What a terrible shame. I really enjoyed reading his content in WD back in the day. Thoughts and well wishes to his family, friends and many, many fans, the latter of which I luckily count myself amongst.

Great stuff. I always love to see the old terrain, too! I remember replicating those space cacti for our own games back in the day (mostly because they were the only ones I had the skills to pull off)

I've been increasingly interested in trying out second edition! I started playing 40k during 3rd edition so I never experienced 2nd, although I played Fantasy Battle during that era. I also really like 2nd ed. stuff visually, although I probably wouldn't play a game of 40k on that type of green pastoral battlefield.

Never to late for the party.

Green bases and green tables are not mandatory luckily. ;)

Do you have someone to play with?

Here is a nice battlereport by the way

I have one buddy who is also interested in playing older 40k, but he lives in another city so we get to play very rarely. But for trying out the game, the option of SadHammer also exists.

Thanks for the battle report! I've enjoyed watching 2nd ed. games from Minisodes.

@Bob Hunk and I have picked up 2nd edition again recently, and he's graciously indulging my Second Battle of Armageddon hobby itch by sending his Blood Axe orks under Og Throatchoppa to take on the might of General 'Asbach' Grünhold's 707th Steel Legion.

The last time either of us had played 2nd edition was back in the first decade of M3, and I think both of us were a little surprised by how smoothly it worked. We had memories of it being super-complicated, but it's much less abstract than modern games, so common sense goes a long way.

These pictures are from our second game using the Codices – previously one or other of us had been using the 'get you by' lists from 2nd edition (the so-called 'Black Codex').

I always played Guard, so it was like coming home to dig through the veteran abilities. Unlike playing against my older brother (also an ork player!), where I'd always load up on the expensive ones that let you reroll missed shots, I went for a gentler and more thematic selection, with Grizzled veterans holding the line.

The game itself threw up lots of the craziness of 2nd edition, like the poor ork pictured below, who was plucked into the air and flung around on two successive turns by the Primaris* psyker picture above!

* Yeah, Guard had Primaris first :D

Sashammer is playing against yourself I suppose? :)

Yup, Minisodes makes great reports. Can't wait for the next one.

@apologist is there a cow hanging on that tank? :D

Thanks for the short report. Keep em coming if you like!

Hm, I'd roll army list back and forth for second Ed in new recruit and it's looks very interesting. and since my opponent is a nice guy who always open for something new(or old) I should give it a try( Sadhammer:laugh:), but need to find rules and codex.

Which army and what do you play?

Rules you can find online as pdf. Easy to find

Right now I have almost nothing to be honest, it's 1500 PTA of IG and half of models don't fit into 2ed

Ok, but what would you want to play if you could just summon it fully painted in front of you?

I'll start.

My plan is to build a Blood Angels and a Chaos army both themed around the Baal incident.

I am not completely sold on both lists but I gonna aim at that for Chaos:

And this for Blood Angels:

Unfortunately New Recruit doesn't have the option for the Dreadnought to take a Lightning claw with heavy Flamers but I'll add that afterwards by hand.

While 2nd edition was before my time entirely, what I know about it makes me want to try it. I have the Tyranids book from 2E and it's a great read; things like being able to give a Lictor bio-plasma and the chance for enemy vehicles to be infested with Rippers were so cool! Not to mention the gloriously vivid aesthetic of the time paired with some really nice sculpts; scale aside a lot of 2E minis have aged spectacularly well.

I still wish GW would do a MTO of the 2E plastic Tyranid Warriors (also used in Advanced Space Crusade). They're astonishingly good looking models for plastic kits of that vintage and I really like the "bipedal ant" look.

Lol, I have a plan! Wanna build walker heavy orks, for I think both 10th and 2nd now. Thinking the list right now. But second don't have them so just orks.

They absolutely have dreadnoughts. I guess up to 25% can be support and one is 125-ish points so you definitely can field several of them.
