Valraks speculation was that it was a modern replacement for the land speeder storm. At least I think it was speculation on his part rather than a rumour he had heard specifically about it being scout-related.

I personally hope we don’t see a new drop pod - I don’t really see how much they could change to the classic model to warrant the significant price rise that’s sure to come. If this turned out to actually be a heresy dreadclaw on the other hand…..

They could make a new drop pod that looked exactly the same but actually went together correctly.

I still think it’s silly they did away with try old land speeder.  It was very popular.  Whenever it actually came back in stock it was back out within a day or two.  I love that model.

I really hope that the part about bringing back the classic armour patterns to a larger extent is true. Seeing those designs again with the Astartes Animation reminded me of how much of a cool iconic design they are compared to the Primaris versions. It was a baffling decision to get rid of a design style that had been established for decades, and what made it even more odd was how it's been so contrived that we even have warp entities updating their armour pattern for some reason, and what was meant to be relic gear replaced with Primaris as if that didn't matter.

If they're planning on revisiting intercessors with selected parts from older armour marks, I wonder if this is also the opportunity to also put in special and heavy weapon parts so that you can have intercessor tactical squads. That way you can retire the old tactical kit and all marines would just be marines again.

mkX is still my favourite mark of armour, followed by mk8 and mk4 in that order.

That said, I like the sternguard, getting more along those lines with some bits that are at least reminiscent of mk7 and mk6 will be cool. Plus stuff like bonding stud shoulders and/or legs here and there would also be cool.

I agree, I think it's the best way forward

A phobos transport stormspeeder would definitely get me to invest in more phobos units.

I’m a huge fan of stormspeeders and will have one of each some day.

Phobos units have Deep Strike,  Infiltrate and Scout between them. I am not sure that they need the mobility of a Transport.

I have four of the old Landspeeders. You always needed to use Greenstuff to fill the gaps.

Phobos need canyon terrain on the board. Lots of very large vertical, flat rock formations so that you can use your grapple hooks. Assault squads would also work well with such kind of terrain. It´s a terrain project of mine for the Summer of 2025.

It´s a scheme to get rid of old players. Later they decided they want them back when they released Horus Heresy. The same happened with the Old World. GW treated established factions like dirt and tried to force the new AoS armies down the consumer´s throat.

I would imagine the new one would be at least 1/3 bigger:tongue:

And more expensive. That´s why you need to quickly buy all the old ones out there.

Yeah, that fear of new model, new pricing, always sends future regret lurking.  I think I'm reaching far fetched here, but I wouldn't mind seeing a plastic dreadnought or dreadclaw drop pod - that would be a different matter.

Ngl I have very much come to believe that rules like scout, infiltrate, and deep strike are way too common.

that aside it just because they have pregame positioning abilities or abilities that allow them to position themselves mid game doesn’t mean they can’t benefit from a transport to get them around the table after their ability has been used.

I, for one, would love some new 40k scaled models in Mk. IV armour.
Personally, I think if the Old/"Classic" Armour marks are for 40k and not for some Badab War game using the HH2.0 ruleset, then this is probably what our "Tactical Intercessors" are going to end up as (and maybe what that Devastator Cherub wing in the Rumour engine is).

I doubt there's any intention to straight replace the Mk. X stuff since that's now what "Normal" Marine armour is, but I do think the massively positive reception of the Primaris Sternguard having some Older Mk. inspired bits have given GW the idea that they can finally update the last few Firstborn Marine units if they just give people the option to make them still look like non-Primaris Marines (even if they are just Primaris for all intents and purposes).

Please do not take the above as an invitation to argue about Firstborn vs Primaris in this thread.

My prediction is that they'll eventually reworked tacticals and intercessors into one kit - where there's an option for rifles or bolter and chainsword. Then they can have a selection of helm marks available, because it is the helmet that lets Mk.X down, it looks so good with a mk.VI or VII helm.

With how they set up terminators for bits and bobs they could really apply the same principle for regular power armour. Varied chests as long as they keep abdominal plates separate, tassets, shin guards, helmets, maybe optional vambraces like the new MkIII.

Downside would be that  you could easily have ten or more parts per marine. A dream for variety though.

Talking about a new/re-tooled Drop Pod and mixed armor mks for the marines gives me (probably misplaced) hope that GW may some day re-tool/update the Rhino and Land Raider. God, I love those kits!!

If they could do a modernized version of the 2nd edition razorback I would absolutely love that. The new razorback kit is so much worse.

I don’t have any information on this, other than that a prediction of some kind of new marine releases is always likely to be true. Characters with rules but no models make sense for GW to make.

The drop pod is a slightly funny one as it’s used in heresy, including having been duplicated for LI recently. So I imagine the current one will still be made for heresy - or I guess conceivably a recut with heresy-ish weapons.

Oddly all this lines up with a convo i had with a buddy. Given marines are in every starter box, they're pretty much out of core infantry to add. Infernus felt like a stretch last time tbh.

With that in mind, I posed the idea that it's time for an intercessor resculpt. They're a decade old, but we couldn't work out what you might do to justify it.

Removing some of the bolter bits that are only aesthetic now and adding in old mark components would do it though.

Thing is, these rumours are supposedly coming this year (which also relies on geedubs own roadmap and the picture that had everyone foaming at the mouth at the sheer idea of a Sallies codex instead of just marines in general), though given how stacked this rumour is it could either be done in part, or, depending on the whims of GW be moved back entirely.

It’s interesting that after 2 editions of really pushing hard the space marines that are as different as possible from the old (to push sales no doubt to players with existing armies) only now do we start to return to direct replacements for classic units.

I think they realised they were leaving money on the table sidelining/phasing out iconic classic units.  I acknowledge people like it, but Gravis armour was never going to be impactful and popular enough to replace Terminators.  Same with the likes of the Impulsor and Repulsor, very cool but no replacement for the legendary Rhino and Land Raider.

Valrak just dropped a new rumour video saying the whispers of the warp have told him that 11th edition is indeed next year and all speculation about an earlier one was wrong. He also said about the possibility that some of the new Space Marine units (most likely squad refreshes like Vanguard Veterans if you ask me). The heroes are quite likely for this year.
