Best army for muddy - forested bases

I am pretty set on a base I want to do. It's not overly fancy but it's a muddy base covered with forest coverage. so it's a greenish / brown color -- the base will be drab brown.

 

I guess you could say ANY army works on this base and that might be true. But I feel like some work better or more than others. So picturing this type of base in your mind, which armies do you think fit this best?

Astra Militarum is always the answer, with certain regiments working better than others (i.e., not regiments like drop troops).

I'd say something light and bright would probably work well. Something to contrast with dark mud splash weathering, and that will stand out against the forest green?

 

I'd say something like Imperial Fists would 'pop' against such a background? (Or maybe Mantis Warriors could be even better, as a forest/jungle theme would be very appropriate for them?)

My first instinct when you say what goes on green and browns is Red. Whether that's Blood Angels, Ad mech, Sororitas, or a guard regiment is personal taste, but that spectrum is a natural fit.

I was going to say Guard. They'd work well if you want the soldiers to look muddy too. The new Cadians would look good if you want a gritty real world looking model.

 

Eldar, particularly Exodites, might also work well. They'd work better if you want a clean paint job on the model that contrasts with the muddiness of the base.

Kroot and Tau might also look pretty good with that style of base.

It depends on whether you want the model to stand out from the base, or blend in.

 

If you want the model to stand out, you can do that by going with bright colours (reds, yellows, turquoise, etc), or a with a contrasting temperature (cool-tone for forest, warm-tone for mud). I'd also say some things lend themselves to standing out better than others - a Space Marine which doesn't match the environment looks "right", whereas a guardsman looks like "a target".

 

If you're looking more for blending in, then Imperial Guard, T'au, or Kroot make sense to me.

Iron Hands have a strong connection to the Mechanicus and their homeworld is the red planet.

 

Mud Base:

40K vintage Death Guard. DG excel at dirty trench fighting and because of that razor wire has been added to the bases.
