Twisted Titanicus just popped this rumour up over on Instagram*, so I wanted to share it here for some discussion/froth:

Sounds plausible – thought perhaps it's the mention of variant infantry that has me wanting it to be true!

On the specifics:

  • Ultramarines versus SoH is an unexpected combination – while the Ultramarines were there, I always thought of Molech more as a Knight battle. Of course, with the disconnect between theme and releases in previous LI expansions, that doesn't count it out for me.
  • Legio Superheavies are an obvious and much-requested missing release.
  • Vindicator will be a welcome addition, too – providing SM with a way to clear buildings and hopefully reduce the dominance of garrisons.
  • Thrilled with the idea of more infantry variety.
  • I'm not surprised to see no Legion-specifics models at this point, but I'd be startled if there aren't any Formations of Legend.
  • Not sure what 'Mechanicus SP' means, so won't comment on that.
  • Interesting to here of a new Knight variant – though my immediate thought, given the theme, was that the old Epic Slaaneshi Hellknights would be a sensible tie-in release. Wonder what this will be? Could be crossed wires with the recently-released Mechanicum ones, perhaps, but maybe not.

Cum grano salis, of course, but I'll pop on my 'guardedly optimistic' hood for this one.

Assuming it's true, accompanying releases likely to be something along the lines of:

  • Vindicator box
  • Mark III Infantry box
  • Fellblade/Falchion box
  • Glaive box [Perhaps just one superheavy?]
  • New Knight variant box
  • 'Mechanicus SP' box(es)?

yes, plausible but is it business-plausible? I mean, so few things doesn't really shake the market or rise the hype skyhight. A new faction would have been better for not much more effort (for example: custodes?).

And the additional big let down for me is the last sentence: "not the armiger in plastic". Phhhh....

Unfortunately /tg/ has close to 0 reliability on the rumour front, since anybody can write a plausiable sounding list and post it anon.

I recall seeing a post on Dakka a month or two ago speculating about Molech as an UM vs SoH supplement, which makes me wonder if they'd just viewed that thread and went from there.

It would also be very strange to not have any Solar Auxilia focus or releases, when Molech is one of the few battles with an emphasis on Legiones vs Imperial Army outside of Tallarn.

My assumption there is 'Self Propelled' so a self propelled superweapon would be things similar to the Ordinatus I guess.

If this is true I'll be happy I only have one set of the current infantry as unless they are awful models I will massively prefer having MK3 than MK6

I've got a box of Mark VI that I picked up speculatively, to be mixed in with future armour marks to give a more varied, 'Shattered Legion' look. They've gathered quite a bit of dust, so I hope we do get different armour marks/weapons at some point.

The supposed inclusion of melta guns and lascannons is worth discussing, I think. If the lascannon models are similar to the missile launchers, the weapon arms will be interchangable, allowing for futher variety.

Lots of 3in melta stands could be fun, too!

I don't think much of the rumours

For one, the only thing that checks out is the plastic knights, but those were previewed like 3 days before this was posted anyway, and its a trajectory that seems pretty obvious given fw has apparently pulled down the resin ones and its fair to assume we'll see all knight kits in plastic in time.

Molech as a setting has already been done for AT, and was used to introduce knights into AT, I don't think it makes much sense for LI.

In a GW video last year where they briefly discussed the tallarn book before its release, they mentioned I believe it represented just the opening salvoes of the battle for tallarn. A part 2 to that would make more sense to finally introduce legion super heavies to the game, molech seems like an odd choice for that.

The biggest missing in action units/detachments are legion artillery and solar aux light armour, both are the sole remaining things from the rulebook's formations that literally cannot be taken currently. 14-15 months later, so I fee like until we see either of those its all just speculation.
