wecanhaveallthree
Quote Cawl eats dirt right before his big success I've said it a zillion times, but what makes Genefather work so well is Cawl losing the conflicts within the book (for the most part even his victories are pyrrhic). Trying, failing but strengthening one's beliefs and bonds is like literary crack. Juxtaposing it with Bile, a guy who is WHAT PRICE VICTORY personified, only makes it that much better. They're enjoyable enough but not in the same league as some of the real "classics" of Black Library. I like Guy Haley as an author because he doesn't seem too afraid of taking on interesting concepts and running with them. It would be "easy" (as much as it can be, I guess) to just write straight bolter porn to pay the bills, but books like Genefather and The Great Work are definitely not by the numbers plotlines. I would like to see more creativity within Black Library, as it leads to more creativity within the setting.
