charge.TARGET: One unit from your army that is within 24" of that enemy unit and that would be eligible to shoot if it were your Shooting phase.EFFECT: If that enemy unit is visible to your unit, your unit can shoot that enemy unit as if it were your Shooting phase.RESTRICTIONS: You cannot target a TITANIC unit with this Stratagem. Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit makes a ranged attack, an unmodified Hit roll of 6 is required to score a hit, irrespective of the attacking weapon’s Ballistic Skill or any modifiers. You can only use this Stratagem once per turn.
