I quite like this guy, I imagine this being after Isstvan and more during the mech civil war, his armour has a lot of nods to Corax’s own, which I like since it was the only person within the legion to acknowledge him, maybe that’s why the iconography is so emboldened, I also quite like the skulls, at this point Raven skulls weren’t a largely used motif by the legion so the moritat having them is a nice touch given his murderous tendencies. His head is sadly a miss and the head from the upgrade set will be far better with some painted stubble, the edge highlighting while nutty impressive, is too much all in all pretty good hit for me!
while nothing like the art I think having a super modified MK6 armour reflects the war he’s been fighting mostly alone

Is it just me that finds the fact that the above translates to just Space Marines and not a single actual Martian in sight weird?

I try not to think too much on it lest the rage take me again

Jaghatai: "My sons ritually scar themselves on induction."

Leman Russ: "I have mine cast out to survive the brutal Fenrisian wilds to prove themselves."

Corax: "I dip mine in glue, then drop them into a giant box of metal raven skulls."

Sexy stubble added

That and the eyes make it instantly better. I'd probably still switch it out for another head so you can get closer to the Thor Ragnarok hair cut.

He might look good with one of the character heads that have the rebreather.

Lot of potential to the model with some small tweaks.

Also made the skin paler... the color GW uses to shade skin often clashes weirdly with other elements to me ( although, with ravenguard I think they are also supposed to be paler anyway so it double works out.)

I noticed that one element going on here that I really like has made an appearance for ravenguard before :

Though its a bit more raw there, I like that alot... but from a casual observer (me) pov.. it doesnt seem on brand for ravenguard ?

I believe it's a carcharodons/"oceanic" allusion :)

As a big raven guard fan (played them almost every edition since 4th up until I largely abandoned 40k in the middle of 9th), I remember being super excited for the heresy raven guard take, and then bring super confused by that patterning (and super disappointed in the dreadnought on the whole). It came out of nowhere and felt more tied into the dangling bird skulls FW had made for the 40k upgrade kit than any other thematic design space. And then aside from a much more balanced amount used on corax, none appeared on the special units or infantry upgrades.

Nevermore!

I got a similar feeling and it took me a bit but I think its because of the pauldrons visible under his cloak

That is not part of his cloak. The claok only starts at the ravenskulls. Thos black parts are still his pauldrons(Who is this paul anyway and why does he need so many drones?)
