The call of the plastic Krieg models was strong enough to pull me out of a long hiatus. Love the new kits. I’ve been watching a fair amount of online games over the last year and I hope that I put something together that’s fits a mildly sweaty mentality. Comments and criticism are welcome

 

Dreir and the Death Riders team up to maximize mortal wounds and act as an early mid board deterrent. Three units of engineers following along, taking advantage of Dreirs extra orders, adding to the mortal wound battery and claim some mid objectives. The Dorns speak for them selves. Each commander has a wing man to share the order love. Some hard to remove infantry blobs fill out the rear guard. Sly acts as an action monkey. Simple list, waves of threat

 

82 infantry, 11 cavalry, 4 tanks

 

Have I achieved casually competitive?

I really like this list. There are similarities to the one I have in the works, though I've gone with artillery teams and more horseys over engineers. And having recenty faced Rogal Dorns on the field for the first time, I have a healthy respect for them and your list would give my BA pause.

This may be true on both fronts, but I like the models, the theme, and they’re not awful. Driers a bit expensive and that, I imagine, will get corrected next MFM update. The death riders with dev wounds can also splash a fair amount of damage onto things. Mainly, I’m looking for them to clog the mid board for a turn or two and hopefully finish off units that the engineers have softened. Plus, I mean. . .the rule of cool. . .

I think the dorns may be the best thing in the guard codex. I suspect there will be a fair amount of point changes until this army settles out. I’m disappointed the artillery got bumped to 95 because I love the models. At that cost though it’s difficult to justify placing them in a list

Yeah I've only taken out the Death Riders one time so far, but the entire unit except for Drier got lifted T1 by what amounted to not much, so I think "Mid board clog" is a bit hopeful for them with their relatively weak defensive stats.  I think I'd like em more as a run on flanking force to hopefully scoop up something left open.

 

I think some points changes make Drier more exciting and the ablative wound aspect of Death Riders will be more worthwhile in that case.

You're preaching to the choir on the dorn choice for me.  I never thought I'd be considering ANOTHER Dorn at this point with having 3 put together already but the 2-2 set up of Dorn plus Wingman is REALLY tempting.

Solar can join basically anything besides Scions.  Even Combat Engineers which is kinda hilarious.  Wonder if a new Solar blob could be something like 5x Engineers and then a Command Squad and Solar.  Gets the Master Vox benefit but an even smaller package.  He's just a lot less required than he used to be due to Tank Commanders and really all order-givers getting better (Minus Commissar.  RIP.)

I think three Dorns is fine as long as you take Grand Strategist on the commander. I feel like I’m missing out on a major part of the army if everyone isn’t getting orders. Maybe I’m just being OCD about that. Another list I’ve been working on has three Dorns and two units of Kasrkin in Taurox Primes. The kasrkin and primes have such great synergy and can really scoot around the board, in theory. Maybe I’ll transition into a mechanized assault list after I get my feet wet again but kitbashing/converting 20 krieg engineers into “kasrkin” is probably going to be alot of work.

I play the 3 down and 2x10 Kas list for like a year now and really enjoy it. I don't have any taurox but I've been scoping out knock offs since I think the GW versions a bit wonky.

 

I like the engineers, they've got surprising damage if you get lucky.

I feel like this will allow me to aggressively move up the board. I’ll be able to hold some of the engineers in reserve for late game caps. The Death Riders have a better chance at not getting focused down because of the kasrkin combo and lurking engineers. The Castellan can issue two orders so the they can double up to lay down some withering firepower. Rank fire, take aim, and the taurox full wound rerolls should delete a lot of stuff
