After a long hiatus from the hobby I have been pulled back in after watching the Astartes 2 Trailer. I haven't played or gamed since 4th edition, so I'm in for quite a shakeup it seems with state of affairs in 10th. Naturally, with my reintroduction to 40k being Astartes and Space Marine 2, I had to pick up a box of intercessors. Going with a custom chapter for these guys and calling them Siege Dragons, an Imperial Fists successor chapter in my head cannon. Lots of Vindicators, lots of dreadnoughts and lots of plasma. Should be good fun! I'll be posting my updates here as they come in, got some basecoats, shading and edge highlights on these Intercessors over the weekend. Hoping to get to some clean up, lenses, bolters and chipping/weathering this coming weekend. 12 years of rust is a lot to dust off!!!!

I have also decided that it would only be a proper return to the hobby if I sculpted some plague marines. This will be the B project of this log until I wander off to paint some Necrons and AoE. Going for a cleaner, less dirty nurgle with these guys as I dont LOVE the current take on nurgle models. I'll be going for some Ma.K mixed with 3rd edition nurgle designs at a Primaris size.

Thanks y'all! Have had a bit more of a go on the intercessors and started some progress on a techmarine and a phobos unit. Still needing some details touched up here and there and some decals (getting those printed now) 54409170442_e3bb34d113_b.jpg

The techmarine

The phobos unit so far,

and after these guys, I got a phobos captain built up and pieced together.

and just a little group shot.

Very cool paint scheme, and well executed - good job!

Very smart indeed.

What tufts are you using on those bases? The combination work well with your Marine scheme and ground colour.

Thanks! Im using a combination of gamergrass highland tufts and swampland marsh grass I believe, still need to hit em with some varnish and add a bit of pigments to really tie em all together.

I appreciate all the kind words y’all! Having a blast getting back into the hobby. Currently trying to get the rust off of vehicle painting with an old poorly built, poorly primed predator. Bonus Inceptor block in included.IMG_4464.thumb.jpeg.a37e40bb3158afa5f8070cd4f646c7e2.jpegIMG_4463.thumb.jpeg.f2735904ba48c3ed40a2c8c70280aa22.jpegIMG_4462.thumb.jpeg.532c2903efd2355f7483240441c8fd65.jpeg

Thanks! The weathering is my fav part about painting tanks.

Have made a few bits of progress on the Siege Dragons. Flipped the color scheme for the bladeguard for some contrast. Also got some paint on a phobos lieutenant.IMG_5047.thumb.jpeg.199b7273d2281d8549ab7507c9b4f171.jpeg

I like your style of painting very much. It's so annoying since I've been doing some soul searching and wanted to try something new for myself but looking at models painted like yours further sets me in my ways.

Do you mind summarising how you go about painting the 'battle damage,' especially the fine scratches (or suggest a tutorial if you're following one). They're great and elevate the models to an even higher level. I would very much like to try to replicate this on my purple marines.

Hey thanks for the kind words! I'm not doing anything particularly groundbreaking for the weathering, I've been using a very small brush to paint a few 'line' scratches here and there while painting. I then use a very watered down rust brown to drop into the edges so it pools a bit, while it's still wet I take a dry brush and feather out the glaze a bit so the drying lines aren't too bad.

For the chips I use two different types of sponges, one is quite porous and textured (from a Halloween makeup sponge kit on amazon), the other is a denser foam from an army transport case that makes much smaller micro chips. I try to keep the damaging (as much as I can) relegated to edges and areas of heavy wear and tear, the shoulder pads I take a bit more liberty with as I imagine them taking a wide variety of chip damage from all sorts of things.

From there I go back in with the base coat color and clean up some of the chips and then mix up a lighter highlight to edge highlight the bottoms of some of the bigger chips to add a bit of depth.

Hope that helps a bit!

Long time no posting in here. Work has been slaying my mini painting time. I have been busy with what time I’ve had though! I need to pull some stuff out to take photos but for now here’s what’s on my painting desk!

I wasn’t happy with how pink the bladeguard were, they weren’t quite matching the offwhite helmets and arms from the rest of the force. I layered in some lighter shades and have begun some painting on my terminator captain.

Those are looking good to me. Have you given any thought to your chapter sigil or background? As a fellow custom chapter creator I'd be interested in whats in your head cannon.

Thanks! I had originally concocted this scheme and force as a chapter known as the Siege Dragons, an Imperial Fists successor chapter who over the course of several campaigns fought closely alongside the Raptors. They are a chapter who utilizes a lot of armor, vindicators, predators, dreadnoughts and gladiators but after decades fighting with the raptors have taken to less Codex Astartes compliant methods and now utilize several phobos detachments and stealth tactics to conduct guerilla warfare to supplement armor advances.

I need to finalize a chapter design in photoshop and get some decals printed.

I dig the dragon/castle combo! Might have to run with some ideas like that. Thanks!

I got some paint on a lieutenant and some hellblasters this week. Lots to clean up on the liutenant but coming along!
