Brother Martemis
I need a little bit of help with suggestions. I appear to have a bit of a go to move/error that I make. I play iron warriors, and.enjoy conversions. But started two, fount my plan doesn't work, and have hidden them. I was going to convert an Iron Warriors Abbadon so cut his legs off at the knees, thinking it would be easy to find some technological replacements. Apparently it isn't. But I've also done the same to the new daemon prince (i know, I am not a smart individual) - and have the same issue. I thought the new sentinel legs would work. They do not. Neither do the old ones. Maybe kastellans from the admech range for both? The DP is full legs, and abbadon is from the knees down. Does anyone have any suggestions of things that may work? Of pictures of they have done something similar. This year is supposed to be the year of me doing the things that I've hidden to one side; so I don't want to chuck them in a cupboard and hide from them. Xin Ceithan
Is therevany particular direction / idea you want to go with the conversions? I have neither of the models, so I can not really comment on if it’s do-able scale- wise, but here is some ideas: If you are already chopping down models, go full the whole way and cut up a Thanatar War robot? Or going for a more centaur like built, maybe you could use the lower part of a Defiler or Dune Strider? Or go for the full RT set up with a tracked chassis as a base ( Chimera or Rhino ? ) Again the new Mechanicus battle tanks already look easily heretical? If all fails, you could always green stuff a snaking lower body made from a mass of techno-tentacles - instant Blanchitzu? Trokair
I don’t have abandon so cant judge scale for him, but gestimating based on look, base size and Guilliman kit I think you have some options. I would think that Kastelan, Castellax and so called Castraferrum Dreadnaugh (the old plastic 40k Dreadnaught , I think currently only the Space Wolf version is still on sale) should all work. As might a Contemptor Dread. Redemptors/Invictor and the bigger 30k dreads are to big however. Perhaps also Penitent engines, as I think they are similar to old plastic Sentinels (which could also work unlike the new one which his way bigger). Along the same line the Hermes Sentinel from HH These might all be a tad too big, but if they are supposed to be an armoured mechanical leg that might be fine. Also the Casterform dread leg is smaller than it looks initially if you don’t add the armour plate. If those prove a little too big for what you want then perhaps take a look at Thallax (recently in plastic) or when they come out in plastic the Vorax (currently a forgeworld resin kit). The Necromunda Servitor Ogryn have a mechanical leg bit. Likewise Ambot and or / Enforcer Automaton might be a way. I suspect the Ambot won’t work for you as the legs are a tad short compared to body, but could work as a very bulky mech foot/ lower leg and foot Also the Van Saar Arachni-rigs come to mind. Perhaps even the squat Vartijan, though again he is currently resin only. Lastly have a look at the Adeptus Titanicus range. The titans are to large apart from maybe the Warhaound as that is similar to the old plastic dread, having used them as stand in for such, though the Warhound legs are bigger than the dreads. Normal knights are too small, but the Cerastus and Acastus legs might be a good fit. As for the Daemon prince, I haven’t done it yet, but I have all the 40k bits from the new plastic Daemon prince and have done some initial comparison and think I can kit bash it with Kastelan (or similar sized model as mentioned above, ie Castlellax, Old Dread, AT Warhound and maybe Contemptor) just fine.
