TraumaKitten
It’s been a long time but today I decided to pick up the brush again. Overall I’m satisfied with my creation but I think the color scheme is too bright and I’m not a fan of the metallic. Flats would save me a bit of time as well. I have a lot of these little guys to paint Edited March 20 by TraumaKitten phandaal, firestorm40k, DemonGSides and 10 others 3 10 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385469-death-korps-painting-blog/ Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
The photo's we take have a bad habit of skewing our perceptions. This close up, under "perfect" lighting, maybe the model seems a little bright, but put it on a table and retreat to gming distance? I bet those details pop just right Edited March 11 by Grotsmasha Dr_Ruminahui, TraumaKitten, Brother Carpenter and 2 others 4 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385469-death-korps-painting-blog/#findComment-6099434 Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova
Honestly, they look fine to me. Maybe wait until their base is done before final judgement? A muddy or urban base may affect your perception of the colours? If you still feel they're too bright, maybe a very light glaze of Agrax Earthshade might bring the brightness down a bit? crimsondave
Honestly, it looks fine to me. What do you not like about the metallics? Agree with Firedrake if you want to dirty him up and darken. Agrax works well, just go easy. You can always add. sbarnby71
Looking good to me and based on the long time away from the hobby, this is damn good. As others have said maybe some agrax to tone it down, can also thin it using some medium or if you want a real dirty random look a bit of water with the agrax as it will split the shade and make it patchy and give a random finish. DemonGSides
I wouldn't change a thing. They look good and stylized which is way cooler than trying to approximate the scheme you see everyone else using. A whole army in this style would be sick to see. TraumaKitten
Krieg Engineer #2. I’ve gone with a more grimdark attempt. Still getting used to some processes again. The eye glow effect, though better, still needs a bit of work. I bought a bottle of acrylic orange fluorescent paint to help with the next model, hopefully. The metals look more ragged and toned down. Better, but still not satisfied. Weathering and texturing needs practice. . . Firedrake Cordova
They look great. The base really adds something to the model TraumaKitten 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385469-death-korps-painting-blog/#findComment-6099966 Share on other sites
Tallarn Commander
The Grimdarkier trooper is superior. Great job, TraumaKitten 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385469-death-korps-painting-blog/#findComment-6100068 Share on other sites
Xenith
Looking great! With the flat black base, I think models will always appear lighter in contrast to it. Nice work! TraumaKitten
Engineer #3: Different paint scheme, went with Castellan green base, rather than a grey. Started with black primer with a white primer base coat highlight attempting a halo spray. Needed more distance imo, less of a heavy hand. Eyes turned out better, but can still use work. I did all NMM, overall I think it turned out okay. Needs finer lines for highlights though. The look is even more grimdarkerer than last! First attempt at a little mud spray, but the photos make it difficult to see Dr_Ruminahui, crimsondave, Firedrake Cordova and 4 others 3 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385469-death-korps-painting-blog/#findComment-6100303 Share on other sites

DemonGSides
I have an artillery crew I've painted in blues, but I think I might go the green for the engineers as yours is fantastic. Great job, again! TraumaKitten
Engineer #4 Black primer, white sprayed about 2’ away to mist the model giving it some highlight/texture to the undercoat. Used Catachan green with a watered down Agra’s wash. Everything is NMM. I think this is my best one yet. Brother Carpenter
Very nice, all of your test models. Far better than I can churn out The eye glow really worked out well. Liking 3 and 4 best of the 4 test types. Keep it up. Urauloth
Really like how the muddied up Catachan green looks. The colour pops without being too bright, and it's just vibrant enough for the weathering to stand out. TraumaKitten
Another one done in a slightly different variation. Still using black primer base coat with a halo spray of white to help with pre highlights. Castellaten green base with a Elysian green dry brush. Fairly heavy but diluted application of agrax wash. Primarily used dry brushing to bring details out then did fine weathering and highlights on the armor plates. I think I’m improving in hand control and brush manipulation across the five models. Used Russian mud fx from Vallejo for the base and Russian mud splash for the uniform stains. Process was much faster this time, between the dry brushing and basing choice, it was significant. I also think it looks more natural, closer to some of the forge world stuff rather than the pristine models from box art. Firedrake Cordova
Whilst I prefer the left-hand one, I think they all came out really nicely, and an army of any of them would look great Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385469-death-korps-painting-blog/#findComment-6101489 Share on other sites
Dr_Ruminahui
I agree, though my own preference is for the middle model.
