Greetings.

I am relatively new to 10th and Necrons in general after a bad experience with necrons in 3rd edition.  Anyway been trying to figure out everything. Sometimes the naming of things mess me up.

My goal with Necrons is to primarily play with them in narrative events. Single or doubles. I recently attended the LVO narrative doubles with a friend.  Where we ended up being highly dissatisfied with using Space Marines and myself as Sisters of Battle.

I still need to name my Dynasty. Have a narrative theme to work with my friend as single lists or a theme. The idea is fighting between orks and tyranids woke up a sleeping Tomb World and my to be named Dynasty has found a way to control tyranid synapse creatures with scarabs. Our theme is essentially old man angry murder robots with attack bugs.

In return of me painting everything to a high standard my friend has managed to acquire a laege force of necrons. Some we are waiting for to be back in stock.

The list so far.

2x overlords (don't know what gear) unassembled
2x technomancer
3x plasmamancer
2x skorpek lords
4x thralls

20x immortals with carbines
10x deathmarks
1 box of immortals
15x tomb blades with particle caster
1 box of warriors
2x tomb sentinel
6x wraith
1 box of obydian destroyers
15 skorpek destroyers
1x heavy locust destroyer
2x tomb sypder
3x triach stalker (waiting for these in the mail)
1x old school monolith
3x cantopek doomstalker
2x reanimator
10x flayed ones

A lot of this got picked up at LVO,  someones collection and the combat patrol and immortals box as a Christmas present.

Hi Brother Sume, that's an impressive array of stuff, so I'll focus on what you're saying: getting started.

+++ Start Safely With 6 Wraiths + 1 Technomancer +++

6 Wraiths + 1 Technomancer has been a meta choice for all of 10th and, even after multiple Balance Updates.

You basically have a blob of multi-wounded models that really benefit from a Feel No Pain save that also happen to move fast.  It combines the durability that make people want to play Necrons with good Toughness and Reanimation Protocols with lots of Wounds per model and FNP, while taking away the faction's weakness of slow speed since they move 10" and the Technomancer happens to be the 1 Character type that can keep pace.

This is a safe bet to start with so you can build and paint that while you consider the rest of your list.

+++ Then Stay Tuned with the Starshatter Arsenal Detachment +++

https://assets.warhammer-community.com/eng_warhammer40000_grotmas_detachment_necrons_starshatter_arsenal-vpegimzveh-svxbsjbvxi.pdf

So the holiday Grotmas season introduced that free Starshatter Arsenal Detachment and everyone's using it.

The Detachment Rule gives Necrons a +1 to Hit on enemies on Objectives...and Necron Vehicles the Assault Ability.  So very initially at 1st, we thought this was some gimmick Necron Vehicles a buff, but no, it's that +1 to Hit that's universally useful as 40k is ultimately an Objectives game.

I know this is very general, so all I'm doing is showing you the safe path of where people are going, while you're working on the Wraiths and the Technomancer, you can check out what people are putting in their Starshatter Arsenal Detachment.  You got so much stuff, this gives you some focus.

+++ Finally, for maybe a modeling/conversion opportunity, a Transcendant C'tan +++

Disclaimer: not sure what the rules for conversions are for the LVO narrative, etc., you know better than me.

I read and loved your theme.  I thought you might want a centrepiece model to represent it, a conversion of like some Synapse Creature with Scarabs plugged into its brain that's forcing it to direct the rest of the Tyranids, like that's how the Necrons are hacking their instincts.  Everyone proxies the Transcendant C'tan.

And by everyone, I mean even GW.  In the Necrons Codex, they use an Age of Sigmar model, Lady Olynder.  Even before that, my Warhammer Store manager was suggesting the same, and is now joking the Design team is just ripping off his idea:

I just stuck some Necron stuff on her base, painted her limbs metallic, was a quick conversion for a Call to Arms here.

