Is infantry only army viable

So i love left field armies.

With games being won or lost on objectives, would an all infantry force be viable?

Anti tank would be probelmatic sure.

I was thinking Ventris for deep striking a large unit of hellblasters. run him with bladeguard?

Max eradicator (3x3)

max bodies, so 5 squads of intercessors and 2 assault intercessors?

would we need infiltrators to get to objectives early?

There are some serious hard counters but yeah it could work in some match ups. Just thinking about who I normally face and my own forces. Nidzilla would roast you and would love you to jump on the objectives early, just means they get that much closer faster. Not sure how my marine anti-Nidzilla list would do if I ran into it, its a lot of vehicles with some big guns but they are big low volume shots. I think my NL chaos force which is slightly more balanced would do better. My IG would really depend on the force I brought, I have too many of those including my own all infantry force. My main IW list would have a field day. But my lists are skewed in a certain direction due to one of my regular opponents whom I have to tailor against which means I will annihilate certain lists but am very weak vs others. I dont bring much melee as its almost pointless until the end for a final punch to take an objective.

Firestorm is good but half of the stratagems revolve around the use of Transports so you may find that you are not "playing with a full deck" when it comes to strats.

Take a look at the Goonhammer reviews as there are quite often infantry-only SM lists that do well there. The ones I seem most often are Vanguard or Liberator Assault Group as these have the most goodies targeted at infantry.

thats true, skew lists always have a hard counter.

i was thinking of firestorm detachment for +1S firing at close range. Might help vs monsters a bit, anything T8/9 is 5s instead of 6s to wound?

The main issue is that Firestorm requires transports for half the strats and almost locks you into using Salamanders/Vulkan.

You'd have more luck with Gladius or Vanguard, but if you want to go outside thr codex you can do three good Blood Angels detachments (the Death Company one is legit trash).

You'll need to keep in mind that certain armies can teleport and basically delete your infantry with zero issues. Eldar is a primary problem here with the Warp Spiders + Phoenix Lord or Dire Avengers + Phoenix Lord. Other armies will just thank you like most Custodes lists.

Vanguard would likely be the best out of the main books with its inherent -1 to hit and getting cover plus a lot of decent infantry strats. Against bugs I use it with my armored force just to try and blunt the insane firepower coming my way.
