I have wanted Mark II armor to make a return for so long. I love the Lorica Segmentata-esque Roman look of the overlapping plates, and it really screams Great Crusade and Legions to me. Although (based on the new Mark IIIs) I assume the plates won't be fully overlapping in the new models. I'm going to have to make either an Iron Warriors or Ultramarine army, or possibly both.

See these comments are full of positivity, which is encouraging, but on the flip side:

I can play with a combat patrol and nothing else, I don't need to own a 60 model army to play entry level 40k, I don't need a 4x4 table of specialist terrain. Yes it's cheaper than 2 combat patrols, but it's also not a full size army.

All that said, I have gone and bought some mechanicum, so bring on June I guess?

However, on the flipped flip side, there aren't many people that'll just have a game of combat patrol (woefully underdeveloped compared with spearhead). Conversely, there's plenty of heresy players that'd play zone mortalis/ 1500/ 2000 point games.

2 combat patrols also wouldn't be a full sized 40k force yet is more expensive than the AoD box ($400 vs $375). If you could afford 2 CP boxes or the AoD box, you would get so much more mileage out of the latter as there's 3 game types/ sizes you could play whereas a CP box locks you into one game type that not many people (in my humble experience) play. However, if you don't like space marines or heresy it's all moot anyways.

Enjoy the mechanicum :)

People also forget that HH Zone Mortalis is a thing. So you don't in fact need 60 models to play Heresy.

You also don't need to have "proper" scenery either. A raft of boxes and suchlike will enable the game to be played fine. Visually a challenge but needs must at times.

I've been sat on the cusp of wanting to be involved in HH for ages, but the remaining resin stuff and larger game size have held me back. If they can do something to make a lower entry point than 3k b3ing the norm, that'd be a big help.

I have played so far two games of HH 2.0 at around 1000 points. It´s certainly possible to have an interesting game at that size.

This. Stop making us buy the rules again every 3 years GW

The very least that would make it tolerable would be that if it's more an FAQ'd version of the current rules, that doesn't require those with the current rule book to buy another £40 tome.

Well, you don´t have to. As a consumer you have the power. Just grab the loss leader (big new HH 3.0 boxset) and integrate the new models into the HH 2.0 framework. That´s what I am going to do.

Interesting to see if this will be the edition of infantry and specialist units support instead of waves of armour.

One thing will be a given: The brutal nerf of Dreadnoughts.

The only HH group I know is chill enough that if the next edition blows they’ll just keep playing the old one.  I’m all about more plastic.  Valrak also said the new box would come with the templates and scatter dice.  Maybe I’m reading too much into it but, if so, that ain’t 10th edition 40K.

I'm seeing it as either it is, the source or Valrak see it as HH3.0, or Valrak is intentionally saying this to help with views  (it is YouTube and it helps get the views! No slight against Valrak but it's what he has to do).

I never even mentioned the 3.0 in my title, I bait way more hard than that :teehee:

We play 1500 point games all the time, 1000-2000 point games are certainly fine, especially with the Siege of Cthonia missions. There are some valid criticisms of those missions, but undeniably you can play some really quick games at those mid-point ranges and have a pretty great time.

I cannot find anyone who lives in my part of MD who plays HH, and that’s a shame because I love the setting. Even my local B&M nerd store carries far more Blood Bowl products than they do Horus Heresy ones - they usually have one or two tanks/land raiders, maybe one character (which is how I picked up Fafnir, a guy whose name screams Space Wolves and not Imperial Fists, but he’s pretty cool so I’ll let it slide), and that’s about it. There’s more Necromunda stuff than HH as well, and this is a store that has an entire long wall dedicated to 40K and AoS minis. But with any luck 3e will be good and more people around my area will be interested in giving it a shot.

Outside of rules and models, I wonder who will narrate the trailer. In the previous one it was Horus, but was he picked because he's Big Bad Horus or because his Legion was one of the two poster boys.

If so, will it be narrated by Vulkan, expressing his sorrow at the tragedy unfolding, or will it be Perturabo, coldly narrating the campaign with a hint of bitterness at it all.

Which is fine, but only if the local player base are doing the same. If my group decide to buy the new rules, but I stick to V2, let's face it: I won't be getting any more games of HH

I wonder if all armies will actually get to play the entirety of this edition.  Or will they like 2ed give the marines a edition, and throw some scraps every now and then to the other factions.

My single greatest memory of 2 ed is sitting down on release day with my thousands of points of resin Mechanicum and realizing that i cannot play, not that day, or the next month, or the month after that, or the.... Just me holding a rulebook that i cannot use.

On a 3 year circle some armies missed 33-40% OF THE ENTIRE EDITION.  Not lacking a codex or being forced to play with a basic pdf list. But not being able to play at all.

I hope they’ve been saving a load of releases back for this and we’re going to see plastic breachers, javelins, recons etc very soon.

Excited to see the new terminator armour. I hope they’ve rescale tartarus in the not too distant future as well, I really like that mk but it seems the most out of scale now.

I'd really love to see new Mark IV (over and above new Mark II), so I'd be really pleased if that were true, but Valrak's seems far more plausible to me. I think Mark II is a better selling point for a new edition box than Mark IV as it's been out of print for a long time and there's quite a bit of community demand, Saturnine Terminators are inevitable given they're listed in the HH 2.0 rulebook timeline, and why wouldn't they throw a big hook into their giant expensive box.

Ugh, I had hoped that 30k would be free from the 3-year cycle that's trapped AoS and 40k, however if it is just a patch edition that's too much for a FAQ I'd be ok with it since as many kin have said before me we're still missing loads of units and not just for the astartes.

Hate to say it, but even if they release heresy 3.0 in the summer, new books will still be on the way, with another edition in 3 years.

100% agree. It's the pattern GW do for their systems. My thoughts were more about waiting until the cycle starts before jumping on. Last thing I want to do is spend money on new books when I could have spend it on plastic models. It's the main bugbear I have at the moment, especially when you are spending £30 to £40 for the books.

There are alternate rumours doing the rounds, this is on Reddit but it's circulating round multiple places, so unsure of origin.

So there's this box full of Space Marines coming? I think we can all agree that is probably going to happen

Unless a fourth edition releases for Heresy in 2028 then there's not been any confirmation we're on a three year cycle. This has to happen more than once to be considered a cycle, realistically.

Frankly, Mark II > Mark IV. Mark II has been out of production for a long time, and the current Mark IV set is perfectly fine (albeit a bit small).

Although I certainly like the idea of new chunky terminators and chunky dreadnoughts it's hard to get super excited for them without seeing what they'll look like (actual models not just artwork). New MK.II are definitely welcome and whether it's in this box or separately I'll pick some up at some point but I am hoping the box is the new starter and sticks around as I probably won't be in a position to pick it up at launch.
