This will likely just be a vanity thread, but I just wanted to show off my first fully painted & assembled mini, which is one of the Thunderwolves. Apologies for the bad photo quality as I took the pics with my iPhone.

The coloring is very basic, no real shades or layers, just Corax White for the fur, Leadbelcher for the mechanical parts, Abaddon Black for the claws, nose & foot pads, Mephiston Red for the tongue & cybernetic eye, Wraithbone for the teeth & Tuskgor Fur for the saddle. I have yet to paint the riders as I haven’t fully committed to a color scheme (I have been very focused on my Ordo Celestia project), but I do plan on painting the other wolves & the riders at some point. Anyway, let me know what y’all think & any suggestions & feedback is greatly appreciated & as always thank you & God bless.

Looks good for a first go

For what it's worth, it looks like your camera was insisting on focussing on the table - maybe the model was inside the minimum focussing distance? It might be worth having the phone a bit further away, and then cropping the image down to just the model?

Yep, took my way too long to realize this. You have to be at least a foot away in a lot of cases.

Also, a very easy way to add contrast would be to wash the whole model with Agrax Earthshade and then just carefully and lightly drybrush back up each surface with the original color.

The base colors are neatly painted, and it is a little scary at first to start taking on extra stages at first, but a simple wash/drybrush will both blend and provide contrast to the base layers.

Finished another mini, this time it’s Kaldor Draigo.

…or at least that’s who the base model is. This time around I experimented with layering over bases & small detailing. His armor is Auric Armour Gold layered over Balthasar Gold & I’m really happy with how it turned out. His sword is Fenrisian Grey layered over Leadbelcher & his gun is Thunderhawk Blue over Leadbelcher.  I tried layering Thunderhawk over Leadbelcher for the sword, but I didn’t like it, so I layered Fenrisian over it & liked it less, so I painted over it with Leadbelcher then layered it with Fenrisian. I also put magnets in his head & neck so I can switch heads, but I currently don’t have any alternate heads I like yet.

Looking good, definitely better than my first! Keep up the good work, as long as you keep painting stuff and enjoying it, you'll be amazed at what you can do after a bit.

That wolf looks cracking for a first miniature, nice job! I think the others are right about the camera being a bit too close to the model. It took me ages to start getting semi-decent photos.

Nice work on Draigo too, if I may offer a suggestion, it would be to do a blue filter over the gold (I typically use the Guilliman Blue shade, but I see that it's no longer produced). Blue can make the shine a bit less raw and give the metal a more aged look. Alternatively a red or purple filter can make it look more warm which would work well with robes of similar colours. Metallic paints can be filtered  and washed to create nice effects really easily, making them my favourite to work with.

I’m back & I’ve not only completed some more minis, but I’ve also based some too!

I’ve completed a terminator as an apothecary! I kinda like how this guy turned out. I actually will need to post another picture of this guy, as I glued his shoulder shield on. I still want to add some detailing to him as well as put a Red Cross on his shoulder shield to indicate him as a medic. I also replaced to skull on his staff with a cross & I really like how it turned out!

I colored another wolf & based it. It was supposed to be brown, but it came out looking like Red XIII from FF7… not that I’m complaining. Since it was balancing on one foot I glued some small rocks to one of its rear feet to give it another sticking point.

I based my white wolf. Like the red wolf, I glued a rock under one of its feet to give a sticking point & also put a daemon skull under its cybernetic leg which I think adds some cool flair.

I’ve also based (mostly) finished my Kill Team, but I’ll show off those guys in my Kill Team post… eventually…

They're nice and neat.

What are you using on the base? It looks like some kind of mat?

I bought a grass mat at Hobby Lobby. I glue the empty bases to the mat & use my xacto blade to cut them out. It’s not 100% perfect, but it works pretty well.

As promised I’m posting images of my apothecary with his shoulder shield, plus I took an extra to show off his syringe/saw attachment & the little screen. Honestly I’m quite proud with how he turned out. I just need to put a Red Cross on his shoulder shield. I tried painting one on, but I didn’t like how it turned out, so I’m thinking I’ll just get a sticker or something to put on.

A chaplain I bought. Crappy finecast, but the price was decent. I think he turned out ok. Probably never gonna use this guy, especially since I bought a couple better ones, but I figured I’d paint him & put him together since I have him.

Always good to see new people building and painting. I recommend using a spray can to prime/undercoat your models, it helps to get a smooth finish.

I’d also look at contrast paints, they’re excellent and easy to use

keep up the good work!

I haven’t yet finished another full mini, I’m currently working on making the leaders of my Strike Squad & my Paladin squad, but I wanted to show off the head that I painted:

IMG_2416.jpeg.1e93901284da5c6a93ffe9ee9a2ebbf7.jpeg

I bought this off Etsy, along with several others, & painted it to look like me. Of course it doesn’t look EXACTLY like me, but it’s the one that I thought looks closest to me. Apart from a few details, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I may try to do more detailing to fix stuff like the unibrow, but for now I think it’s not half bad. Soon as I’m done painting the leaders I’ll post ‘em.

IMG_2420.thumb.jpeg.45d3439d436ac034e0ceeb4d4212e83e.jpeg

Finally completed another mini, this time it’s the strike squad leader. I’ve decided that gold armor & purple cloth is going to be the colors of my chapter. I haven’t fully settled on a name, but for now I am calling them the Auric Knights of Ordo Celestia (hopefully I can come up with a better name). I plan on adding a cape to him later when they arrive (I bought a bunch on Etsy), but for now he is completed. I’m not sure if it’s lore accurate, but I feel like daemon’s blood should be black so that’s how I painted it.

More to come (hopefully) soon!

I have painted & assembled my Sisters of Silence leader. Of all my minis, she is the only one (so far) who has no magnetic joints apart from her head, as she really doesn’t have any alternative assembly options. I also gave her the more traditional “Ordo Celestia” colors, giving her royal purple (Naggaroth/Xereus) cloth as opposed to the inquisition red cloth since I don’t think she’s going to be a regular member of Matthias’s retinue (not that I know when else I’m going to be able to field SoS, but whatever). The face looks way better at a distance & I will say that assembling her sword arm was an absolute nightmare! Why did they think it was a good idea to print her sword & arm separately the way that they did is beyond ridiculous, but I finally managed to make it stable. Anyway, I haven’t been completing many of my minis as I’ve more or less been focusing on magnetizing joints first so that they’re as customizable as possible & it’s been slow going, but I am making some headway. Maybe I’ll post some of the magnetized joints to show off, but that’s all for now. Again, feedback is appreciated, thank you very much & as always, God bless!

I finally got my avatar character completed, or at least good enough to show off. I’m still waiting for some capes to arrive, I do want to do more detailing, I plan to paint a helmet for him as well as put something on his shoulder shield, but overall I’m pretty satisfied with how it turned out. I’ve based & painted the legs for the other paladins as well, but mostly I’ve been focusing on magnetizing pieces. There are magnets in pretty much every part of him, except for the shoulder pads & shoulder shield. I do want to make the shoulder pads interchangeable so I can swap his arms without swapping pads, but I’m not sure how I would even do that…

Anyway, feedback is appreciated, thank you very much for your time & as always, God bless!
