hd3
I was curious about what is the most common way to paint volkite weapons and if they're different from neo-volkite weapons used later by primaris units. I just don't like how most volkite paint schemes amount to slightly less glowy plasma. I'm reasonably happy with how my neo-volkite pistol came out but I was wondering if it's supposed to look distinct from original volkite. Any advice would be welcome. TheArtilleryman
Haha I probably fit into the glowy category with mine. I go red/orange, because it’s a heat ray so I imagine it glowing like hot metal. Yours looks similar but more metallic, so fits in with this idea too. The word “neo” just means new, so in my head the 40K volkite weaponry is the same tech, just newly manufactured rather than being an ancient artifact. There might be some other lore/fluff that I’m missing but that’s how I see it. I guess you can paint it how you like. There are plenty of folks who paint plasma colours other than blue - it’s all fiction at the end of the day. bloodhound23, Deus_Ex_Machina, Firedrake Cordova and 1 other 3 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385346-painting-volkiteneo-volkite/#findComment-6095734 Share on other sites
Xenith
I weirdly don't have any good pictures of my volkite, but mines is almost the reverse of @TheArtilleryman's - white to the middle, red to the outside. I go - mephiston, evil sunz, wild rider, AK orange [trollslayer], then pure white at the end. Xenith
Here's another from my IG https://www.instagram.com/p/CrMM_FDtsEK/?igsh=MXhneW42czUxY2dyMQ== It's contemptor eye lenses, but I build up the colours and glow in exactly the same way. I assume that the Imperium have lost some of the secrets of its' manufacture over the intervening 10,000 years, so the new ones are a bit worse than the old ones? I don’t know… I’m assuming it’s all part of Cawl’s stash of stuff that he was hoarding and working on for 10,000 years but I’m not as well studied on all the new lore since 8th. Firedrake Cordova
Same here, to be honest (just making a gut guess based on the general trend) TheArtilleryman 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385346-painting-volkiteneo-volkite/#findComment-6095818 Share on other sites
Magos Takatus
I Haven't painted mine the "correct" colour in-lore because all the rest of my Adeptus Mechanicus models had blue energy effects and I wanted to remain fairly consistent across my army but I painted the containment rings a brassy colour and then painted my glowing effect internally. Nowadays I might entertain an OSL glow but before I was confident enough to try my results looks a little more "contained" inside the gun's housing. I *think* this is the only Volkite weapon I have painted so far, unless there's little ones on the Triaros? I think there might be. Yes there is. Little tiny choom. Deus_Ex_Machina
I played a lot of SM2. So it has to be an orange/red ray: https://ibb.co/album/TWfTJP Firedrake Cordova 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385346-painting-volkiteneo-volkite/#findComment-6097426 Share on other sites

It's a Martian heat ray, after all. Like I said, the only reason I painted mine blue was because every energy effect in that army was blue and I wanted my army to look consistent and not have different colour for radium, plasma, volkite and whatever other weapons I had. Perhaps in retrospect I should have made a rainbow disco death ray army? Firedrake Cordova
The other option is to paint them with the raised fins being the "hottest" (brightest) part, and the recesses in the plasma coils as the hottest part - that way they're consistent colours, but visually distinct.