Oh, it's also a really good unit, even after the points hike.  But mainly it's a good vessel for a really interesting conversion project, if such a thing is allowed in LVO.  I'm not saying I'm the expert, in fact, I'm saying YOU are the expert, you might have some really good ideas and this is the unit for some mindshackled Tyranid.

So in the spirit of helping you get started, 6 Wraiths + 1 Technomancer is the safe start, then start looking at what people are putting in their Starshatter Arsenals since you have all the models already, finally I just had this thought specific to your theme with a counts-as Transcendant C'tan conversion.

Hi there and thank you.  I normally play Sisters of Battle or Slaanesh demons.  Now I got this large lot of necrons and most of a compitive grey knight list now.  Missing a few 2 of the giant dreadnaught things but thats ready to go.

Me and my friend picked most of this while we were in Vegas.  Initially discounted the destroyers, heavy destroyers and triach stalkers as I thought annihilation legion be fun.  Then we saw that grotmas and was like oh, oh, oh my.  Still not sure what to get started with yet though.  I figured wraiths and I really like the tomb blades.  The lot we picked up had more.  Hence the large amount of them.

I am not to familiar honestly with the LVO.  As my first year,  I do know conversions are acceptable as long as same size etc of the model its replacing.  Yea, I am going to model all my friends synpase creatures with the scarabs to give the idea of a bio control.

We mostly want to play double narrative with these guys.  Which could lead to making the lists a little more hyper focused with the tyranids.  We currently got a snake like theme for tyranids and wanted to try to get as close to that with the necrons.

Anyways, I do look forward to painting this stuff and the tyranids.  As I paint to a high-quality level and my friend is going to be taking me to the narrative events.  Think next one we are looking at is Tacoma.  Only way I could ever pay him back for all these models and the trips themselves.

I forgot to add.  We decided on a team name for ourselves.  It's Next Level Gaming.  We are going to use the colors of black and gold for some bowler shirts. Its our old game stores name and colors.  Sadly we closed our doors due to the pandemic and unable to renegotiate the lease and get one of the small business loans since the banks prioritized the big business first.

As for a painting scheme.  I have settled on the idea of bronze for the main robot bodies. Purple glow for gauss, and turquoise for armor plates. Probally do guns in black and necron symbols gold or bronze.

The tyranids look we are still deciding but will at least follow the same basing set up and probably have tortoise and purple too.

Also, forget it's actually 12 wraiths. Friend ordered two more boxes. As we both love the look of them. The skorpek destroyers and flayed ones. Also the wraiths go well with the snake themed tyranids.

Oh man, I love the bowler shirts, and I'll tell you my biggest regret with these Necrons was to paint them generic gunmetal.

I drybrushed green on their gun arms like a green glow from their guns, but I wished I went with something like Bronze instead, like you.

I always try and challenge myself for new projects.  Turquoise is one of my favorite colors. Also I know purple looks amazing with it. I know gw sported that on one of the harlequin masques when they got a redo back in 2016 or so.

These will also be the first 2 armies I'll be at least learning to use a airbrush. Probally use it for priming and a base layer tell I get more comfortable with it.  One of the guys i commission paint for gifted me a whole airbrush kit as an investment for future projects. I only do local commissions for now

Bronze kinda spoke to me me. I mastered gold but bronze is not as common unless it is khorne. My orginal necrons back in 2003 were terrible.  I primed them black, dry brushed whatever leadbelcher was painted the symbols gold and pushed in the green rods. Dark angels green on two monoliths. Hated playing the army as I just didn't get the vibe. Sold it at a loss for tyranids that ended up sold too. Back then I sort of went through 40k armies every few months.  As I made 3 times the minimum wage and  had lots of disposable income. Then I found sisters of battle and wanted to learn how to actually paint like the box art.

Instead of the new monolith. I so plan to restore this 2nd hand one we found and make it stunning.  Something I definitely can do 22 years later. I also like the look.  I'll for sure have to get it on the proper flying stand size.

Oh yes ghost lady is something I been wanting to paint since she was revealed. Now I have a reason to get one.
