[Just to be clear I saw this pasted in a Discord server I'm part of, may or may not be accurate]

Never mind. It's real. Sweet Throne.

Well, I hope you weren't planning on using any AOS parts in your 40K AoP entry...

Thats.. quite ridiculous.

Every time I type some reaction here I delete it as it is hard to find words for the incredible stupidity of this. And thats coming from usual "see the good side" me...

edit :

All I can say that if I was a participant, out of protest I would make the absolute most ridiculous conversions from the things that are allowed.

Custodes with tyranid warrior arms ( and each finger replaced with gaunt arms), and Legion imperialis tanks for heads or something like that. Then next to it have a unit that only uses some head swaps and tiny bits that make it a coherent 40k vibed conversion.

With a note : "one of these is completely unacceptable for GW.. guess wich"

So on one hand (please no pitchforks and torches)

I get it. Like Golden Demon entries having to conform to the IP, that's what they're doing here. If anyone thinks they have gone to advertising/covering AoP so much in the recent years for anything other than sales and advertisement (i.e. "look at what you can do if you buy our product) then I have a Golden Throne to sell you, complete with corpse Emperor

On the other hand

This is garbage. Armies on Parade was made to be an event to celebrate YOUR army/faction/whatever that YOU created, not to make you conform to whatever random nonsense GW wants to put in a rules section that didn't even exist last year beyond the standard measurements for your board

Corporations going to corporate. This is why Horus turned traitor, etc.

It's universes, so there's nothing to stop you using Legiones Imperialis (or even Battlefleet Gothic).

I reckon it's something to do with the licensing deal from Amazon and marketing etc.

I’m fairly sure their own guidelines on how to make various different Imperial Guard regiments included precise information on which bits they’d borrowed from AoS a couple of years ago.

What absolutely nonsense

Yeah. Kitbashing 40k and Fantasy to make unique IG armies has been a thing forever and GW has even featured them in their own official material.

Case in point:

...hey, what if this is just a way to get back at Chris Peach for quitting?? Dang it, James!

Yeah, this is insane. GW own all of the IP. It's not like the long-term ban on using LotR/Middle Earth parts in conversions for official GW events and contests.

Can't fathom what the rationale behind this is. Baffling.

Maybe GW has started suing itself internally for IP infringement?

The internal war between the design team finally reaches its boiling point.

GW cop an ungodly amount of often unfair criticism for many reasons...and then they occasionally turn around and do something like this. What a bizarre, stupid decision

They cop a lot of well-justified criticism as well, without a doubt (I'm from Australia...), but I had people losing their marbles over slight tweaks to various models in mind. Love or hate GW but everything they do prompts a lot of hot takes. I'm not sure why my post prompted the juvenile 'LMAO' response but you do you

Ridiculous. I could understand a policy against 3rd party parts but forbidding swapping bits amongst though own game systems is just silly. I wonder how strictly it will be enforced when it comes to the in-store submissions, if local managers just "won't notice" bits from different settings.

I imagine there are a lot of cool Inquisitor/Rogue trader conversions that are going to be invalidated by this. What a short-sighted decision to take. It's not as stupid as the complete segregation between Horus Heresy and 40k model ranges, but it's close.
