Deschenus Maximus
Did the rules for the 1st edition of AI differ a lot from the present iteration? I'll be honest I find this iteration to be a bit meh. It feels more like a boardgame than a wargame. I'm curious if 1st ed would be more to my liking. Thanks! apologist
I've not played the second edition, but we did have fun with the first incarnation of Aeronautica. The change to a grid-based movement system probably cleaned things up, but I preferred the visual spectacle and sense of freedom you get with playing on a 'proper' board. It wasn't the greatest game in the world, but I really liked how it played. If you've played the X-Wing game, it's got some similarities. Perhaps the key advantage to it over the 2nd edition, now that both are OOP, is that the entire 1st edition ruleset is combined in just two big books, and so a lot easier to gather and reference. apologist
Doubtless there'll be a dubious PDF version available somewhere, but if you want a print book, I think auction sites or trading groups are your best bet. As of today, there are a few copies of the main rulebook (Aeronautica Imperialis) available on eBay for 'buy it now' prices around £45. The supplement (Tactica Aeronautica) is trickier to find. There's one on eBay for £60 +p&p; and one here for £45 https://www.nicksstock.co.uk/?product=tactica-aeronautica-aerial-combat-in-the-41st-millennium-2006 Deschenus Maximus 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385527-1st-ed-ai/#findComment-6100808 Share on other sites
