Hopefully, the rules don't shift significantly.

If it's functionally 2.5 with "new edition" slapped on because the beancounters in head office demanded it, I won't be overly bothered. It doesn't really seem in the Specialist Team's wheelhouse to reinvent a game on a whim anyway. Three years for a glorified balance pass and errata implementation I can live with.

I'm sure that won't stop months of "Heresy DUMBED DOWN? Swapping to 10TH EDITION RULES???" clickbait and fake rumours, mind.

I'm seeing it as either it is, the source or Valrak see it as HH3.0, or Valrak is intentionally saying this to help with views  (it is YouTube and it helps get the views! No slight against Valrak but it's what he has to do).

Will be interesting to see if it will leave all the Liber books compatible with 3.0, and it just be a rules sweep up

I've been toying with Heresy for a while now but not committed as I had a feeling new books would be on the way. I have some 40K World Eaters that I'm itching to convert up to either Sons of Horus Reavers or World Eater Berzerkers in Heresy, and I've kind of been waiting to see what happens.

I really hope it's just an evolution. If it changes to 10th like rules I'm out.

I feel like if they were ever going to swap to 8th/10th edition-esq rules it would have been last edition, back before the game was generally considered 'dead' by a lot of people and at a time when lots of 40k influencers were going "Heresy NEEDS to adopt 8th edition rules, none wants pre-7th anymore!".

We've now had three years of proof there's still an appetite for crunchier, pre-8th style games. While I wouldn't doubt GW's willingness to blow it's foot off on a whim, I think TOW coming back relatively faithful to ye olde editions puts Heresy 3.0 in good stead to not follow the 10th edition gravy train.

As people have already stated its probably more like 2.5 but we know Games Workshop would never do that, the whispers are saying that this boxset will deffo be Hours Heresy Third Edition.

Did you hear anything about what books, if any, this 3rd edition launch boxset would come with?

This. Stop making us buy the rules again every 3 years GW

The very least that would make it tolerable would be that if it's more an FAQ'd version of the current rules, that doesn't require those with the current rule book to buy another £40 tome.

Yeah the models coming out of Horus Heresy are excellent. What all is there still left to release in plastic?

I know all Legions had everything, but the anticipated legions don't really suggest two distinct forces to lean in to different sides of the armoury, so I would imagine it'd be 30 MKII (tacticals for sure, Breachers maybe?), 2 Characters, Sicaran with turret upgrade, Rapiers and maybe a flyer in a box analogous to AoD2.0.

Can't seem them releasing outriders and seekers, for instance, if the box is marked as being Salamanders/Iron Warriors, and there's only really the Sabre of the non super heavy vehicles left to redo in plastic that isn't a flyer.

In terms of armour types - MKII and MKV, whilst MKIV, Cataphractii and Tartaros could do with an upgrade.

In terms of units - Breachers, Outriders, Javelins, Land Speeders, Seekers, Recons (Legion Scouts?), Sabre, Xiphon, Storm Eagle, Fire Raptor, Rapiers, Dreadclaw, Arquitor, Termite, Sicaran options

'doable' Centrepiece models - Fellblade, Falchion, Glaive, Kharybdis, Thunderhawk

My local place still has boxes of AoD kicking around, wonder if they'll print as much of the new box as they seemed to overprint of that old box.

AoD wasn't a FOMO box. It's a normal item like in the good ol' days, or it will be until this boxset presumably.

They've still got quite a bit they could push out:

  • Mark IV / V
  • Rapiers (which may come in this release?)
  • Recon Squads / Seekers
  • Destroyers
  • Breachers
  • Arquitors
  • Sabres
  • Outriders
  • Xiphon
  • Storm Eagle / Fire Raptors
  • Dreadnought Drop Pods
  • Deathstorm Drop Pods
  • Kharybdis Drop Pods
  • Dreadclaw Drop Pods
  • Javelin Land Speeders
  • Proteus Land Speeders
  • Termites
  • Fellblades + Variants
  • Mastadon
  • Missing Sicaran variants.
  • Legacies units they could 'return' like the Whirlwind and Basilisks/Medusa.
  • Probably stuff I've missed off this list.

That's before getting into the Legion-specifics and non-Marine stuff, which is all largely still resin.

For marines 3 Sicaran variants, 3 marine superheavies, Sabre, 3 Arquitor variants, Basilisk, Medusa, Rapier platforms, Mk2, 4 and 5 armours (mk7 armour possibly as well), specialised infantry units like Destroyers and Breachers.  Storm Eagles and the Xiphon.  New scale Terminators of all types.  Castaferrum Dreadnougts. All types of speeder.

For SA the Aurox and Carnadon, Lightning, Avenger and Thunderbolt flyers, flamer sections, rapier platforms.

For Mechanicum, loads more stuff.

For Custodes, nearly everything.

For Sisters of Silence, nearly everything.

I think resculpted terminators are definitely coming at some point, given they never did plastic weapon upgrade sets for them.

It’ll be cool to see some new stuff though if it’s the old terminator design people have started called saturnine I’m less thrilled

I have to agree though I’d love to see some updated cataphractii sculpts

we’ll get it all within the next few years but I’m dying to see MKV MKIV
