Xenith
So I'm way out of practice with 40k and have little idea about the new rules pack. I'm just looking for some feedback on this first go army list to see if there's anything crucial I'm missing that will be useful to have in game. I'm not a power gamer so have taken a few of my favourite units. An autarch goes with each of the banshees and spiders, the farseer with a bright lance guardian unit to reroll a hit/wound on the lance then auto 6 a damage roll. Vypers and walkers to debuff the enemy, rangers and runners for objectives. Prisms, avengers and banshees for killing things. Warhost seems amazing, and I'll be trying to pop in and out of transports all game. One prism could become a lance falcon to give the reapers buffs also. Emperor Ming
Im not sure dire avengers have a place, losing lethal hits is just to much for me I still cant bring myself to pay 100pts for guardians, battleline 2 make no difference if they are dead Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385318-xeniths-eldar-test-list/#findComment-6095120 Share on other sites
Karhedron
I like the look Avengers. Losing Lethal Hits is a shame but they now get 4 Attacks and Sustained Hits 1 within half range. That is a lot of dakka! Personally I feel that one unit of Guardians is more than enough, mostly as a bodyguard for the Farseer. I would be tempted to swap the second squad of Guardians for another unit of Reapers. Their S8 3D shots are good against elite infantry like Gravis, Custodes etc. Aside from that, it looks like a good list to start with. It'll be interesting to see how it plays. Xenith
Thanks both! Avengers for me look like winners, especially if you hit something with guide, or the war walker abilities first, 44 shots will kill 15 gaunts or so. Good call on the guardians, this list started as a guardian battle host list, until I re-read the Warhost! More reapers sound good - I think their starshots are S10 though! Dr. Clock
2 hours ago, Xenith said: guardians I have usually run at least 2x10 for my entire 40k career; it's easy to discount them and they aren't 'quite' a hammer nor an anvil, but they are nevertheless pretty solid 'anchor' units that can punch up if ignored. All that's to say - don't discounts them! If you find you do need that bit more ranged bite, I'd consider trimming a different support unit and an enhancement or even a whole character to fund that instead of the second Guardians. Defenders aren't flashy, but usually you'll be glad you took them even if they are just catching bullets that otherwise would be killing more expensive or critical stuff. Another though just about organization: my Serpents are always stacked with 2x5 of different aspects to ensure 'local flexibility'. It's not uncommon for like 5 Banshees to be able to body block their 5 DA friends so that even though the Banshees die, the DA stick around long enough to score... As soon as you have a chunky Bodyguard somewhere it's going to draw lots of attention, and for us any attention kills, so I prefer 2x5 to 1x10 in most cases even though it can mean giving up some of the buff efficiency. However, now that many buffs just focus on making 1 enemy unit easier to kill, you can use many 5s together very efficiently instead of relying on directly buffing a big unit of shooters (through an Autarch, for instance). With more 'return to safety' shenanigans in the list now, I can see how taking some full units can become more attractive, but you're definitely at the point where you could just 'go full wide' and turn your 10s into 5s... Truly it'll boil down to personal preference in the end. In sum - a great list : ) And probably especially in that I can see any number of 1 for 1 swaps that you can make in future as you learn what you like. No spam - no worries! Cheers, The Good Doctor. Xenith
Thanks for the thoughts - I'm still very much in the previous ed mindset of trying to take a couple of 'troop' units, so guardians, but I think they might also have utility this edition especially with the free fade maneuver they get - and any fire into them is less into an aspect warrior unit. I did make another version based on guardian feedback, but I appreciate the comments overall. Crazy to see how easy it is to make a halfway decent army with Eldar, with nids it seemed an uphill battle to get enough damage dealers in. I dropped 1 guardians, a prism and phoenix gem for a lance falcon for the reapers, and units of scorps and hawks for objectives and pushing people back. Both will be fun I think! Karhedron
Yes, Reapers hopping in and out of a Falcon look really strong. And if the enemy tries to deny them a reactive move to re-embark, at least they are not getting shot at.
