Sume
Hello everyone, Long time member of the forum here. I play mostly Sisters of Battle since 3rd edition. Have a little stint with Slaanesh demons. A friend of mine decided that he wanted to go to a bunch of the narrative events after we tried LVO. Which was a blast. He managed to get a few armies so we can change things up. If something gets a nerf hammer so bad like Sisters. Anyway, between stuff I have been gathering for a while in the attempts to eventually make a Emperors Children army. My friend got me everything I needed to start, as a gift for painting a bunch of his armies. We got the box set after checking a few shops. Decided to go with a more Horus Heresy Era for vehicles. Picked up a box of mark 6 tactical beakers that I planned to use as a kitbash with the box set. I also have a resin noise marine and sonic weapon kit upgrade. That I figured I should be able to fangle a third set of noise marines out of. Also, possibly one of the noise marine lords. I also have a resin Lucis that I thought would work well also for a noise marine lord. While I know the codex is very new. I thought I would share as I get started. As I am hoping to take this to the narrative event in Texas for May, I got the following to work with. 1 Helldrake, 3 rhinos, 1 landraider, 2 maulerfiends, entire contents of the box set, 2 sorcerers, the resin upgrade kits, 1 box of terniantors and all of my painted Slaanesh demons. I am planning to use the Carnival of Excess as it will help me speed things up for painting. Still in the basic list stage building as I am hoping an army builder updates soon so I can just play around with the points digitally. I have to say at initial glance I am not impressed at all by the terminators data slate. Nothing screams to me that they are an actual threat. Thank you all. Dr_Ruminahui
Welcome to the EC! We are all trying to figure out what works in this new post-codex world, so I look forward to hearing your own thoughts. That seems a pretty decent start to an army, and is actually pretty similar to what I have to start mine. Some thoughts of my own: 1. I agree with your take on terminators - they just don't seem to have enough there for their point cost. I think they are probably weakest in Carnival, as I see their main value in EC is deepstriking, while with Carnival you have far cheaper options (aka demonettes) that can do that. 2. Our sorcerers are pretty bad - sorcerers are pretty lack luster in CSM and ours are worse as they lose the -1 to hit for beneftis from cover, a huge downgrade (and their shooting rider is worse as well). Plus, for tormentors and infractors, they turn off their scout/infiltrate. There is an argument for putting them in noise marines, but, to me, not a very good one. So, I would look to easing them out of your lists when you are able to do so. 3. New Lucius is much bigger than old Lucius and (to me) a much nicer model. I would consider fielding your resin Lucius as a Exultant Lord with sword and whip, and at least plan on sliding him into that position if you ever get the modern model. Sume
I was actually considering converting my resin Lucius into a the Noise marine lord. Also, I think I left my two sonic upgrade kits at my friend's place. As I found some orks and thought he would like them. As they were originally his. The orks came back home with me. For now. As we are building 2 ork armies for 40k narrative events anyways. This was more of a springboard having so much Slaanesh demons that I could use something other than a heavily nerfed sisters of battle. Will post up my initial thoughts and takes on an army in the next few days. I am torn on about what I should take for demons though. As I need to see what the package for the 40k narrative will be for this year. I am basing off last years. So 1k points with up to 1500. So, that means I think about 500 points for demons. Narrative wise to me. Sheliaxe is not going to be flying with me. As, I dont feel like a named character should be in a skirmish for narratives. Then it leaves me with do I do a keeper and load up with fiends/demonettes/seekers. That or just go with 2 - 3 squads of demonettes then the rest EC stuff. I should be able to easily kit bash myself a 3rd squad of noise marines from the sonic upgrade kit and the noise marine upgrade sprue. Will see when I get them back. I am hoping to be able to make 2 noise marine lords. The rest of the mark 6 kit will be used to kit bash the box itself. So, if I do everything right and pay attention to trying to make the mark 6 marines the same height. I should boost my model count by 20 or so. My friend does have more mark 6 bodies around from when he kit bashed a bunch of marines for LVO. Will have a healthy amount of bodies for the 2 troop choices. One of my silly initial thoughts is you can actually scout the land raider. Not sure if it is worth it for infractors when a rhino is cheaper, but I saw very a lot of lack of heavy guns. Tell I started to look into things more. Seems this is going to work more like Slaanesh demons did in6 to 8. Fish for crits and just skip the toughness of things, Tallarn Commander 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385519-greetings/#findComment-6100547 Share on other sites
Dr_Ruminahui
Lord Kakaphonist would also work for old Lucius, though you would need to convert him as it LK doesn't have the whip sword option. Was suggesting Lord Exultant as it does, and it actually looks like a decent build for that character.... actually, all of the LE builds actually seem pretty good (except for the 3x pistol lord, which I will be building anyway for the LOLs). Scouts rule only passes to dedicated transports, and a land raider isn't a dedicated transport, so you can't scout it, alas. I know because I had previously looked up the Scout rule (and tha leaked EC landraider datasheet) specifically to answer that question. BTW, there is a really good take on Carnival of Excess here, done by our own @Elazar The Glorified. It might also be worth checking out the EC discussion thread - that's where most of our insights are so far on the EC codex. Sume
Thank you for the feedback. I was not sure about the scouting land raider and I suspected even if you could it would be FAQ'd as a no go fast. Like the idiots arguing that you could rhino congs line disembark rhinos and pop out a corvas blackstar when Imperial Agents first came out. I am thinking the games i played at LVO in Vegas in January is probally not the true meta and stuff. As people tended to ignore the narrative objectives and went after easy to kill units of my sisters than the marines doing the actual damage. All I provided was ablative wounds snd board control. As for list building. I am basing on a 1k crusade list using 3 of the RP for an additional 500 points. Based on last year's narrative event package. Things i want to include are: Lord Exultant with 10 infractors 2 - 3 noise marines 2 mauler fiends 2 - 3 tormentors. Board control and precision being able to snipe support peices out and special weapons. Demonettes Seekers have always worked well for me as a turn one disruptor unit in a larger unit sizes. While less killy then demonettes they've always done well for me. I am not sure about the fiends yet. They seem to have loat what made them great. Keeper of secrets. I am torn. not sure if it is worth half the demons I'll be able to use. Expect i also feel that a keeper hauling across the tsble on turn one or coming out of deep strike has to be dealt with That leave me maybe a full swuad of seekes and a unit of demonettes. Something i will probably go with. As I like target saturation. If there are points the helldrake and maybe the terminators for the same threat possibility as the keeper but then I feel that a land raider as an over costed gunboat be better.
