So I haven’t even really looked at FOBs too closely this edition, but just saw the unit’s ability, and was wondering if the rocket launcher was the best option now.

Bombast is indirect fire so giving it an order just to activate the ability seems like a waste because you can’t really get it better than the 4+ it would with heavy, and out of sight, and unlikely to be giving duty and honor to it.

the hvy las you can get up to BS3+ so it’s not a waste to order it because take aim or take cover both would benefit it, while activating the ability but, A2 makes getting any 6s unlikely.

meanwhile, the rocket launcher can get BS3+, easily benefit from 2 different orders to choose from, and D6+6 shots gives pretty good chance of 6s even at the minimum number of shots.

so is the bombast still the go to?

I really want to like the field gun as it would go well with praetorians, but ap1 s7 is just meh:mellow:

Yeah, it’s kinda underwhelming overall, but clearly that’s because they need to separate it from the new artillery…and that did that by making it less than great.

i think they could have made rockets D6+6 S7 AP-1 D1, bombast D6 S8 AP-2 D2.

heavy las is fine I think.

I have run both Bombasts and Heavy Lascannons quite a lot as I love the models. First off, no they aren't worth the points, especially when you figure the cost of an officer that is pretty much required.

Bombasts suffer from 7 -1 2 shooting profile being crap.  But they aren't terrible for 100 points.  Could benefit nicely from the Siege Detachment's remove cover.

Heavy Lascannons are pretty good.  T5 4+ 6W is more survivable than you'd think.  Obviously if the enemy wants them dead they're dead but they mostly won't die to incidental fire (e.g. our heavy stubbers on every vehicle).  I think that the Recon detachment should be good for them.  Generally I give them Take Aim if they have a vehicle to shoot at and Take Cover if they are just shooting at infantry.  They were actually hurt by the Born Soldiers change as they used to have Lethals vs vehicles as they always remain stationary.

Yeah the change to born soldiers really screwed FOBs and HWSes.

Something ive just noticed, for events that block out all ground floor windows (which is very common in my experience even gw layouts)

M4 is not enough to clear a wall when you have a 100mm base, to get to shoot:laugh:

or if you try and hide them, and try and move them to the left or right to get los, m4 would not be enough for the 2nd one:ermm:

This diminishes their value even more for me.

Just another example of the stupid melee bias.

cant see through windows, doors, shell holes etc in the first floor of a ruin, but by god you can stab someone through a solid fething wall.

They don't even fit in most ruins, they are best used behind ruins not inside.  Toe-in rules mean you're just using the footprint for LOS blocking and holding angles.

Yeah I know right, its a massive boon to melee armies:sad:

Especially with the smaller table sizes, and terrain having almost 0 effect in movement.
