ExeterOborach
Hey everyone. So I know there was some rule adjustment last edition (and maybe prior) regarding Fighting in melee through ruin walls. Like there was an extension on engagement range so that models inside the ruin couldn't just move back from the wall just enough to be out of engagement range from enemies on the outside while also not leaving enough room for enemy models to enter the ruin and have enough room for their bases to fit in between them and the wall. My question is: Is there a rule for this situation now? I know there is an extension for engagement range for barricades but I couldn't find anything for ruins. Thanks. DemonGSides
Engagement range is 1" horizontally, that's about the extent of it. There's a pretty well known tactic of leaving just less than an inch between a ruin wall and the bases of your guys inside so that the enemy can't fit any models in (unless they are on 25mm bases) and therefore can't make a successful charge or get into engagement range. It's weird. ExeterOborach
Yeah, that's my understanding. I was watching a game where there was a melee going on through a ruin wall. Player 1 had one model against the wall on the outside and player 2 had 5 models on the inside. 3 of the 5 were against the wall and the other two were behind in base contact with the three. Player 1 said that the two in the back didn't get to fight since the three in the front weren't in base contact with his model due to the wall. Player 2 said "when fighting through walls the engagement range is 2 inches just like barricades". He then proceeded to fight with all five of his models even though I told him that rule was from a previous edition. WTC Rules that different (and WTC is official partner of GW) that units which are in this position to have an impossible charge - get 2" engangement range. that means most likly same amout of models can attack. DemonGSides Posted yesterday at 02:46 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:46 AM That ruling isn't in any sort of dataslate or Rules FAQ or Rules Commentary so I wouldn't advocate for playing that unless you were taking part in a tournament specifically using those rules or at least specifying with your opponent about that at the beginning of the game. Now that may come out in the oncoming dataslate at which point I think that's fine, but it's not how the game is operating currently.
